Can I download offline Maps on iPad? ›

Download maps

Go to the Maps app on your iPad. Do one of the following: Touch and hold the map until a pin marker appears, then tap Download. Tap your picture or initials next to the search field, tap Offline Maps, tap Download New Map, then enter a location in the search field or tap Current Location.

To download a map in Google Maps offline, open the Google Maps app on iOS or Android and tap your profile picture on the top right (you must be logged in to your Google account for this to work). In the menu that appears, tap Offline maps > Select Your Own Map. You can download multiple Google Maps areas offline.

In the Maps app, search for a location, then tap the place in your search results. Tap the Download button if it's available, or tap More then tap Download Map. If necessary, adjust the area that you want included in your offline map. Then tap Download.

If you can't download apps on iPad, a very basic reason would be the lack of free space across the iPad. Any device that does not have enough space across it would not install anything in itself. Thus, if your iPad does not download and install a certain app, that is probably because of a lack of storage.

On your iPad, go to the iPad ⚙️ Settings app. Locate Wi-Fi on the left. On the right, toggle Wi-Fi to the off position.

Search for your destination in Google Maps. (For example: “Philadelphia.”) Tap the three dots in the top right corner of the information panel. Tap “Download offline map.”

Try a Google Search for GPS devices to use with your Wi-Fi only iPad, as the product range is changing all the time. Even though the cellular model iPads are the only ones which have built-in GPS circuitry, you do NOT need to have a mobile data plan and / or SIM installed in the iPad to use the iPad app.

Use offline maps

After you've downloaded an area, use the Google Maps app just as you normally would. If your Internet connection is slow or absent, your offline maps will guide you to your destination as long as the entire route is within the offline map.

With offline maps in iOS 17 and later, you can use Maps for information and navigation even when you don't have a Wi-Fi or mobile data connection.

You can get travel directions using the Maps app, the Maps widget, Siri, or other devices. You can also get them on your Mac before you leave. Important: To get directions, iPad must be connected to the internet, and Location Services must be turned on. On Wi-Fi + Cellular models, cellular data rates may apply.

You can save a route in Google Maps with the "Pin" feature. Pinning a route or location lets you quickly find that route or directions to that spot again later. In the Google Maps Android app, you can also save a route to your phone's home screen for instant access.
