Bristol's New Year's Eve Celebrations Interrupted by Police Raids
In a recent incident, Bristol's vibrant nightlife took an unexpected turn as police intervened in multiple illegal raves, leading to arrests and the seizure of sound equipment. The events, held at Aztec West, St Phillips, and Purdown, attracted hundreds of revelers, but the festivities were abruptly halted by law enforcement.
The Avon and Somerset Police received multiple calls regarding noise complaints, prompting them to take action. One individual was arrested on suspicion of drug-related offenses, including driving under the influence, while two others were detained at St Phillips after debris was thrown at police officers. The police were called to a warehouse in Aztec West at approximately 10:45 PM GMT, with an estimated 400 to 500 people in attendance. By 3:30 AM on Thursday, the majority of the crowd had dispersed. One individual was arrested on suspicion of drug possession, supply, and driving under the influence, remaining in custody. Two vehicles containing sound equipment were also seized.
At an industrial site in St Phillips, approximately 400 people were found after police were alerted at 11:15 PM. Feeder Road was closed to prevent further attendance. A drone operator assisted in tracking down two suspects who had thrown missiles at officers and police vehicles, with ongoing investigations into these incidents.
Around 100 people were discovered at Purdown after a noise complaint at around 2:25 AM. The organizers' cooperation led to the music being turned off, and the area was cleared by 5:00 AM, without any arrests.
Supt. Headley addressed the public's concerns, stating that the police are not against celebrations but prioritize safety. He added that throwing items at officers and driving under the influence are unacceptable behaviors that warrant a strong response from law enforcement.
