After we already presented you the 4-1-2-1-2(2) and 4-4-2, we now present you the 4-2-3-1. This formation has the reputation of a very defensive alignment in the FIFA community and lives up to it. Accordingly, it is very unpleasant to play against. We'll show you which tactics and instructions you can use to your own advantage.

The tactics for defense and offense
For the defensive style, we advise you to go for the balanced alignment, since the 4-2-3-1 is very well balanced defensively and doesn't need any extras. Accordingly, for the width, you should also go for a balanced value around 50. For the depth you can go for a value between 58 - 65, because as we said a rock solid defense is given.
For the offensive style, we also recommend a balanced alignment. In addition, you should focus on 'Direct Passes' when creating chances. This way you can take advantage of the fact that the majority of the spaces are covered and that you have a large number of passing stations. We also recommend a width between 44 - 50, as this formation has a wide basic alignment.
Compared to the other formation guides, we advise you to use only 4 - 5 bars for 'players in box' in this formation, as your offense is very well staffed with two wingers, an attacking midfielder and a striker. For 'corners' and 'free kicks' we advise you to use one bar. This way you can counteract the very strong counterattacks in FIFA 22.
These are the aspects you should consider with these tactics
We advise you to play two strong CDM's to keep your midfield together. Furthermore, we would recommend you to play a left-footer on the right wing and a right-footer on the left wing, so that you can cut well into the middle. Since your striker is the only player up top, he should have either 5 star skill or 5 star weak foot to be able to get into good finishing positions.
