Have you ever noticed an orange or green dot light on your iPhone? If the answer is no then it means you are using iPhone 13 or any older model of iPhone. Because these colorful dots appear only on the last two latest models of iPhones 14 and 15. These dots have direct relationship to the permission you have given to an app to use your iPhone's camera and microphone. Rumor is that these lights turn on automatically when your phone is hacked, letting someone listen to your calls and use the camera. Is it possible? Or the truth is something else. Let's find out.
Meaning of the orange dot on top right of the iPhone
Whether an iPhone could be hacked or not is another long topic to discuss for some other day. Let's be specific and stick to the matter of the orange dot on top right of iPhone.
Be informed that the orange dot you can see in your iPhone shows that the microphone of your phone is being used by an app. It means orange dot is designed and programmed to light up automatically when the microphone is used during a call or video call. Just to be very clear, it's possible only when you have given permission to an app to access and use your mic. Without permission no app can use your phone's camera and mic. Hence, getting an orange dot during a call is all good. It's just a safety feature indicating that your microphone is on. Worry not if you don't remember when you allowed an app to access your mic or camera because you can deny the permission within just a few simple taps.

Meaning of the green dot on iPhone camera
A green dot or green light in your iPhone indicates that either only the camera of your phone or camera and microphone - both are being used by an app. This light turns on when you are on a video call or recording a video. The moment when you cut off the call or stop using the camera then the dot lights should turn off. But if the light does not turn off then it might be a matter of concern, indicating that any app is using or accessing your camera and microphone in the background. In such a case you might like to know which app is behaving in such a way so you can cancel the permission. Read more about it in the next paragraph.
How to turn off the orange and green dot when calling and video recording?
Well, drop the idea of removing or fixing the orange or green dot light when you are on call or recording video. These dots and lights are the safety features of the iPhone built-in by the company and can't be disabled. As long as the iOS or its official app is accessing your device or any part of it then there shouldn't be any problem. It could be a problem when a third party is accessing your device with or without your knowledge in the background. Follow these steps to find out which app(s) is accessing your camera or microphone.
1. Go to settings.

2. Tap "Privacy".
3. Choose "Microphone".
4. Toggle off the button available in front of the app you don't trust.
5. Similarly, select "Camera" to find which app can access it on your device.
6. Toggle off the button to deny access to the camera to the app you don't trust.
Some other tips to fix the orange and green dot light on your iPhone
1. Restart the phone.
2. Reboot the phone.
3. Update the phone.
4. Scan your phone (to detect and remove the malware or spyware if there is any).
If all these steps don't work then consider visiting the authorized Service Centre of Apple.
