Get ready for an action-packed day at the 2025 Chinese National Games! Today's finals are sure to keep us on the edge of our seats.
The Backstroke Battle: A Golden Moment for Xu Jiayu
In the men's 50m backstroke final, we witnessed an incredible display of speed and skill. The 30-year-old Olympic medalist, Xu Jiayu, dominated the race, clocking an impressive 24.40. This performance was just a whisker away from his new national record of 24.36, set during the semi-finals.
Xu's victory was closely followed by Wang Zicheng, who touched the wall in 24.80. Jiang Chenglin secured the bronze with a time of 25.01. This achievement adds to Jiang's impressive performance in the 100m back, where he also finished third, while Xu swept the discipline clean.
Breaststroke Brilliance: Tang Qianting's Redemption
Moving to the women's 50m breaststroke final, Tang Qianting, the top seed, converted her position into a golden opportunity. She touched the wall in 30.00, just a fraction off her previous time of 30.01.
Yang Chang, who had a slower time in the previous round, stepped up her game, clocking 30.11 to earn the silver. Siobhan Haughey, representing Hong Kong, took home the bronze, adding to her upcoming 50m freestyle race.
Tang's gold medal win is a sweet redemption after her upset in the 200m breaststroke, where the 15-year-old Lyu Qinyao took the gold. Tang, the favorite, had something to prove, and she did just that.
Freestyle Frenzy: Wu Qingfeng's Speedster Performance
In the women's 50m freestyle, 22-year-old Wu Qingfeng showed why she's a force to be reckoned with. Her time of 24.21 was just off her personal best of 24.18, a record she set in May, making her China's third-fastest swimmer ever. This performance also mirrored her silver-medal-winning time at this year's World Championships.
Cheng Yujie touched just a hair later, improving her personal best by 0.05 seconds to 24.23. We also witnessed a tie for bronze between Siobhan Haughey and Lu Yue, an exciting moment in the pool.
Ties and Teenagers: Zhang Yufei and Wu Yunhan's Shared Glory
Another tie occurred between Zhang Yufei and the young sensation Wu Yunhan, aged just 13. They both touched the wall simultaneously in 24.93, sharing 5th place. This event showcased the depth of talent in Chinese swimming.
