How to eat healthy during the Super Bowl
Super Bowl parties are exciting and a lot of fun, but the traditional foods served that are loaded with fat and cholesterol can leave you feeling not so great.
It really doesn’t have to be that way. Every year, my husband attends a Super Bowl party with a lot of his friends and everyone brings lots of food. Things like chicken wings, pepperoni pizza, and who knows what else.
When we switched to a healthier diet back in 2013, I began making lower-fat snacks for him to take like Crockpot Vegan Chili and BBQ Cauliflower Wings. Though he was a little concerned that the guys were going to give him a hard time, he was really surprised when they tried and liked the food.
The craziest thing was that they liked it so much, his healthy game day food has become an annual request from them. I am SERIOUS!

Plan your Super Bowl food ideas
Food is a huge deal during the Super Bowl whether you’re hosting an event at your house or headed out to friends to celebrate and watch the game. Some gatherings are simple with only finger foods, while others are basically a whole meal. If you are the planner for this year’s event, these are some things to consider.
- Appetizers- Game days usually mean lots of finger-foods. If you have a good size island or table, that is a great place to lay out your spread. A nice variety of appetizers usually means there’s plenty for everyone to find something. Some popular healthy options include veggie trays with hummus and low-fat dips, fruit trays, and some of the amazing finger food recipes in the list below.
- Main Dishes- Some party hosts like to go all out and make chili, taco bars, veggie kabobs, or veggie burgers.
- Make Ahead Recipes- Keeping is simple is all about planning, so make some of those recipes ahead of time. Dishes like hummus and dips are perfect for that. Even chop up the veggies for trays and charcuterie boards.
