A coin dispenser (sometimes called a coin changer) is a deviceattached to a workstation that holds coins. A coin dispenser is notassigned to a workstation or server. When connected to a workstationand configured, a cash tender sends commands to the coin dispenserto dispense coins. The coin dispenser controls only the coin portionof a cash transaction. If the customer presents $20.00 to pay a $16.45guest check, the coin dispenser automatically dispenses $0.55, butthe workstation operator must give the remaining $3.00 to the customer.
The coin dispenser hardware varies the coins that are dispensedto avoid depleting a single type of coin. For example, if the devicedispenses $0.55 three times in a row, it is probable that both ofthe following combinations dispense at least once:
-
1 Quarter and 3 Dimes
-
2 Quarters and 1 Nickel
