Players can create unique builds using the diverse range of weapons available and, along the way, discover new ways of defeating the many enemies of Elden Ring.

As is expected with such a large range, certain weapons are just more effective than others. Every weapon in Elden Ring is a viable choice for players to use, but certain weapons can make this notoriously tough game much easier to overcome. Each weapon category has a varied and unique selection, with the very best becoming the chosen tool for millions of players looking for every advantage they can get against some of the game’s toughest challenges.

Some of these weapons create entirely new gameplay styles, offering unique options for players to explore. As with many of the armaments in the base game, some of the weapons in the DLC are extremely strong and can be considered game-breaking. As such, this article has been updated to also include Shadow of the Erdtree's most overpowered weapons.

19 Reduvia

In addition to its standard damage, the Icerind Hatchet will inflict frost build-up on enemies, which can be effective against many foes, causing sudden high damage. Players will find the weapon in the Liurnia of the Lakes region, in a chest in the Temple Quarter.

16 Wing Of Astel

The Wing of Astel is by far the most effective curved sword, especially for intelligence builds. Its strong attack creates a ranged projectile and, when charged, will send out two. Its weapon skill, Nebula, spreads out a small dark cloud that will then explode, causing damage to multiple enemies when surrounded. Additionally, the weapon also inflicts 20% more damage against gravity-type enemies.

Found in a chest, after defeating the ruins' minor boss, the Bloody Helice inflicts strong piercing damage and blood loss on enemies. Match this with its unique weapon skill, Dynast’s Finesse, which allows players to avoid an attack and quickly follow up with a counterstrike, making this one of the best thrusting weapons in Elden Ring.

13 Fallingstar Beast Jaw

12 Executioner's Greataxe

They can also be buffed with magic and consumables, further overpowering the already strong weapon. Players will be able to find the first in a carriage in the Altus Plateau region, as well as an additional one, which is dropped after defeating Magnus The Beast Claw.

Of all the Katanas in the game, Rivers of Blood has become one of the most widely used in Elden Ring, for both PvE and PvP battles.

With a weapon skill that can cause massive blood loss on enemies, Rivers of Blood can quickly destroy a boss's health bar. With strong scaling in dexterity and arcane, this weapon has become known as Elden Ring's easy mode. Players will need to wait, though, as it is only available in the late game stages once players have reached the Mountaintop of the Giants region in the Church of Repose.

These weapons can quickly become overpowered. Using keen scaling and leveling dex, the speed and precision of the attacks can defeat many of the game’s enemies. Buffing the weapon with blood grease or the Bloodflame Blade incantation can further overpower the already impressive armament.

3 Dryleaf Arts

An additional variant of the style, Dane's Footwork, can be obtained from Dryleaf Dane’s body after defeating him during the fight with Needle Knight Leda in the late game.

This effective hand-to-hand combat style completely changes the way the game is played. The unique weapon skill for Dryleaf Arts, Palm Blast, is a powerful and quick attack that can quickly knock enemies back. Dryleaf Arts’ blend of speed and power makes it an extremely effective weapon against the highly aggressive enemies found in the DLC.

2 Rellana’s Twin Blades

The sword is from the new Light Greatswords weapon category, introduced in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.

Defeating Rellana in Castle Ensis will reward players with the Remembrance of the Twin Moon Knight, which can be exchanged for this graceful sword. Its weapon skill, Moon-and-Fire Stance, imbues the weapon with magic, allowing for medium-range attacks of glintstone or fire. The weapon's speed and power are dangerous to enemies weak to magic or fire, making it a versatile and effective weapon.

1 Dragon-Hunter's Great Katana

Received as a reward for defeating Ancient Dragon-Man, the sword does additional damage to Dragon enemies. On top of this, its fast attacking weapon skill can decimate from a medium range. The Katana also inflicts blood loss on enemies, which can melt health bars quickly. For players looking for an advantage against Elden Ring's Dragons, the Dragon-Hunter’s Great Katana is a must-use weapon.
