Easy Garlic Butter Chicken Breasts (One-Pan Recipe) (3)
  • Chicken breasts - try to use fresh, free-range, skinless, boneless chicken breasts.
  • Chicken broth - make sure you use chicken broth, not chicken stock. It contains fewer carbs, making it more keto-friendly. Remember always to check the nutrition label when buying store-bought varieties.
  • Butter - the butter is the secret to the sauce in this recipe. It adds A LOT of extra flavor to the chicken. Try to use grass-fed butter, and although we highly recommend using it in this recipe, you can always substitute it with light olive oil.
  • Garlic - Garlic is one of the most versatile ingredients in the kitchen. Whether added to a sauce or used as a breading, garlic has many uses. This recipe shows how to add so much extra flavor to your chicken with this simple combination of butter, garlic, and herbs. Make sure you use fresh garlic for the best flavor.
  • Olive oil - pairs so well with almost all keto recipes and has several health benefits.
  • Parsley - we used plenty of fresh parsley to garnish the chicken breasts. You can also use fresh cilantro, dill, and any of your favorite fresh herbs.
  • Seasonings - we used chicken seasoning (poultry seasoning), salt, and black pepper. These are completely up to you. Feel free to use any of your favorite seasonings. Italian seasoning also works great as a substitute for poultry seasoning and contains many similar herbs.

How do you cook boneless skinless chicken breasts so they don't dry out? ›

Her suggestion: Place boneless, skinless chicken breasts in a pan in a single layer, cover with a few inches of liquid (water, broth, etc.), add flavorings (spices, salt, herbs, soy sauce, etc.), then bring the liquid just barely to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce the heat so the liquid simmers.

How do you make chicken soft and tender when cooking? ›

Brines and marinades help tenderize the meat by bringing more moisture in the protein. With that extra moisture, you lose less when you cook. The simplest way to do this is with a dry brine — unwrap the chicken breasts, salt them on both sides and let them sit in the fridge for at least an hour.

Is it better to bake or pan fry chicken breast? ›

While both baking and pan frying can give you tasty, juicy chicken, if you are in a hurry, it is better to pan fry it. Because baked chicken breast is easy to dry out, it needs time to brine or marinade before you cook it.

Is it better to bake a chicken with olive oil or butter on it? ›

Honestly, spraying olive oil is my most frequent choice because it's so much faster, a bit healthier, and I don't have to use as many ingredients ($$$). Using butter + olive oil will give you an even juicier result. Hard to believe, because with the olive oil it's just amazing too.

When to add garlic to chicken? ›

It's best to cook the chicken first because it takes longer to cook than garlic does. Add the garlic after the chicken has been cooked and removed from the pan. Garlic only takes 30 seconds to 2 minutes to become aromatic and can burn quickly after that, so it's important to add it later in the cooking process.

Should I cover the pan when cooking chicken breast? ›

The covering helps prevent excessive evaporation and keeps the chicken moist throughout the cooking process. Preventing dryness. Chicken tends to dry out more quickly when exposed to direct heat. Covering the chicken creates a barrier that prevents the top surface from drying out, resulting in tender meat.

How long does it take to cook a chicken breast in a pan? ›

Take off the cling film and season well. 2. Heat the oil in a frying pan then add the chicken breasts (skin-side down, if they have skin) and cook for 2-3 minutes or until browned. Then turn over, cover and cook on the other side for 7-8 minutes or until cooked through.

How do you not overcook chicken breast in a pan? ›

Sear both sides of the breast and don't try to flip it until you feel the meat release naturally from the surface of the pan. It should come up easily when it's ready. Get a meat thermometer so you can tell when the chicken is cooked, it's very easy to overcook it by accident.

What is the secret to moist chicken breast? ›

Brine. Like a marinade, a brine helps chicken breast soak up as much moisture as possible before cooking. It only requires three ingredients: water, salt, and a pinch of sugar.

How to stop chicken breast drying out when frying? ›

Place a flat-bottomed frying pan on a medium-high heat and drizzle in a good amount of olive oil. When the oil is nice and hot, place the chicken breasts in the pan and leave to cook for 5 -7 minutes, untouched until a nice golden crust forms. If you have a lid for the pan, pop it on to help retain all that moisture.

How do you keep cooked chicken breast from drying out? ›

After your chicken breasts are done cooking, let them rest for at least half the time that you cooked them for before slicing into them. This will ensure that the breasts stay super juicy and flavorful, and that they're fully cooked. Trust me, waiting the few extra minutes pays off big time — every time.

How do you keep chicken breast from getting tough? ›

Moist Heat Cooking: Consider simmering the tough chicken in a liquid-based recipe, such as a stew, soup, or curry. Moist heat cooking methods can help break down the fibers in the meat, making it more tender.

Does chicken breast get more tender the longer you cook it? ›

Close-up of a woman slicing raw chicken breast meat on a cutting board. Chicken becomes more tender the longer it cooks. Unfortunately, most cooking methods produce extremely dry meat when the chicken is cooked long enough to become tender.
