As I’m sure you know by now, turmeric has superioranti-inflammatoryeffectsand trulyamazing Alzheimer-prevention powers. I have also personally realized turmeric is also a painkiller and natural mood elevator of the first order!
Turmericis truly unique in its exceptionally high margin of safety versus the drugs it has been compared with, such ashydrocortisone, ibuprofen, chemotherapy agents, and more.

My husband (68) calls this bulk mix his “concoction”! He has felt SO much better since I started him taking turmeric (with black pepper) that he has really taken off and become proactive about it – even creating his own similar Mexican Hot Cocoa Blend for his morning coffee …for about 2.5 years to date.
I felt it was about time I do a separate post on the bulk mix recipe because so many have asked me how I do this. Making it in bulk saves much time over mixing each drink individually.
Build Your Own Bulk Mix of Turmeric & Spices
I show and list the ingredients we use in our bulk mix but I’m not one to measure exact amounts. Simply create your own special blend!
I am looking for the widest number of health benefits I can incorporate into this superfood tub. Take it once, twice or 3 times a day depending on what you want to accomplish!
If you do not want to make a tub, you can take the capsule (2-3 a day) I take when I am not home or very busy (simply for convenience).
Your tub can be as simple as turmeric and black pepper alone or as complex as many ingredients together!
The dry ingredients (what we do) in descending order from most to least are:
- Turmeric, organic (about 90% of mixture)
- Raw cacao powder (optional – you may not want caffeine if you plan to take it before bedtime)
- Protein powder OR chocolateprotein powder or maca powder (ones I use, optional)
- Cinnamon (we use a LOT for it’s broad medicinal benefits)
- Ginger (another powerful anti-inflammatory which boosts turmeric)
- Collagen (Gelatin) Powder (optional – for hair, nails, and connective tissue for beautiful skin)
- Cayenne (optional) (to boost metabolism, gut health, and add to pain relief)
- Black pepper, fresh (mandatory) (increases absorption of turmeric up to 2000%)
- Himalayan pink salt (add 2-4 rounded tsp. to get a broad range of trace minerals each day)
Note: In my photo below, I used approximately 2 1/2 cups of turmeric and only about 3 slightly rounded teaspoon of fresh ground black pepper.
Turmeric and black pepper are mandatory for this blend. The bulk mix should always consist of 85-90% turmeric.
We now know that the bioavailability, serum levels, and levels of absorption of curcumin all improved dramatically whenbothare present.
One study found that when 2 g. (1 tsp.) of curcumin alone was ingested, serum levels stayed very low. However, when 20 mg. piperine/black pepper (just a little pinch – 1/20th of a teaspoon) was added to curcumin, the bioavailability increased by 2000%! When taken with a bit of fat or oil, itenhances the bioavailability of curcumin another seven to eight-fold.

How to take the Mixture Daily for Pain Relief, Anti-Aging, & Mood Elevation
My husband takes 1 rounded teaspoon of the mixture 2 – 3 times a day when he needs significant pain relief. He is very physically active on the farm, keeping up with things like moving trees, doing heavier projects for me, and beekeeping, etc. which has caused him to ache all over if not for this. People vary in how much they need, so seek for your personal sweet spot.
You can start with 1/2 tsp. and work up to where you are feeling results and less pain!
He adds it to his “Mexican coffee” in the AM or takes it at other times in an inch of water and then chases it with plain water.
He sweetens his morning coffee maple syrup or honey to taste OR stevia drops to taste. He adds a dollop of virgin coconut oil or coconut milk for the fat.
Since 1 LEVEL tsp. of ground turmeric (alone) is ~2,000 mg., I estimate that 1 ROUNDED tsp. of the bulk mix (with other ingredients) is still ~2,000 mg. since the turmeric is 85% or more.
We estimate 3x/d to be about 6,000 mg. a day which is a medicinal dose (as opposed to the amounts taken in food).
According to the traditional medical community, 3,000 mg. is the maximum amount of standardized turmeric curcumin you should take per day, yet multiplestudies used up to 8,000 mg.with NO toxicity.Cancer would be one situation where more would be used. I have written a post on that. Feel free to talk to your doctor.
Note: Turmeric is not recommended for individuals prone to kidney stones.
When eaten with fat (virgin olive or coconut oil or meat drippings) as is done in India, curcumin can be directly absorbed into the bloodstream through the lymphatic system thereby partially bypassing the liver. This enhances the bioavailability of curcumin another seven to eight-fold.
