During our current digital age, we are fortunate to have a large number of DIY platforms at our fingertips. One very popular platform is Canva. I particularly enjoy using Canva because it’s a free online graphic and design tool that allows its users to create beautiful content on the fly. Don’t get me wrong, as a marketing agency, Canva is our go-to source.
The beauty of this platform is that anybody can use it. With its user-friendly tools and numerous professional ready-made templates, users have a wide array of choices. You can create things such as flyers, posters, and social media graphics using Canva. It has been a valued part of our branding and marketing as an agency. Although you can create many designs using this amazing platform, there is one design that I would not use Canva for. This design is your logo.

4 Reasons Why You Should Not Use Canva for Your Logo Design:
Canva can limit your creativity.
Using Canva for your brand restricts your creative ability. This platform may have an array of free shapes, lines, and paid icons, but it does not provide the utmost freedom when it comes to expressing your creativity. There are better tools like Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop that can take your logo design to the next level.
You cannot create a vector file in Canva.
When creating your logo, you need to make sure you have access to a vector file. This file format provides the code for an outlined shape that you can use to resize the logo using software like adobe illustrator. Making your logo in Canva will not turn out a vectorized image. This means that there will be limitations when trying to edit or modify your logo.
Canva logo with no uniqueness.
Canva is template-based. I enjoy using Canva because of the access to the thousands of templates that come with my account. The downside of this is that I am sharing these templates with 4 million other Canva users. Now you do the math. If you decide to use Canva to design your logo, it won’t necessarily be unique to you alone. There will be other people establishing brands with a logo that looks, if not exactly like yours, then pretty darn close.
Legality issues.
The most important reason why I would not use Canva in order to design a logo is due to the legal issues associated with this decision. This decision should take into account intellectual property rights and Canva’s own licensing agreement. Whether you have just started your business or are several years in, you need to take the steps to trademark your brand and establish ownership of it. However, using Canva for your logo won’t give you a legal right to own it. Canva will own your logo. In fact, Canva’s licensing agreement states that you are not allowed to use their key elements or features to create your logo. While Canva is a great way to save time and money when creating content for your business, this is not a good source that I would use to create something as important as a logo.
