What happens if you cancel a flight booked with AmEx points? ›

Can I cancel a trip that I booked using Membership Rewards points? Yes. If you cancel your booking, you will receive a statement credit on your Card account. To have the Membership Rewards points returned to your account, you can contact us at 1-800-AXP-EARN (297-3276).

The maximum benefit amount for Trip Cancellation Insurance is $10,000 per Covered Trip and $20,000 per Eligible Card per 12 consecutive month period. The maximum benefit amount for Trip Interruption Insurance is $10,000 per Covered Trip and $20,000 per Eligible Card per 12 consecutive month period.
