As we (and our loved ones) get older, one thing we can look forward to is a good senior discount. Select stores and brands will offer discounts of about 5% to 15% for shoppers aged 65 and older.
I love shopping on Amazon, so I dug into whether or not an Amazon senior discount exists. Spoiler alert: there isn’t one (officially, at least).
However, there are ways some seniors can save up to 50% on the cost of their Amazon Prime membership or even receive special benefits. For example, those on Medicaid or receiving SNAP benefits will only have to pay $6.99 a month for Prime benefits (versus $14.99 a month).

1. On Medicaid? Get an Amazon Prime membership for only $6.99 per month.
While there is no official Amazon Prime senior discount, Amazon has a discounted membership called Prime Access. With Prime Access, you’d only have to pay $6.99 a month versus the regular $14.99 a month. You can qualify for the program if you’re on Medicaid or any other qualifying government assistance program.

Enter your EBT number and state it was issued.
Upload a photo of your eligibility card or eligibility letter.

2. Use your SNAP card to shop for food on Amazon.
Again, this isn’t technically an Amazon Prime senior discount, but it’s worth mentioning if you receive SNAP benefits (formerly known as food stamps).
After 2020, you could start using your SNAP benefits online, including on Amazon. I’m talking fruit, vegetables, meat, poultry, fish, and dairy products. This also includes bread, cereals, canned vegetables, and other pantry items. Anything you might be able to get at your local grocery store with your SNAP card is probably fair game with Amazon grocery shopping too. Just look for the “SNAP EBT Eligible” label when you’re shopping.

3. Try Amazon Prime free for 30 days before you pay a dime.
Of course, this applies to anyone signing up for Prime for the first time, including seniors. You can use it for 30 days and cancel before your trial is over to see if you use it enough to justify the cost.

4. Is there an Amazon Prime AARP discount?
Unfortunately, no. Amazon offers the Prime Access discount for anyone on government assistance, along with an Amazon Student Discount, but no specific AARP discount.
