Hey Peter!
Both spellings are correct! Americans use canceled (with one L), and British English users use cancelled ( with two Ls).
However, there is only one correct spelling of the word cancellation. It's spelled the same in American and British English.
Hope this helps! :)

Cancelled comes from the word cancel which originates from a latin word:cancellare and an old French:canceller. Cancelled is both the past tense and the past participle of the word cancel. According to Noah Webster a great Englishman, cancelled is the correct spelling. For similar word-shortening reasons, Mr. Webster decided to chop the past tense of “cancel” down to one L.

Both canceled and cancelled are the past tense of the verb cancel. In American English, the verb cancel is usually inflected canceled and canceling with one l. But in varieties of English countries from outside the U.S including British, Canada and Australian English, cancelled and cancelling are the preferred spellings.
Correct way in US and UK is double l. You only see the single l in an airport. The reason for the difference is that the screen where the flights are listed have a limited number of characters. Now, it has unfortunately became common to use it among all travel-related items.

The word cancel has two acceptable alternative past forms, canceled and cancelled.American English - the past tense of cancel is canceled.British English - the past tense of cancel is cancelled.Canceled, with one L, is the preferred spelling of the word in American English, whereas cancelled, with a double L, is the preferred spelling in British English.Just remember to be consistent once you have made your choice in the language settings.
