There’s a major misconception most people have about wealth in our society. And if you’ve been trying (and failing) to reach the success you deserve, this belief might actually be the one thing holding you back.
And that’s the idea that rich people are selfish and greedy.
That they’re only out to help themselves and their family. Or that one person becoming rich means you’re taking away money from another person.
The truth is…. There’s nothing wrong with being wealthy.
Being wealthy just makes you more of who you really are. And in most case, it means genuinely wanting to make a difference in the quality of people’s’ lives.

1. Donating to Charity or Supporting a Cause
This should be a no-brainer, right? When you’re rich, you have more money to donate to important causes. However, this is about more than just about throwing money at a problem or a cause you care about. It’s also about using your influence to help others care about the causes that matter most to you.
You know Bill Gates, right? Co-founder of Microsoft, now a retired billionaire? It may surprise you to hear that he once said, “The general idea of the rich helping the poor, I think, is important.”
Yes, that’s right. One of the richest men in the world has gone on the record saying that the rich have a moral obligation to help out the less fortunate. And he’s not alone. Sure, there are always going to people who feel insecure about their money and want to hoard it — but Bill Gates’ attitude is more common than you might think.
In fact, most rich people want to use their money to help others. They know that just letting the money pile up in their bank account isn’t the end goal — instead, it’s how they will use their money to help others that matters. With this in mind, you should donate your money and use your influence to inspire others to care about the causes that matter most to you.
2. Venturing in Social Entrepreneurship
Donating to charity isn’t the only way you can “pay it forward” when you’re rich. I’m sure you’ve heard plenty ofrags to riches stories, exemplified by people like Oprah Winfrey, Starbucks’ Howard Schultz, and Ralph Lauren. These are the people who came from nothing and worked their way to the top. Consequently, because of their life experiences, they really believe they have a duty to help others.
These people should remind you that once you have enough to be comfortable, you can set aside profit-driven business goals and invest in social entrepreneurship.
What does that mean? At its heart, it’s about doing business for a social cause. Instead of using profits to measure success, you look at how much youhelped improve the worldthrough your business or career.
As an example, let’s take a look at the One for One campaign from TOMS. Through this campaign, when you buy a pair of shoes from TOMS, the company will, in turn, give a pair to the needy.
I know what you’re thinking: if I have plenty of money to spare when I’m rich, why not just give a pair of shoes to the poor without having a customer purchase one first?
The answer is simple. You need to continue making more money in order to have more money to help others. Additionally, if you can do that while tackling social issues, I don’t think anyone will complain.
3. Offering Jobs & Opportunities
However, using your wealth to do good is not always about giving away free shoes or donating to charitable causes. Being rich means you can also help those struggling by presenting them with opportunities for success.
How? Well, when you’re rich, and you want to make more money, there are two ways to do it: through investments or new business ventures.
Regardless of which method you choose, you’re funding a new business. Consequently, when new businesses pop up, they automatically create more jobs and opportunities for people. If it’s a local business, this directly lifts up the community and contributes to the economy.
This shows that not only can you help tackle social issues while running a business, you can also directly empower those who help run the business and those who are connected with it. This strategy provides a win-win situation for everyone.
4. Funding Research & Studies
Spider Man (one of my favorite superheroes) once said, “With great power comes great responsibility,” and I couldn’t agree more.
More often than not, the more money you have, the more powerful you are.
Now, some people think of “power” as a negative thing — as in the power to control. However, I prefer to focus on the power to do more.
Take for example our current health crises. Why don’t we have cures yet for epidemics like cancer, HIV, autism, or other serious health issues? It’s not because we don’t have enough brilliant scientists and researchers in the world! As a matter of fact, we even have the technology. We also have the wherewithal! What’s lacking is the money to fund tests and experiments. After all, science is extremely expensive. This is why more and richer people are helping fund these studies.
Again, the point I’m driving at here is thatwhen you have more money, you also have more means for helping out in different ways.
5. Sharing Testimonies
For my last point today, I want to set money aside and focus on something that many of us take for granted. But before I talk about it, I’d like for you to cast your doubts and negative thoughts aside.
We all have an important role in the world. And for rich people, that roleisn’tjust “offering money to anyone who needs it.” When you’re wealthy, there’s something else important that you do for the people around you…
And that’s to provide living proof that if you work hard in life, you’ll eventually get what you want!
And when you do, you have a multitude of options to do what you want with your money. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
I’ve often said that the best way to become rich is to study, model and learn from other successful andrich people. Not at the amount of money in their bank account, but their experiences, their stories,mindsetand especially their habits. See what they do differently in life, and adopt their strategies.
If you really listen, the rich have testimonies that will inspire and motivate every cell in your body to do better for yourself. And once you reach the success you’re looking for, you can do the same!
Choose What’s Right for You
Now, you’ve heard me talk about making money, saving it, and the many ways the wealthy can help others. However, choosing what to do with that money is ultimately your decision. It’s all about free will. You get to choose what you want and what’s right for you.
Not all rich people will take the responsible route. And that’s okay. We just have to accept that everyone is different. But let’s not forget that there are so many wealthy people out there who do their part consistently, and they do help in their own small or big way.
