Chase Purchase Protection: How It Works & What to Know | Chase (2024)

Purchase Protection is a cardmember benefit that protects against theft of, damage to, or involuntary and accidental parting with new retail purchases within 120 days from the date of purchase when using a Chase credit card or Ultimate Rewards® points.

All Chase credit cards including the Sapphire®, Freedom® and Ink® families of cards offer Purchase Protection, but the maximum amount covered per item varies by card.

Read on to find out how Purchase Protection can help cardmembers shop with confidence.

Who is covered under Purchase Protection?

You are eligible for this benefit as a cardmember of an eligible Chase credit card, and you charge all or a portion of the cost of the item to your credit card account or use rewards points toward the purchase of an eligible item. Recipients of gifts purchased by the cardmember with an eligible Chase card are also covered.

What’s covered?

Eligible items of personal property purchased with your account or redeemed through your rewards program are covered. Purchases made outside of the United States if made with your account or using rewards points associated with your account are covered as well. Purchase Protection can cover involuntary separation from a newly purchased item in cases when the cardmember knows where they forgot or left a recent purchase behind, but recovering it is impossible. This would include, for example, purchases made on vacation and left behind.

Purchase Protection can also cover the cost of repairing a recently bought item such as a laptop, smartphone or tablet that has been accidentally damaged.

What’s excluded from coverage?

Before submitting a claim, cardmembers should be familiar with what kind of purchased items are excluded from coverage:

  • Used or pre-owned items
  • Antiques and collectibles
  • Boats, jet skis, automobiles, motorcycles, private aircraft or any other motor vehicle
  • Any items purchased for commercial, resale or use in a professional practice
  • Computer software

For more on exclusions, please see the Guide to Benefits of your Chase card for additional details.

How to file a claim for Purchase Protection

The Benefit Administrator needs to be notified of the damage, theft or involuntary and accidental parting within 90 days of the incident. Completed and signed claim forms and all requested documentation must be returned to the Benefit Administrator within 120 days of the damage, theft or involuntary and accidental parting. Claims can be filed online at www.eclaimsline.com for consumer cards and www.cardbenefitservices.com for business cards. You can also call the number on the back of your credit card to be connected to the Benefit Administrator.
