Here is a great hot apple cider recipe submitted by Jennings.

handful of cinnamon candy (red hots)
Heat in a crock pot or on the stove on low till dissolved. Then enjoy!
Thank you, Jennings
If you don’t have red hot candies, here is the hot apple cider recipe from Dining on a Dime, Volume 1.
You can adjust these ingredients to suit your own taste. I love mine sweet, so I add almost twice as much sugar. You can adjust the other spices too.
I put my hot apple cider on the lowest setting my burner will go and simmer the cider for hours just because it makes the house smell good. You can put it in a crock pot and leave it on low for the same effect.

I do the same with just a couple cinnamon sticks.
leave it in the slow cooker and it scents the room very nicely during the day.
It is a nice home coming after the cold weather outside.
My husband is diabetic so the unsweetened juice and cinnamon sticks makes it a treat he can enjoy.Thursday's Child
I love cider and really miss it over here. It’s nice to know I can just use apple juice. I think I know what I’ll be picking up tomorrow after church for a treat. ;)

Wow! I just tried grandma’s homemade hot applie cider recipe. It’s delicious! Thank you for sharing this, as it’s so much better than the store-bought powder and hot water kind :0)

a few more hot drink treats.
flavoured teas that are specialty for Christmas can be made simply by making a cup of tea and adding a cinnamon stick or a bit of nutmeg. this is similar to the pumpkin pie teas they sell.
If you want a peppermint flavoured one stir it with a candy cane. stronger let it melt in the cup while you drink.Reply

Great ideas! I makes a cinnamon “tea” that I love this time of year. It is simply to put a cinnamon stick in a mug and pour hot water on it, then let it “steep” for a couple of minutes, depending on how strong you want it. No caffeine, no sugar (unless you want to add some), light, hydrating, warming, soothing, AND you can use the same cinnamon stick several times.

You can get a nice apple-flavoured infusion by drying and keeping your apple skins. It is possible to add some cinnamon while drying them or brewing your infusion, or simply by storing a cinnamon stick within the peels. This makes for a lighter drink than hot juice.

We get wonderful apple cider at our Farmers’ market and I just heat it on the stove for a short time or in the microwave and it enhances the apple flavor tremendously. What a nice treat on a cold or dreary fall or winter day. All I need is a few ginger snaps, some hot cider and a good book. After this, you are so snuggly warm you just want a nap. :)

Last night I made the drink using hot apple juice and red hots and it was good. I also had Iced Gingerbread cookies from Germany that I bought from Aldi’s. They are great. Jill does your Aldi’s get Chritmas stuff? The Aldi’s here has so many pretty things for Christmas. Candies and cookies and Cherry Stollen from Germany that has Black Forest Liquor and is covered with confectioners sugar that looks like snow. Cool stuff.

Yes they do and it is all so tempting. I like getting some of it for Christmas gifts.

I just want to say that those Glazed Gingerbread cookies from Aldi’s are very good. They have chocolate on the bottom and colored icing on top and are soft. Very good. Also, sometimes it’s cheaper to buy something nice like that Cherry Stollen from Germany, instead of making it yourself, because of all the nice ingredients, like candied fruit, marzipan, and liquer, like you have mentioned on this site in the past. The Stollen looks so pretty too.

You are right Bea. We seem to think that things made from scratch are always cheaper and taste better but that isn’t always true.

Jill, I was looking at a Christmas book last night and just happened to notice a recipe for Stollen and was intrigued because in the Stollen I bought from Aldi’s I noticed a filling in the shape of a circle that runs through the Stollen, and I wondered why it was there. While I was looking at the recipe it mentioned that the circle of filling is suppose to symbolize Jesus wrapped in swaddling clothes. Isn’t that nice?

It is Bea. Many of the foods we eat especially the ones that came with settlers from so many different countries have interesting storing and meanings behind them.

I think that’s so nice Jill. I know the candy cane has an interesting history and when I found it out it made me like them even more.

the cider is good with some orange juice in it, or just about 1/2 an orange sliced into it, then simmered.

Is cider in the U.S. non alcoholic apple juice? Apple juice is wonderful, very cold on a hot day and especially hot and spicy when you have a cold.
In Britain, “cider” is alcoholic.
Campaign for Real Ale note: (sorry). Real cider is the fermented juice of pressed apples, using the wild yeasts on the fruit skins. The flavour, sweetness and strength come from the types of apples used. Real “perry” is the same thing only made with pears. They both have to be treated with care unless you want a very bad headache next day.Yes, they do sell the alcoholic liquid made from apple concentrate, sugared and pasturised here too. It’s cheaper of course.

Yes Magdalen. Cider is non alcoholic apple juice basicly. The main difference is that cider has not been filtered or any thing so it is cloudy and it doesn’t keep as long as apple juice does. You can freeze cider though if you need too because it will last only about 2 weeks in the fridge. I found that fact good to know because this time of year is the only time you can find cider easily and cheaper.

Fermented (alcoholic) apple cider in the U.S. is known as “hard cider.”

I love how simple these recipes are! My favorite place to make apple cider is in the slow cooker because of the scent that is given throughout the kitchen and possibly the home. So yummy!

I am like you Micah. I like sometimes fixing this not just because I like to drink it but because it makes the house smell so good too.
