Cardano will sich mit Proof-of-Stake gegen Bitcoin durchsetzen
Für die Kryptowährung Cardano läuft es aktuell wie geschmiert. Während der Bitcoin etwa nach wie vor wegen seines hohen Stromverbrauchs beim Schürfen in der Kritik steht, kann die nach Marktkapitalisierung aktuell drittgrößte Kryptowährung bei diesem Thema punkten. So stehe der Cyber-Coin, der Cardano Foundation, die hinter dem Netzwerk steht, zufolge, für eine Plattform des Wandels. "Mit einem führenden Team von Ingenieuren hat sich Cardano zum Ziel gesetzt, die Macht von unkontrollierbaren Strukturen an den Rand der Gesellschaft zu verlagern - an den Einzelnen - und eine treibende Kraft für positiven Wandel und Fortschritt zu sein", ist auf der Webseite der Organisation zu lesen. Während beim Bitcoin-Mining etwa das rechenintensive Proof-of-Work-Protokoll zum Einsatz kommt, werden Cardano-Münzen durch das nachhaltigere Proof-of-Stake-Verfahren geschürft - ähnlich wie beim neuen Ether-Upgrade Ethereum 2.0.
Hard Fork führt Smart Contracts ein
Doch damit nicht genug: Wie der Cardano-Entwickler IOHK in einer Videoankündigung Mitte August verriet, steht das nächste große Update kurz vor der Veröffentlichung. Die Hard Fork, die unter dem Projektnamen "Alonzo" entwickelt wird, soll bereits am 1. September in einer Testumgebung veröffentlicht werden, wie Produktmanager Nigel Hemsley in der Videokonferenz mitteilte. Sollte das Testnetz stabil laufen und alle möglichen Fehler rechtzeitig ausgemerzt worden sein, ist die offizielle Einführung des Alonzo-Upgrades dann für den 12. September angedacht. Mit der neuen Hard Fork soll es möglich sein, Smart Contracts auf der Cardano-Chain laufen zu lassen. Damit würde Cardano zu anderen Kryptowährungen wie Ether aufschließen. Mit dem neuen Feature öffnet sich das Netzwerk auch für Anwendungen von Drittanbietern. Mittels der eigens dazu entwickelten Programmiersprache Plutus, die mit dem Alonzo-Upgrade ausgeliefert wird, soll das Erstellen von Smart Contracts außerdem auch Nutzern möglich gemacht werden, die nicht zwangsläufig über einen technischen Hintergrund verfügen, so das Finanzportal The Motley Fool.

Cardano kämpft sich in Top 3 der Kryptowährungen vor
Mit den Neuigkeiten um das Alonzo-Upgrade setzt Cardano seine Kursrally fort. Nachdem der Coin bereits zum Jahreswechsel deutlich zulegte und dann im Mai erstmals über die Marke von 2 US-Dollar sprang, kam es im Juli zu einem kurzen Rücksetzer, als er zeitweise wieder knapp über der 1-US-Dollar-Marke notierte. Seit dann aber Anfang des Monats die Aussicht auf eine baldige Implementierung von Smart Contracts in den Fokus rückte, bewegt sich der Kurs steil aufwärts. Am 23. August erreichte er bei 2,97 US-Dollar ein neues Rekordhoch und tendiert aktuell leicht darunter. Mit einer Marktkapitalisierung von zuletzt etwa 88 Milliarden US-Dollar zog die Internetmünze nun an ihren Konkurrenten Tether und Binance vorbei und ist in die Top 3 der Kryptowährungen aufgestiegen. Zum zweitplatzierten Ether fehlt mit einem Gesamtwert von etwa 378 Milliarden US-Dollar aber noch ein gutes Stück.
Ob der Cardano-Kurs in den nächsten Tagen weiter von den Hoffnungen des Alonzo-Upgrades profitieren kann und was das tatsächliche Release der Hard Fork für den Preisverlauf bedeutet, bleibt abzuwarten. t3n zufolge rechnen Analysten mit einem Kursziel zwischen vier und fünf US-Dollar bis Ende Dezember.
