Former RNC chairman Michael Steele challenged Maher's casual dismissal of the White House as "just a building." For Steele, the White House represents something deeper - a symbol of democracy and a part of his childhood growing up in Washington, D.C.
"It meant something to me as a 10-year-old... It was my childhood," Steele passionately shared.
But Maher stood his ground, arguing that past presidents have also made changes to the White House. He cited examples like Nixon's bowling alley and Obama's basketball court conversion.
Former Biden White House communications director Kate Bedingfield joined the discussion, emphasizing that the East Wing demolition is part of a larger, worrying pattern. She believes it's driven by Trump's desire for self-aggrandizement and is tearing at the institutional foundations of the country.
Maher ultimately agreed, acknowledging that Trump's actions go beyond architecture. "What could President Trump not do? He's drunk with power," Maher concluded.
