Students can take the SAT as many times as they want. We recommend that they take it at least twice—in the spring of their junior year and the fall of their senior year. Most students get a higher score the second time, and most colleges consider a student's highest SAT score when making admission decisions.

Individuals must be high school graduates, at least 18 years old, speak English fluently, and should have experience administering standardized tests. Staff shouldn't be engaged in providing private PSAT-related assessment or SAT preparation conducted outside the auspices of their school or district for compensation.

Getting accommodations can be a long process, and will require lots of documentation. It should go without saying that you should only seek accommodations if you have a disability or condition that requires them.

Qualifying for SAT ADHD Accommodations

You need a clearly stated diagnosis of ADHD by a qualified professional who references the DSM V. It must be clear that the diagnosis is current, meaning not more than 5 years old. Any medical or psychiatric tests, however, should be from within the last year.

Request accommodations through the school.

To submit a request for accommodations without going through the school, the family will need to fill out the paper Student Eligibility Form and provide documentation.

If your child already has an IEP or 504 plan, it's much easier to request ACT, SAT, or AP test accommodations. In this case, the student has a diagnosis, and the school should have a detailed, well-documented record of how this student's needs have been accommodated in the past.

However, if you have ADHD or a documented learning disability, extra time may allow you to actually complete the test. Not everyone with ADHD benefits from extra time, but many do—particularly those with slow reading rates and processing speed.

Students who use accommodations in school or have an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or 504 plan are not automatically approved for College Board testing accommodations. They must still request accommodations from the College Board.
