So you’ve taken the plunge, you’ve booked your tickets and accommodation and you’re off to Uluru for a getaway. Next step, time to plan your Uluru itinerary and what you’ll do in the Red Centre. A common question we get asked here in the NT is do you need to join an Uluru tour to experience Uluru?
There are so many ways to experience Uluru and the Red Centre, that you can really be choosy and make your itinerary work for you! To help get the most out of your Uluru itinerary we’ve put together this blog with a few tips you could choose to add to your Uluru experience.
So what are your Uluru Itinerary Options?
Self-Guided to Uluru
If joining a guided Uluru tour just isn’t your thing, then that is totally fine. You can still experience Uluru and learn about the local area on a self-guided itinerary. To do this you’ll need to have your own car. Don’t worry if you aren’t driving you can always hire a car (which is best booked in advance), or book aboard the Uluru Hop on Hop Off shuttle bus.
If you are exploring independently and don’t want to miss out on learning how Uluru was formed, about local culture or wildlife, then we strongly recommend getting an Uluru Audio Guide. Some tours at Uluru but still independent
If you like the idea of joining a tour to get a sense of connection, however still really want to experience things for yourself, then perhaps you need a blended itinerary. Hire a car and an audio guide for a day to explore Kata Tjuta, but when it comes to Uluru perhaps consider joining a tour with local tour operators. Or better yet could even drive yourself down to the rock to pick up a Segway tour around the full base of Uluru!
