Is there a payment limit?

Yes. This will have been set by your business previously. To find out the limit, check 'Manage users'(which can be found in the left hand menu within BIB), then select 'Existing users'and choose your name. If 'Manage users'is not visible, contact your primary user who will be able to advise you.

We reserve the right to select at our own discretion which payment/s is/are not processed. If any payment is not processed, we do not undertake to advise you of this.

We further reserve the right to process at our discretion, payments which exceed the above limits or amount of available funds. However, just because we do this on one or more occasions, does not mean that we are obliged to do so on any other occasion.

When will the account be debited?

Your account will be debited immediately if you have chosen 'Payment date’: ‘Now’. However, if the payment cannot be sent using the Faster Payment service and you are making a payment on a non-working day or after the daily cut-off time, your payment will show on your statement/transaction the next working day without any loss of interest. If you have specified a date, your account will be debited on that day.

When will the payee receive the payment?

Bill paymentsare normally received by the payee's bankstraight away*, subject to internal checks, providing that the payee sort code and account number accepts Faster Payments. In all other cases the payment will take a minimum of three working days. (eg, if you send the payment on Monday it will reach the payee's bank on Wednesday). Certain payments to HSBC accounts will get to your payee real-time on the same day eg, payments from your HSBC business account to your HSBC personal account.

Is there a charge to make a payment?

Yes, unless we have agreed otherwise (e.g, Start up offer), the tariff you have agreed with us will apply and any charges will show on your bank statement. Charges will not be deducted from the amount you are sending.

If I want a payment to be sent today, is there a cut–off time?

The Faster Payment service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year*. If the payment cannot be made using the Faster Payment service you must make the payment by 8pm the night before the day you want the payment to be sent. Certain payments to HSBC accounts will be subject to a later cut off time than this (up to 11.30pm) but you should not rely on this.

How far in advance can a Bill Payment be set up?

In Business Internet Banking, you can select a date up to 45 days in advance. However, you can set up a Bill Payment via Business Telephone Banking or via your Branch up to a year in advance.

Where do I find the reference number I need to enter?

The reference number/code will normally be found on your bill/invoice and should be quoted in full.

Note:
For Commercial Card payments, if you are paying a balance from a previous statement please use the account number as the reference which can be found on your statement. If you are paying for transactions made since your last statement then please quote your 16 digit card number, located on the front of your card. If you are unsure about what reference to use please contact the Card Helpdesk on 03456 076 434.
