Can’t find motivation? These 5 reasons will convince you to say YES to productivity
Being productive basically means increasing your personal efficiency. Sounds great, right? I find that productivity is often seen as an obligation rather than something that can benefit and improve us long-term. I challenge you to consider – and I mean really consider – why “productive” is more than something we simply should be.
Productivity gives you a sense of purpose.
Being productive helps you feel more purposeful in life. If everything you do has a reason and is aligned with a goal, you’ll feel rewarded in all you do. Being productive leaves you with a strong sense of accomplishment, making each task worthwhile.
Productivity puts you in a good mood.
Have you ever finished a really important, time-consuming task and felt a massive sense of relief afterwards? Even though not every task you accomplish is necessarily “huge,” being productive provides you with that continuous sense of relief, one achievement at a time. Even though there will always be more things on your to-do list, you have the peace of mind of knowing that you’re constantly knocking things off your list, allowing you to feel less stressed.
Productivity motivates others in your workplace.
Think back to your days as a school kid. Did you ever have a teacher separate you from your friend because you would talk instead of focusing on your school work? The same concept applies in the work world. If you are unproductive and distracted, you influence those around you to adopt the same habits. However, if you aim to be more productive, you will be contributing to a much more focused, positive, and motivated work environment. Your coworkers will thank you!
Productivity increases the amount of time you have in a day.
I know you can’t actually give yourself more time in a day but making better use of it will give you the ability to make room for other things. It might look like spending an extra half hour with your kids, cooking a nicer meal than you would have, or crawling into bed 20 minutes early; the way you choose to spend your extra time is up to you, and that’s the best part! This is time you gained back by being productive, that you can spend however you choose.
If you make productivity a habit, it produces a comforting sense of routine.
While some people need more structure than others, we all love consistency. We live and breathe routine. Think about it: we always wake up in the morning and go to sleep at night, we eat dinner every day around the same time, we go to work or school for the same amount of time every week…. These things are all part of our lifestyle. If you make productivity part of your lifestyle, it will eventually become a habit you fall into. Productivity is responsible for the goals you achieve, the progress you make, and the time you save. Frankly, I don’t see a reason not to make productivity a habit!
