In Disney Dreamlight Valley, gems are a great source of money and resource. Not only can you sell gems for a hefty amount of Star Coins, but you can use them in crafting recipes. For example, the only way to craft a colorful lamp post is by using the designated gemstone of that color.

Gems come from mining rocks in the game; each biome will have its own set of rocks and gems to find. This list will detail where to find every single gem in the game and what to do with them, whether you should sell them or use them as materials, and for what.

20 Alexandrite

Alexandrite is a pink and green gem found in Eternity Isle in both The Wastes and The Oasis. It's described as a color-changing gem and sells for 350 Star coins. The gem is used in one of Gaston's quests and several crafting recipes.

With Alexandrite, you can make the Purple Tea Set, Purple Ancient's Lamppost, as well as different paths and a Green Bumblestone fence. Freely decorate your village with this unique material and save some for a rainy day to complete future friendship quests.

19 Amethyst

Amethyst is a purple gemstone found in the Forgotten Lands and Frosted Heights, they are the more expensive biomes to unlock. A regular Amethyst sells for 500 Star Coins.

The only recipe available for an Amethyst is a Purple Wrought Iron Streetlamp. Unless you plan to make your entire valley purple-themed, it is probably best to sell this gem.

18 Aquamarine

Aquamarine can be found in Dazzle Beach or the Forest of Valor. The gemstone sells for 250 Star Coins and has a lot of craftable options. You can create Ariel's Crafting Table, blue lamp posts, DJ Booth Rig, and the Gem & Opal Road path, among other things.

Most importantly, you need this gem to craft a Mining Training Manual, which allows you to change the assigned role of a villager to Mining. Since it has more options if you use it for crafting, you are better off saving these gemstones for decoration and future quests.

17 Blue Zircon

As a shining blue gem, Blue Zircon is stunning. It sells for 500 Star coins given its rarity, so it's worth selling any extras you come across. However, Blue Zircon is used in several crafting recipes, including paths, lampposts, and fences.

It's also worth noting that Blue Zircon can be used in Timebending recipes as well, so collecting a supply as you play will be beneficial for decorating your valley how you like. it will take some time to unlock The Lagoon with Mist, but it's worth the effort.

16 Bumblestone

Bumblestone is a golden yellow gem that has a hexagon pattern to it. It's only found in the Borderlands in Eternity Isle, making it much more difficult to get in bulk. It sells for 400 Star coins, though it's better to save some in your adventures.

This gem is used in Timebending recipes and quests, and can be used at a Crafting Station to make fences and paths, as well as the Orange Tea Set and Yellow Ancient's Lamppost. Selling them is a good option, but be sure to keep a few on hand.

15 Citrine

Citrine can be found in the Sunlit Plateau and Glade of Trust. These are biomes you must unlock with Dreamlight first. Citrine will look orange-red in color and will sell for 380 Star Coins.

There are only two items you can craft with Citrine. They are two variants of an orange streetlamp, one with one light and the other with three. Once again, unless you are looking to dawn your valley in multiple orange lamps, you are better off selling this gem or saving it for quests.

14 Diamond

Diamond can only be found in the Forgotten Lands, the unlockable biome above Sunlit Plateau. A single diamond gem will sell for 600 Star Coins. As usual, you can craft streetlamps with this gemstone that emits white light.

The best thing you can do with diamond, though, is craft an Elegant Gazebo. This is a large structure that adds lots of character to your valley, and you'll need ten diamonds to create this. If you're not interested in a gazebo, selling this gem is best.

13 Emerald

You can acquire Emerald within the Forest of Valor and Glade of Trust. An Emerald gem can be sold for 325 Star Coins. You get significantly less Star Coins for this than most gemstones.

As usual, the only thing you can craft with Emerald is three variants of a streetlamp, which would emit green light. You are better off saving your Emerald for future quests or favorite gifts.

12 Evergem

Evergems are puzzling geometric gems that are orange with a golden glow inside. They can only be found in The Ruins, making them rare. They sell for 300 Star coins, and don't have many uses outside of crafting a Fireworks Mount.

Additionally, you'll need three of them to make Rapunzel's Eternal Sundrop Charm during her level seven Friendship Quest, so it's a good idea to hold onto a few of them if you find them. Otherwise, unless you love fireworks, this gem can be sold.

11 Garnet

Garnet is the most basic, common gem you can get because it spawns in the starter area, the Plaza. You can also find Garnet within the Peaceful Meadow. Garnet is the cheapest gemstone for this reason.

You can only sell a single Garnet for 160 Star Coins. There are only two craftable options for this gem, and both are streetlamps. Garnet is basically pointless for crafting, especially when you can get your money elsewhere, but it is required for certain quests for characters like Mickey Mouse and Mother Gothel.

