The Exp. Share is one of the greatest items of the whole Pokémon series. When you give it to a Pokémon, it gets Exp. points from every battle, even if it isn't in battle. It's also sharing the EV's of the battle, So make sure you get one.
Getting the Exp. Share isn't the same way in all of the Pokémon games. This article will show you how to get the Exp Share in just about every game.

1
In Red, Blue, and Yellow, there is no way to get Exp. Share, because Pokémon can't hold items in this generation. In the place of this, there is the Exp. All.
2
Have at least 50 kinds of Pokémon in your Pokédex. Go to the watch tower east of Fuschia City.

Go to the Lake of Rage, where you find a Red Gyarados. It's a good idea to catch this Pokémon, as it can help you later on in the day and is a great addition to your growing team! However, it's absolutely optional.
2
If you catch or defeat it, it will drop a Red Scale. If you give that scale to Mr. Pokémon (the guy who gave you the Togepi-egg) he will want to trade that Red Scale for an Exp. Share.

Tips
It's a good idea to trade the Red Scale in Gold, Silver, or Crystal because it is not very useful for anything else.

You don't have to use the Exp. Share. Sometimes it's also good to train just one Pokémon.

Warnings
If you get the Exp. Share, DO NOT SELL IT! You can only get one Exp. Share in each game. If you toss it or sell it, it will be gone forever.
