After 15 years since Enchanted premiered, Disney produced the sequel: Disenchanted. This movie is finally available for streaming on Disney+, and fans of this movie now get to see Giselle not as the stereotypical princess, but as the evil stepmother.

Like the first film, Disenchanted does a great job deconstructing the fairytale tradition. This allows for plenty of metatextual commentaries, hilarious jokes, and interesting emotional moments. This makes for some of the most remarkable quotes from Disney films.
10 “You Just Get Married Then Nothing Ever Happens To You Again.”
One Of Pip’s Children When He Tells Them There’s More To Giselle’s Story
The movie begins with Pip telling his children the story of Giselle in New York. However, when the children ask him to tell it again, he says that he can do them better and tell them the story of Giselle after her "happy ever after." Still, the children don't believe there's something beyond it.
Fairytales are known for finishing when the princess gets to marry the princess, and then, "they live happily ever after." This first very metatextual joke sets the tone for the movie, in which Giselle discovers that in the real world, there are still many things that can happen after getting married.
9 “Please, We Really Don’t Need To… Sing.”
Morgan When Nancy Breaks Into Song
Just like in Enchanted, Disenchanted doesn't shy away from making fun of Giselle's weird fairytale habits. This leads to some really hilarious moments in the film, especially taking into account that Morgan is going through a very skeptical phase.
As Giselle is one of the best Disney mothers, Giselle breaks into song to explain to Morgan how they could build a happy life in their new home. However, Morgan isn't as happy to receive a musical number out of nowhere. Unfortunately, she has to deal with this issue often in the film.
8 “She Sometimes Says One Thing And Means The Opposite. I Can Never Tell.”
Giselle About Morgan’s Sarcasm
While Giselle and Morgan build a wholesome relationship in Enchanted, they encounter a bit more tension when Morgan reaches teenagehood in Disenchanted. In the first movie, Morgan is simply happy to live with a fairytale princess, but in the sequel, she doesn't find it as amusing anymore.
Morgan's cynical and broody side contrasts sharply with Giselle's optimism and upbeat attitude, which leads to some very humorous moments in the film. This is especially true when Giselle has difficulty understanding specific real-life social cues, like sarcasm.
7 “Happily Ever After Is More Of A Concept Here Than It Actually Is A Thing.”
Nancy Talking To Giselle
When Giselle notices that her life on this plane of reality isn't as easy as she thought it would be, she starts questioning her adequacy for this life. However, Nancy reassures her and tells her that the fairytale ending isn't common in this reality.

This is one of the most interesting quotes in the movie because it addresses years of Disney creating an impossible standard for relationships. In real life, it isn't as simple as finding the one true love and getting the happy ever after.
6 “Sometimes You Just Have To Take A Leap.”
Robert Cheering Giselle Up About Moving To Monroeville
At the beginning of the movie, Giselle has a hard time reconciling her desire to move to the suburbs because Morgan is so against it. She's unsure if this is the right decision because she doesn't want their family to be unhappy in the new place.
However, Robert shows to be an amazing father and husband, and supports his wife through this transition. This quote is a nice life lesson and a cute wink to the previous movie, where Giselle falls into Robert's arms after losing her balance on top of a Billboard.
5 “You’re Riding This Train Over And Over, And Over And Over, And Over And Over, And Over And Over, And Then, You Die.”
The Lady In The Train To Robert
Once Giselle, Robert, and Morgan move to Monroeville, Robert has to commute to his work in New York. This means that the lawyer must spend a tremendous amount of time riding the train. In one of his travels, he encounters a lady with a very pessimist approach to this sort of life.
Anyone who has had to spend a lot of time transporting to their job understands how frustrating it can be to waste a lot of time coming and going. This joke may be a bit too dark for a Disney movie, but it's also incredibly relatable.
4 “Oh, no. No, no, no. Stepmothers Never Handle This Well.”
Giselle When She Sees Morgan And Tyler
As everyone knows, stepmothers are usually the villains of Disney's stories, and Giselle happens to be Morgan's stepmother. When Giselle wishes for the real world to be fairytale-like, she has to confront the fact that she will become the villain.
Seeing sweet, optimistic, and generous Giselle turning into a cynical, ambitious, evil mother is one of the best aspects of the movie. When Giselle encounters Morgan and Tyler flirting, she's aware of the fairytale tradition and knows this could be the event to put her definitely on the dark path. These sorts of metatextual jokes are always appreciated.
3 “Mirror, Mirror In her Hand, Who Is The Most Blatantly Insecure Woman?"
Evil Giselle Mocking Malvina
When Giselle, already fully turned into an evil stepmother, confronts Malvina, she finds the queen looking at herself in the mirror. Giselle mocks her by saying, “mirror, mirror in her hand, who is the most blatantly insecure woman whose constant need to ask her reflection for validation suggests that what she really needs to do is to love herself... in all the land?”
This is probably one of the funniest moments in the movie. Giselle not only mocks Malvina as a character, but she also makes fun of the emblematic quote from Snow White. On top of that, Amy Adams's performance as the evil stepmother is one of the best in Disney.
2 “Never Fear! We Will Come Up With Something Very Smart At The Very Last Minute To Solve All Our Problems!”
Prince Edward When They See Giselle’s Memories Tree Is Dying
Despite being a fairytale, Disenchanted constantly makes fun of the fairytale tradition. When Morgan arrives in Andalasia, she discovers that Giselle's memory tree is dying. Prince Edward's response to this is this incredibly funny and metatextual quote.

The most hilarious part of this comment is that even though Nancy reprimands Edwards for his lack of common sense, Edward's prediction turns out to be true. Only a couple of seconds later, they figure out that Morgan can bring the tree back to life with her magic.
1 “You’re A True Daughter Of Andalasia Because You’re My Daughter, Morgan.”
Giselle Encouraging Morgan To Save The World
At the end of the movie, since Giselle is dying, Morgan is the one who has to undo the wish so that she can save not only this world but also Andalasia. However, since the wand can only be used by a daughter or son of Andalasia, Morgan feels insecure.
Giselle then reassures Morgan that she's a daughter of Andalasia because she's her daughter. The core of the film is the relationship between Morgan and Giselle, and this quote erases the convention of the stepmother and addresses the fact that daughters and stepmothers can also have a real connection.
