How do I know if a phone is compatible with T-Mobile? ›

Enter your IMEI and select Check phone to determine the BYOD eligibility. If the checker shows "No match found," verify the device supports T-Mobile frequencies​. Contact the manufacturer if your unsure of the device frequencies. Determine if your device supports VoLTE and Extended Range LTE.

Unlock eligibility requirements

We unlock mobile devices that meet the following eligibility criteria free of charge. Device eligibility is determined as follows: The device must be sold by T-Mobile. The device must not be reported as lost, stolen or blocked.

Check compatibility with your phone's IMEI.

Every phone has a unique number—15 digits that tells you the make, model, and if it's ready to use on our network. Most phones are compatible. IMEI STATUS CHECK: Dial *#06# to get your phone's IMEI, or find it in phone settings.

Make sure you have a T-Mobile SIM inserted or T-Mobile eSIM setup on the device. Access the Play Store and download the T-Mobile Device Unlock (Pixel) app. Open the app and choose Check eligibility. Select Permanent Unlock, then wait for the unlock to complete.

A locked phone can only use SIM cards from one network, while an unlocked phone can connect to any network using any SIM card. That's the only difference. If you want to switch networks or use a different SIM, you'll need it unlocked.

Enter your phone's IMEI number into the dialog box on the IMEI checker website and click “check” or a similar command. Your IMEI number should contain 15 digits. The website will display information about the Android phone associated with the provided IMEI, including the unlock status.

While unlocked phones offer additional functionality and freedom, they also aren't as secure as locked phones. Furthermore, there's nothing stopping a user from accidentally misusing an unlocked phone or downloading a harmful app.

Find out which manufacturer and carrier can help you
