What is a Scandinavian major at Berkeley? ›

The undergraduate curriculum in Scandinavian is a liberal-arts programs that trains students in language skills, critical thinking and writing, and cultural understanding.

Transfer From UC Berkeley

If you are planning to leave UC Berkeley to go to another U.S. school, you must request a "transfer out" from an adviser at Berkeley International Office. The adviser will release your SEVIS record to the new school. The date of your release depends on your program status.

Please submit your official University of California Letter of Reciprocity, which certifies your completion of required general elective (breadth) courses at another UC campus. See your college advisor at your home institution to request your Letter of Reciprocity.

Limits on transfer credits

UC will only accept 70 semester (105 quarter) units of credit for lower-division coursework completed at any non-UC schools.

Computer Science, Engineering, and Economics are the top three hardest majors to get into at Berkeley, followed by Biology and Political Science. The Computer Science program at Berkeley is one of the top-ranked CS programs in the world, so admission there is no small feat.

A: We will request letters from students we feel additional information could be useful in our review process. Only a small percent of applicants will be selected to submit letters, and they can choose to submit letters or not. Not doing so will not negatively impact the review.

Transfer students will need a minimum of 60 units in order to transfer into a UC, as well as successful completion of general education courses, such as IGETC. The minimum GPA for resident transfers is 3.0, while for nonresident transfers it is 3.4.

The instructor may take actions including: Requiring repetition of the course work. Assigning an F grade or a “zero” grade to the subject work, and, for serious offenses (such as academic misconduct on an exam), assigning an F grade to the course.

Similar to freshman admissions, UCLA and Berkeley are the hardest UCs to get into for transfer applicants. The transfer acceptance rate for community college students is 30% at Berkeley and UCLA, compared to about 70% at UC Davis, Santa Cruz and Merced.

This rate is higher than the acceptance rate for freshman applicants, which was 11.4%.

Scandinavian studies is concerned with the study of languages, literature, history, politics, and cultures of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, and the Baltic States of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. Emphasis is placed both on contemporary literature and culture and on historical development.

EECS/Nuclear Engineering:

The EECS/NE joint major combines the traditional EE program with one in the nuclear sciences. Nuclear Engineering shares with EE a concern for electrical power >generation, automatic control, computer sciences and plasmas.

The Scandinavian Leadership Model emphasises the importance of delegating work. Instead of micro-managing projects, employees are trusted to execute tasks in alignment with a common goal. The model is based on teamwork and the notion that every employee has a voice, responsibilities, and influence.
