Dragon Age 4: 5 Reasons Why Solas Should Be Redeemed (And 5 Why He Needs To Die) (2024)

Solas is the hottest topic in the Dragon Age fandom, and in the world of Thedas itself. At the end of Dragon Age Inquisition, it is revealed that he is the Dread Wolf and it very likely to be enemy number one in the next game.

In the Trespasser DLC, players' Inquisitors got to have one last chat with Solas. In that conversation, you can make the choice to either try to change his mind about destroying Thedas or to take him down.

While the next Dragon Age game is not yet out and we still await a lot of information about the title, a lot of fans have already made their choices as to what they want to do with Solas. So here are five reasons people want to redeem him, and five for why they want to take him down.

10 (Redeem) He Wants To Be Wrong

Every step of the path Solas is taking seems to hurt him. There is a strong part of him that does not want to do what he is doing. In fact, he can tell the Inquisitor that he would love the chance to be proven wrong about his choices in the Trespasser DLC.

At first, Solas saw the people of Thedas as not real people, but if befriended, he comes upon the painful conclusion that they are real. This does not change his mind (only makes him feel bad while doing it), but it seems that he desires that final push to get him over the edge.

9 (Take Down) Too Much Has Already Been Sacrificed

Due to Solas' actions, a ton of innocent lives have already been lost. He gave Corypheus the orb in the first place, which puts a lot of blood on his hands already. The tears in the veil were partly his fault and it is his influence that created the Inquisition in the first place.

In the book, Tevinter Nights, it is revealed that elf cults are rising up to try to help Solas conquer Thedas as well. The more time that passes, the more blood Solas will have on his hands.

8 (Redeem) He Can Make Up For His Mistakes

Solas is powerful and has knowledge no one else has. If he can be convinced and redeemed, then he would be the most useful person when it comes to undoing the damage that has been done. It would likely take up the rest of his life to make up for what he has done, but that would likely put his soul at peace.

7 (Take Down) You Can't Save A Man From Himself

"You can't save a man from himself." These are Solas' own words if you talk to him about feeling guilty about getting Gaspard killed at the Winter Palace.

You can push, pull, and talk to him all you want. However, if Solas can't make the choice with you to be saved, then there is likely no other choice than to take him down. You can give him a chance, but there is the likely possibility that he won't give himself the chance.

6 (Redeem) You Love Him

Solas is a romanceable character in Inquisition, and a lot of fans fell head-over-heels for him. His flirts were bold and witty, and despite his betrayal . . . it is obvious that he still loves Lavellan and he is getting torn up inside about her.

RELATED:

According to his writer, Patrick Weekes, Solas nearly gave up his quest so that he could be with Lavellan. Nearly. That scared him, so that is why he broke up with her.

5 (Take Down) You Hate Him

While some fans love him, there are also those that hate Solas. They see him as a stubborn racist who is swallowed up by his own pride. If you treat him as such, his heels actually dig deeper into his dark side. Rather than changing and seeing that everyone in Thedas is real, he believes more that what he is doing is right.

4 (Redeem) He's Too Powerful To Be Killed

With a mere gaze or touch of the hand, Solas can turn anyone to stone. How do you beat someone like that?

It is possible that you simply can't. So the only way to defeat him is to get him on your side, or perhaps make the choice to die.

3 (Take Down) He Is Too Dangerous To Be Alive

Dragon Age 4: 5 Reasons Why Solas Should Be Redeemed (And 5 Why He Needs To Die) (8)

Even if Solas is somehow redeemed, he will be hunted by various factions for the rest of his life. That is because many would agree that he is too dangerous to live. Your average mage gets hunted and turned tranquil for minor offenses and Solas has done far more than an average magic-user.

Would Thedas ever really still be safe with him walking around?

2 (Redeem) He Could Save Thedas From Qunari Invasion

Dragon Age 4: 5 Reasons Why Solas Should Be Redeemed (And 5 Why He Needs To Die) (9)

As usual, Thedas is juggling multiple threats at once. Solas is just one problem. The Qunari are another, and they are already tearing Tevinter to shreds in their colonialist conquest.

Solas has already voiced opposition to their brutal methods. In Trespasser, he even meddled with them in an attempt to let Thedas live out the last of its years in peace before he would make his move. If he is redeemed, he can save Thedas from the invading Qunari.

1 (Take Down) He Is ATraitor

Dragon Age 4: 5 Reasons Why Solas Should Be Redeemed (And 5 Why He Needs To Die) (10)

How can you trust Solas after what he did to the Inquisition? He played everyone like a fiddle. Even your spymaster has no suspicious about him. If you re-watch cutscenes or play the game more than once, you can really see how genius Solas was with how he used the Inquisition for his own gains.

So if he betrayed the Inquisition and all his friend like that, can you still even trust him?
