New Jersey topped a U.S. News & World Report ranking of the richest states in the U.S.
The ranking, published in November, used theU.S. Census Bureau's American Community Surveyestimates from 2022 to identify states with the highest median household income. Below are the richest states in America based on this income.
As of March 2024, California was the U.S. state with most billionaires, with 197 billionaires calling the state home. New York was second, with 139 resident billionaires.
Overall, in the calendar year 2024, the United States' Nominal GDP at Current Prices totaled at $28.269 trillion, as compared to $25.744 trillion in 2022. The three U.S. states with the highest GDPs were California ($3.987 trillion), Texas ($2.664 trillion), and New York ($2.226 trillion).

The states with the highest median household income are Maryland, New Jersey, and Massachusetts. The states with the lowest median household income are Mississippi, West Virginia, and Arkansas.
