Misplaced Your Card? Freeze It Now

If you've ever reached for your wallet to discover your card isn't where you thought it was, this feature is for you. Now, when you temporarily misplace your Navy Federal Credit or Debit Card, you can freeze the card while you locate it. Once you locate the card, you can unfreeze it in seconds on the mobile* app and continue using it as you did before it was frozen.

A Quick Fix

Freezing your card isn't a notification that your card is lost or stolen, or that there have been unauthorized transactions on your account. It's simply a way to confirm no transactions can be made until you find your card.

How to Freeze and Unfreeze From Your Mobile App

  1. Step1

    From the Accounts page,select the corresponding checking account to freeze your debit card, or select the credit card you want to freeze.

    If you’re using the new mobile app, you can find step-by-step instructions here.

  2. Step2

    Select Manage Card, then select Freeze Card from the next menu.

  3. Step3

    Select Freeze Cardto continue. If you successfully freeze the card, a confirmation screen will appear.

  4. Step4

    To unfreeze a card, navigate to the Account Details page. Select Unfreeze Card to resume using the card as normal.

When should I freeze my credit or debit card?

When you temporarily misplace your credit or debit card, you can freeze access until you find your card. Once you locate the card, you can unfreeze it in seconds on the mobile app and continue using it as you did before it was frozen.

What do I do if I lose my card or suspect it’s been stolen?

If your card is lost or stolen, or if you notice unauthorized transactions, please call 1-888-842-6328 immediately. Freezing your card doesn't serve as a notice that it's lost or stolen, or that an unauthorized transaction has posted to your account.

Who can freeze their cards?

For debit cards, cardholders may freeze their individual cards. For credit cards, primary and joint cardholders can freeze any card on the credit card account, andAuthorized users may freeze or unfreeze their individual cards. Business Account cardholders can't freeze their cards at this time.

Does freezing my card freeze all card numbers on the same account?

No. Freezing your card number doesn't freeze other card numbers that access the same account.

For debit cards, cardholders may freeze their individual cards but not the debit cards for joint owners of checking accounts.

For credit cards, primary and joint cardholders can use online banking or the mobile app to freeze any card on the account, including cards assigned to Authorized Users.Authorized Users can freeze and unfreeze their own cards.

What happens to my recurring card charges when I freeze my card?

While your card is frozen, charges identified by the merchant as existing recurring charges will still be processed as normal. To stop a recurring charge on a frozen card, you’ll need to reach out to the merchant directly. You won’t be able to set up new recurring card charges until you unfreeze your card.

No. Your account number doesn’t change when you freeze or unfreeze your card.

How often can I freeze or unfreeze my credit or debit card?

You can freeze or unfreeze your card as many times as you need through the mobile app.

Is there a time limit on how long the freeze will remain on the card?

No. The card will remain frozen until you unfreeze it through the mobile app.

How is freezing or unfreezing my card related to activating my card?

Freezing and unfreezing your card doesn't affect your card's activation status in any way. In fact, you can repeatedly freeze and unfreeze a newly received card before even activating it. If you've just received a card from us, follow the instructions to activate it, and then make sure it's not frozen. Then you can begin using it immediately.

Does the freeze status of my card carry over if I receive a new or replacement card?

If you order a new or replacement card, the 16-digit card number will be different from your old card and the freeze status won't carry over to the new card. However, if your existing card is renewed, you'll receive a card with the same 16-digit card number as your existing card, and the freeze status will carry over.