10 Jade

This shiny green gem is smooth and shaped like a triangle. It can be found in Ancient's Landing, in the Courtyard and Overlook areas. It sells for 250 Star coins, so it's worth selling extras for extra spending money.

It's only used for two crafting recipes, which include the Green Ancient's Lamppost and Precious Pebble Path. It's also used in a Timebending lamppost recipe, and in quests for Gaston and EVE. Collect a few of them and sell the rest if you aren't a decorator.

9 Onyx

Onyx is a special and useful gem. You can retrieve Onyx from practically any rock in the entire game. This is a chance drop, no matter what you mine, so keep an eye out for it when roaming your valley. The gem sells for 300 Star Coins and has some pretty useful crafting recipes.

With one Onyx, you can craft three Night Shards, and two different Pickaxe Polishes, which, when consumed, will make rocks drop their respective gems no matter what. Ursula also needs a handful for a quest.

8 Peridot

Peridot is yet another common gemstone because it spawns in one of the starter areas of the valley, the Peaceful Meadow. You can also find Peridot in Dazzle Beach. This gem sells for 200 Star Coins, which is a bummer compared to others.

You can craft two different lamps with Peridot, which will emit green light, as well as a Fireworks Mount. Most importantly, you need Peridot to craft the Mining Training Manual, which changes the role of a villager to Mining. This is useful for finding even more gems!

7 Ruby

Rubies are unique because, like Sapphire, they can only be found within the Vitalys Mine in the Sunlit Plateau. Your Ruby will sell for 350 Star Coins. It will appear red, just like Garnet, though a much deeper shade of red and in a rectangular shape.

There are two lamps you can craft with Ruby that emit red light. The best thing you can use rubies for is to craft a Haughty Snowman. Otherwise, you are better off saving it for later uses or selling it.

6 Sapphire

Sapphire is special because you can only get it from the Vitalys Mine in Sunlit Plateau. The mines become available once you . Once you unlock the Sunlit Plateau, the mines will be accessible.

Sapphire sells for 350 Star Coins. You can craft around four items with it at a crafting table. These items include four variations of a streetlamp with blue lighting. You are better off selling this gem or saving it for quests, like The Chronicles of the Ancients.

5 Spinel

Spinel is a rectangular gem in a dark pink hue, which sells for 450 Star coins. It can be found in the Wild Tangle, specifically in The Promenade and Grove areas. It's used in several crafting recipes, including decorative items like the Large Heap of Riches and fences.

More importantly, it's used to create the Tropical Companion Home, which allows you to assign pets to it. Your pets can freely wander around the area near the home, so it's worth saving a few gems to craft it.

4 Topaz

Topaz can be found in the Plaza in Dreamlight Valley, as well as The Docks and The Courtyard in Eternity Isle. You can sell this gem for 240 Star Coins. While it is not much for money, there are tons of different crafting recipes that call for Topaz.

Aside from lamps, you can craft Crafting Stations, the Tree of Holiday Cheer, and the Mining Training Manual. The best item you can craft with Topaz is the Cozy Companion Home, which allows you to place your pets inside so that they wander around the general area.

3 Tourmaline

Tourmaline sells for 420 Star Coins and can be found within Frosted Heights and the Sunlit Plateau. This is one of the more easily identifiable gemstones since it is bright pink and does not share a color family with any other gem.

Aside from pink light lamps, you can craft the DJ Booth Rig and Gem & Opal Road path with Tourmaline. This is a useful gem for decorating if those two items are your cup of tea. Tourmaline is also needed for quests like The Secret Door and Fire Alarm.

2 Shiny Gems

Shiny Gems are where all the money is. You want to get these over their regular counterparts. When mining, you have a chance to get a Shiny version of that gem. Shiny Gems will sell for 1,000 Star Coins or more.

For instance, a regular Diamond will sell for 600 Star Coins, but a Shiny Diamond will sell for 2,400 Star Coins. If you use mining as a way to earn money, perhaps you want to save the regular ones in a chest and sell the Shiny versions.

1 Vitalys Crystal

Vitalys Crystal is a strange gem you will get tons of when mining in Vitalys Mine. It sells for an absolutely low 12 Star Coins. The purpose of this gem is for crafting alone. You can use these crystals to craft many different potions that increase the resource speed process.

You can craft the Miracle Growth Elixir, making the next couple of watered crops instantly grow for harvest. You can also craft the Miracle Fishing Bait, allowing you to catch rare fish easily for a few catches. Each potion has a limited amount of uses.
