A decade ago, the anime and manga landscape was dominated by three shonen series, and Naruto was one of them. Fans fell in love with Naruto because it told a great story about friendship and determination, and it helped that it also featured a great deal of action. The majority of the battles were between ninja, and most of them were highly skilled individuals who could use a variety of jutsu.

Hashirama Senju, better known as the 1st Hokage, possessed immense chakra reserves, and he was able to use Wood Release, which allowed him to take on Tailed Beasts. Hashirama is regarded as one of the strongest ninja in history, and only a handful of ninja are strong enough to actually fight him. An even smaller number would be able to beat him in his prime.
10 Shisui Can Control Minds With Kotoamatsukami
Shisui was considered the most skilled Uchiha of his era, having mastered the Body Flicker Technique to the point that he left behind no trace of his presence. He awakened his Sharingan at a young age, and his Mangekyo followed soon after.
Thanks to his Mangekyo Sharingan, Shisui gained Kotoamatsukami, a very powerful and dangerous jutsu. With this genjutsu, Shisui can enter his target's mind and make them do things, and the target will believe they are performing these actions out of their own free will. Even the great Hashirama would fall victim to this level of mind control.
9 In His Prime, The 3rd Hokage Was Stringer Than Hashirama
The 3rd Hokage was a disciple of the 1st and 2nd, and he was considered to be a true prodigy. He lost a large amount of his strength due to old age, but he was still able to fight Orochimaru as well as the reanimated versions of his two predecessors.

In his prime, the 3rd Hokage was hailed as a "God of Shinobi," which is a title that Hashirama also held. He was recognized as the strongest Kage of his era, and up until that point, he was the most powerful Hokage in history. If he and Hashirama met in combat while both in their primes, he would come out the victor.
8 Deidara's Explosion Release Would Decimate Hashirama's Wood Release
Deidara was the Akatsuki's explosives expert, which is fitting since he possessed the Explosion Release kekkei genkai. He used this rare nature transformation to infuse his explosive chakra into clay, which he could animate and detonate at any time.
Hashirama's Wood Release may be durable, but it cannot withstand a barrage of explosions. Deidara's C3 can wipe out an entire village, and his C4 releases thousands of microscopic bombs that disintegrate the target once they enter their bloodstream. Hashirama cannot survive such attacks, and he cannot withstand C0 either, which obliterates everything within a 6-mile radius.
7 Pain's Rinnegan Is Stronger Than Wood Release
Pain received the Rinnegan from Madara, and he mastered its godly powers. It would be very difficult for Hashirama to fight the Six-Paths of Pain because they all share the same field of vision. The Deva Path would be very difficult to fight because it can repel and destroy Hashirama's Wood Release.
Pain can create mechanical weapons to destroy the Wood Release with missiles, or he can absorb the ninjutsu with the Preta Path. The Human path can extract Hashirama's soul, and if he did manage to take out a body, Pain can use the Naraka Path to fully heal it.
6 Mu Can Erase Hashirama With His Dust Release
Mu was the 2nd Tsuchikage, and he possessed an ability that completely masked his chakra signature and physical form. If Mu were in his split form, he would not stand a chance against Hashirama, and that is because he would not be able to use Dust Release.

This extremely rare nature transformation allowed Mu to create three-dimensional shapes that he could fire at his enemies. These objects move very fast, and once they expand, they disintegrate anything caught inside. Even Hashirama in his prime had no way to counter disintegration.
5 The 3rd Raikage Is The Strongest Ninja In The Cloud Village's History
The 3rd Raikage is considered to be the strongest ninja in the Cloud Village's history, and for good reason. He possessed superhuman physical abilities, which were all amplified when he used Lightning Release Chakra Mode. This mode would coat his body in a layer of Lightning chakra.
Thanks to Lightning Release Chakra Mode, the 3rd Raikage was strong enough to fight a fully released 8-Tails by himself, and he took on an army of 10,000 shinobi singlehandedly. Even if prime Hashirama went all out, the 3rd Raikage would tear through his Wood Release as though it were paper.
4 Guy Almost Defeated Madara When He Was The 10-Tails' Jinchuriki
When someone unlocks all 8 Inner Gates, they briefly obtain power that is greater than the 5 Kage combined, and Might Guy opened each Gate when he fought Madara during the Fourth Great Ninja War. Under normal circ*mstances, Guy and Hashirama would be somewhat equal in taijutsu, but Hashirama would not stand a chance if Guy went all out.
Guy nearly killed Madara during their fight, and Madara was the 10-Tails' Jinchuriki at the time, which meant that he was basically a God. Even prime Hashirama could not beat this version of Madara.
3 Obito's Intangibility Is Too Overpowered
Hashirama faced many Uchiha over the years, but none of them possessed an ability as overpowered as Obito's Kamui. Obito obtained this special space-time ninjutsu when he awakened his Mangekyo Sharingan, and it gave him access to his own dimension.
Obito could transport his own body parts to this dimension during combat, which gave him a form of intangibility. This means that all of Hashirama's jutsu and physical attacks would simply phase through him. Obito could also suck Hashirama into his Dimension, trapping him there.
2 Kaguya Was Basically A God Who Could Disintegrate Enemies With Her Bones
Kaguya was a powerful member of the Otsutsuki Clan, and she was the first person to wield chakra as a weapon on Earth. She was considered to be a god, which is understandable, seeing as she could move through dimensions, and she possessed the Byakugan and Rinne Sharingan.

In truth, Kaguya could defeat Hashirama by simply sending him to another dimension that he could not escape from, but she could also use her All-Killing Ash Bones technique to fire bones like high-speed projectiles. If they were to hit Hashirama, his entire body would turn to ash.
1 Itachi's Susanoo Is Stronger Than Madara's
Hashirama faced off against Madara's Susanoo more than once, and he was victorious, but he would never be able to beat Itachi's Susanoo. Itachi is one of the strongest Uchiha in history, and when he used his Susanoo, he was considered invincible because it was equipped with the Yata Mirror and Totsuka Blade.
The Yata Mirror can reflect any attack, which makes all of Hashirama's offensive jutsu useless. The Totsuka Blade is a spiritual blade that can cut through just about anything, and if it pierces someone, they are sealed in a genjutsu-like world for eternity.
