Entry into property

Bobcats rarely enter homes and tend to avoid overly developed areas. These predators often travel in predictable patterns, moving between familiar resting areas and hunting grounds. Their territory range tends to include between one and six square miles.

Trapping & Removal

Bobcats are particularly difficult to control because, once they mark territory or find prey in yards, they are more likely to return. In fact, this is the reason trapping and moving them is often unsuccessful. In addition to being illegal in some states, trapping also does not solve the initial cause of the infestation. If prey animals are not eliminated from the property after a bobcat is caught and removed, a new bobcat will likely take its place. Prevention & Exclusion

To keep bobcats from visiting yards, limit possible food sources. Bring small outdoor pets and their food inside overnight and avoid overfilling bird feeders. Feeding wildlife that might be attractive to bobcats, such as feral cats, deer, and rabbits, is another practice to avoid. To keep poultry and livestock safe outdoors, enclose them in secure pens with well-fitted doors. Since bobcats are able to jump up to 10 feet high, pens should have strong wire mesh overhead as well.

Bobcat attacks on humans are unlikely, as they are timid and solitary animals that do not typically initiate contact with people. Bobcats tend to avoid overly developed areas. However, these cats are still dangerous. It is not always immediately obvious when they are in the vicinity, which makes accidental encounters possible. Since bobcats have the speed, claws, and teeth to take down much larger animals, people should avoid them.

Dangerous complications arise when pets or outdoor food sources attract bobcats into yards. For example, a bobcat will attackdogs and cats that are left outside. A constantly replenished supply of pet food also makes the pests feel comfortable in the backyard environment, increasing the chance of conflicts. Therefore, homeowners should bring in pets and their food dishes overnight.

We have a few options when it comes to removing feral cats from crawl spaces. Our first option is to employ feral cat traps with a few different techniques (pre-baiting the area, different scents, potentially a drop trap if it still refuses to come near). Our other option in this case would be to remove the cat using a catch pole.
