I’m turning 18 very soon, and am trying to research if parental controls/family sharing screen time stay on after my birthday, but can’t find a clear answer anywhere. Some places or answerers say “yes it does turn off” or “it turned off for me”, but others say “no it doesn’t turn off, it stays on until your parent turns it off”. My dad is waiting to see if it automatically turns off, but I’m curious in the meantime. Looking for some clarity, and hope someone can deliver!

You’ll be able to adjust your settings, turn off screen time, etc. once you turn 18. For example, for screen time you can select change/turn off screen time, and then forgot password. Enter your Apple ID and password to gain access.

- I can’t turn screen time off even though I’m 18My parents have family sharing screen time on for me and my siblings, with all the potential restrictions that come with it (of particular annoyance is my inability to go into private browsing or delete history in Safari). Once I turned 18 and went to college I tried to turn off screen time by pressing “Turn Off Screen Time Family Sharing” (this didn’t require a password or anything) and it worked for awhile, but within the day it was turned back on. I tried this several times and the same thing kept happening. Does this mean my parents are turning it back on for me, and is this allowed if I’m a legal adult? Thank you, that’s a much clearer response than what I’ve seen pretty much anywhere else. Just want to clarify that even with editing screen time limits and leaving family sharing currently turned off/greyed out, that that should still work then?

You should be able to edit any setting or turn them off, end or turn on location sharing, leave family sharing, etc. if you elect to remain in family sharing you would likely not be the organizer so purchases (if purchase sharing was enabled) would still go to the organizer. As now with family share, only you have access to your data.
