Add or remove trusted phone numbers on Mac (1)

A trusted phone number is the phone number used to verify your identity when you sign in on a different device or browser.

You must verify at least one trusted phone number when you enroll in two-factor authentication. You should also consider verifying other phone numbers you can access, such as a home phone or a number used by a family member or close friend.

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu Add or remove trusted phone numbers on Mac (2)> System Settings, then click [your name] at the top of the sidebar.

If you don’t see your name, click “Sign in with your Apple ID,” enter your Apple ID (or another email address or phone number on file), then enter your password. If you don’t have an Apple ID, you can create one.

Open Apple ID settings for me

  2. Click Sign-In & Security, then click Two-Factor Authentication.

  3. Go to Trusted Phone Number, then do any of the following:

    • Add a phone number: Click the Add button Add or remove trusted phone numbers on Mac (3) below Trusted Phone Numbers. If prompted, enter your Apple ID password or Mac login password. Choose the country code, enter a phone number that can be used to verify your identity, select whether you want to be reached by text or phone call, then click Next. Enter the code sent to the phone number and click Next. Your trusted phone numbers appear in a list.

    • Remove a phone number: Select a phone number, click the Remove button Add or remove trusted phone numbers on Mac (4), then click Remove.

Note: You must have at least one trusted phone number when you use two-factor authentication. If you only have a single trusted phone number, it can’t be removed.

You can also manage your trusted devices and phone numbers by signing in to your AppleID account page.
