Capital One Application Rules
We have a pretty extensive guide on all of the application rules for each major bank that we are constantly updating as things change. One of those banks, Capital One, has had less volatility than some other banks over the years in terms of application rules changes. That was until the last year or so, as things have shifted some here and there. However, team member Rick may have flipped a few things on their head in terms of Capital One application rules with his recent approval for the Venture X Business card. Let's get into it!
Table of Contents
One Card Every Six Months Rule
One of the Capital One application rules that has shown some cracking over the last year is the long held belief that Capital One will only approve you for one card every six months. It didn't matter if they were business cards, personal cards or a mixture of both. If it was within six months since your last approval you would be automatically denied for any other application.
Recently, that seems to have changed some. That is especially true when it comes to the Venture X Business and Spark Cash Plus cards. These seem to play outside of that rule and some other data points have popped up for other cards as well.
This was Rick's data point too. He was last approved for a Capital One card in November of last year and was just approved for the Venture X Business card this morning. That is less than four months since the previous approval, well before the one card every six months rule.
You Can Only Hold One Charge Card At A Time
One of the other Capital One application rules that I haven't seen a data point go against is that you can only carry one charge card. The two charge cards that Capital One offers are the Venture X Business and Spark Cash Plus cards. These cards come with no preset spending limit.
It has long been believed that you could only hold one or the other. This is a rule that was confirmed for me by a Capital One banker that also plays in the miles and points sandbox and knows what they are talking about. Rick decided to test that theory today and be the data point he wanted to be.
The card he grabbed back in November was the Spark Cash Plus and he was still approved for the Venture X Business card today. That is getting approved for both charge cards, and within 6 months of each other to boot!
Capital One Application Rules: ToP Thoughts
This data point is extra timely because of the huge offers both of these cards offer right now. It has been thought that if you had one, you could not apply for the other. That may not be the case though. One data point does not confirm a Capital One application rules change though. We need some more data points to confirm this. So please be sure to share your experience over in the ToP Facebook Group should you be approved for one of these cards while holding the other. This could potentially mean huge points for people that thought they had no chance if it bears more fruit.
