Some 300 beautifully crafted stalls offer mouth-watering international food, drinks and finely crafted Yuletide gifts in the heart of the buzzing city centre.

Fortunately, though, you do not need tickets to access any of the Manchester Christmas market stall locations, including the Winter Gardens. However, if you want to visit the ice skating rink in Cathedral Gardens, you will need to purchase a ticket. You can book tickets either at the ticket booth or online in advance.

Nestled in between historic landmarks in the city's old banking district are a host of Alpine festive market stalls selling a tempting selection of European goods as well as crafts, food and drinks.

There are a heap of meze dishes too - like pork, sage and cranberry stuffing balls, bacon and brie stuffed flatbread with cranberry and pickled cabbage, and a nut roast version too. If you can't decide, get the Christmas Meze Sharer, with pigs in blankets, wings, festive cheese bites, padron peppers and calamari.

1. Cardiff. For 30 years, Cardiff Christmas Market has been populating the pedestrian areas of the city centre with stalls showcasing the original work of its craftspeople and artists.

As well as loads of beers and wines at the King Street Craft Bar, you can dive in on surprisingly festive slushy co*cktails. Flavours include 'The Grinch' (made with vanilla vodka and a lemon-lime slush), 'Mad Santa' (pink gin and strawberry) and 'Yellow Snow' (limoncello, vanilla vodka, and lemon slush).

In the Christmas and New Year's Eve period, you can find poffertjes stalls on every Christmas market. Traditionally they are served with powdered sugar and hot melted butter. Poffertjes are baked in a special pan.

The parade will set off from Manchester Cathedral. It'll proceed up Deansgate to St Ann's Street, turn left onto St Ann's Street to Cross Street, turn left onto Cross Street, continue onto Corporation Street, turn left onto Fennel Street where it'll disperse.

This year the mug will feature four different festive Nutcracker designs, with what the council describe as a "distinctive and on-trend Scandi feel". They feature four cartoon soldier faces, two with large moustaches, and a colourful geometric design.
