On April 25, 2024, the Commission adopted a Declaratory Ruling, Order, Report and Order, and Order on Reconsideration (Order) restoring Net Neutrality and bringing back a national standard for broadband reliability, security, and consumer protection.
Regarding accessibility for individuals with disabilities, the Order enhances the FCC’s authority to:
- Better safeguard access to IP-based telecommunications relay services (TRS);>
- Ensure that broadband Internet access service is accessible to and usable by individuals with disabilities; and
- Ensure that emergency communications by persons with disabilities are not interrupted or degraded.
On May 22, 2024, a notice was published in the Federal Register establishing an effective date of July 22, 2024, for these rules.
