While it may seem daunting, it’s important to remember that love is not out of reach. When you’re confident and content with who you are, you’ll naturally attract those who appreciate and admire those qualities. This can be a process; it takes time to heal and grow, to find yourself, and to stand on your own two feet with confidence. But when you do, you’ll not only be in a better place, but you’ll attract the right person.

As single mums, we have multiple responsibilities, including taking care of our children, managing our careers, cooking healthy meals, being a counselor to our children, being the CEO of our homes, and the list goes on… It’s crucial to define your priorities and know what you’re looking for in a partner. Are you seeking a long-term commitment or something more casual? Knowing what you want will help you focus your efforts in the right direction, and put the right energy out into the universe (as well as on your dating profile).
3. Network and socialize
Meeting new people can be a challenge for single mums, but it’s completely possible. Consider expanding your social network by joining local parenting groups, participating in community events, or attending classes, workshops, or exercise groups that interest you. The more people you meet, the greater the chance of finding someone who shares your interests and values. Or meeting someone who can connect you with their amazing single friend.
4. Online dating
Online dating has become a popular way to meet new people, and it can be especially convenient for single parents. It allows you to connect with potential partners from the comfort of your own home. Be honest in your dating profile about your situation and what you’re looking for in a relationship. And be prepared to take a break when you need it. Online dating can be exhausting, and it’s probable you’ll meet a few creeps or people that aren’t right for you along the way.
5. Stick to what you want
When you meet someone you’re interested in, it’s important to stay open and honest about your priorities and intentions (which you have already identified above) for dating. Discuss your children and your responsibilities early on, stay firm on what it is that you want, and set the boundaries that you are comfortable with. Honesty with yourself and staying true to yourself and your wants and needs is key. Settling is not the answer ladies, and you are amazing, my friend!
6. Patience is key
Finding the right partner may take time, and that’s perfectly normal. Be patient and don’t rush into a relationship. Remember that quality is much more important than quantity when it comes to dating. Wait for the person who truly understands and respects your role as a mother.
7. Introducing your partner to your children
When you’ve found someone you want to build a future with, the time will come to introduce them to your children. This should be a carefully considered step, and it’s essential to ensure your children are comfortable with the idea. Communication is key during this process, and make sure your children know that they are a top priority in your life.

Balancing your role as a mother and a partner can be challenging, but it’s possible with open communication and time management. Remember to carve out quality time for both your partner and your children, and ensure that everyone feels valued and loved.
Finding a new partner as a single mum is absolutely achievable. But let me affirm that it’s not the goal. People often tell me how great and inspiring it is that I found my happy ending by finding my husband. But let me tell you that I found my happy ending long before I found him. And he is the cherry on top of the icing on the cake. It’s all about self-care, self-discovery, growth, and being patient while taking the time to build meaningful connections. And when you’re in the right place, you will meet and attract the right person for you.
