  • Bicycles or e-bikes newly purchased no more than 6 months from when the insurance policy has started. Coverage only applies to bikes that are used privately and purchased from an official dealer.
  • The bike owner must reside in Germany.
  • Carbon frame bikes (carbon elements only, like fork, are accepted), fully covered bikes, velomobiles, and dirt bikes.
  • Self-built and converted bicycles (bicycles with converted parts with a total value of more than 20% of the purchase price).
  • Commercially used bicycles.
  • Bikes that have to be paid for (bikes from sharing providers).
  • Bikes that were not purchased from an official dealer (cannot be purchased from a private individual).
  • Bicycles subject to registration and insurance requirements.
  • Once you've purchased your policy, it's important to provide certain information. The bike's frame number needs to be on file, and you also need to upload copies of the invoice and receipt from the bike's purchase. Other documents, such as the receipts for the lock or other added accessories, are recommended but not required.
  • In the event that you must submit a claim, you must supply other types of documentation depending on the type of claim.

There are a few requirements that need to be followed to ensure a bike is well protected against theft and that insurance coverage is guaranteed:
👉 Bikes must be connected to an immovable object with a lock (these regulations also apply to communal cellars or vehicle bike racks).
👉 The cost of the lock is dependent on the original cost of the bike:
- Bikes under €1,000 purchase price require locks from €29.
- Bikes from €1,000 purchase price require locks from €49.
- Alternatively, protection is also guaranteed if the lock is ADFC or VdS certified.
👉 The bike lock must be purchased and owned by the policyholder.
👉 The lock must not be older than two years when the insurance is taken out.

When you take out insurance, you will be asked to provide your frame number. This is the only way to identify your bike or e-bike and guarantee insurance cover. Without a frame number, you cannot submit a claim.
If your insured bike does not have a frame number, you are obliged to have your bike coded immediately by an official specialist dealer, the Allgemeine Deutscher Fahrrad-Club eV (ADFC) or the police.

If you take out a comfort policy and your bike is not more than 3 years old, you enjoy our extensive protection against wear and tear. However, there is a waiting period. You can only receive wear and tear benefits six months after your contract starts. After the replacement of tires or brakes, a new waiting period of six months begins for the replaced parts.

There is no minimum contract period to sign up for our bike insurance. You can simply cancel the policy at any time through your Feather account. If you are canceling because you no longer own the bike (due to selling, gifting, or returning it), you may also be entitled to a refund of premiums if you are able to supply proof that you no longer possess it.
