@swordc-43wrote:Ok, so I lowballed an item. Hey it has that option, and it is a standard practise in auctions/bargain stores/garage sale vendors to start low. I was expecting that we negotiate and meet in the middle, or seller can just stay firm with full price and I would have either bought it or moved on with their other items. That's what I've been doing since forever from the past sellers I've dealth with and never had issues. Now I decided to instead buy another of their listing, no Offer button, so I'll pay full price since I really liked it. I prefer it over the first item that I lowballed. After clicking Buy, it says "the seller isn't accepting bids or offers from you". Pretty disappointed and if I was blocked, very unprofessional. Seller also doesn't respond to my messages.
This is the first time this happened. I've been buying on eBay since forever, I pay fast, and I've lowballed some but the seller communicated well on what they want. I either moved on, met them in the middle, or payed full for some items I really want. What's even the point of putting that option if the seller is not willing to negotiate or even atleast communicate and say "hey this is full price or hey ahole I can only give you 10% discount"? But that is assuming I was blocked by seller or is just a technical issue on eBay.
Now you know what the drawbacks are, of making a [potentially] insulting lowball offer.
Now you need to man up, grow up, whatever-your-preferred-phrase is, and recognize that you have been insulting, and now you are experiencing the consequences. Tough luck. Or tough love. However you want to look at it, you get to live with it.
Personally, I have not experienced this. When I make offers, I always make an effort to figure out, if I can, how much of a discount the seller might be willing to consider, and submit an offer that I believe the seller will be willing to consider. It has not always been accepted, but if I get a counter offer, then we can go from there. I have not made your mistake, so far at least. I have not been blocked.
In the last few years, I was in eBay's Beta test for requiring buyers to preauthorize payment when they make an offer. eBay has never and will never have permission to record or charge my credit card (as a buyer or a seller), so this meant that I was not able to submit any offers. My workaround, was to send the seller a message, telling them I was interested, and asking them to send me an offer if they were willing to accept less. Every time, IIRC, the seller sent me an offer, and I accepted the seller's offer and paid immediately. My buying account is not in this Beta program anymore, but I have found this a very effective way to make purchases.
