Frequently Asked Questions - SLNT® (2024)

You’ve got questions, we’ve got answers. To better understand how Faraday bags work, please see the below frequently asked questions. Your mobile privacy, security and health depend on it.

A Faraday bag is a signal blocking bag that kills wireless signals to and from your device. SLNT utilizes its patented Silent Pocket® construction and Multishield® Faraday fabric to create sleek Faraday Cages that encapsulate mobile devices like phones, tablets, key fobs and laptops from emitting or receiving any radio frequency. Thus making them mute from the digital world. This helps to ensure your device remains isolated and protected from wireless communication, enhancing privacy, security and health

The Faraday cage was invented by Michael Faraday in 1836. In layman's terms, it is an enclosed structure made of conductive materials, such as copper, silver or other metal that cancels electronic fields from entering or exiting. The Faraday cage is designed to block or prevent the entry or exit of electromagnetic fields for whatever is inside. Think man standing inside cage and the electric charge is not effecting him. By placing your device inside a Faraday Cage aka Faraday Bag (an adopted term for use with mobile devices) you instantly block all inbound and outbound wireless communication including Cellular, Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS, NFC, RFID, 5G, EMF radiation, and EMP protection.

Faraday Bags Instantly Block:Cellular, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, RFID, NFC, EMP, Satellite, Navigation, Solar Flare, and EMF Radiation

Get Technical:

Silent Pocket® with Multishield® (Faraday Shielding Material) is MIL‐STD‐188‐125‐2 compliant, and exceeds IEEE 299-2006 (1 - 40GHz) standards. (100,000:1 reduction, see testing page here)

  • Blocks 100 dB+ Cellular, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, RFID, NFC, EMP, and EMF Radiation
  • Blocks CDMA, GSM, DCS, PHS, 3G, 4G, 5G, LTE
  • Blocks WiFi (2.4 - 5 GHz), Bluetooth (2.4 GHz), and GPS (1-2 GHz)
  • Blocks RFID and NFC @ 13.56 MHz
  • Shields against EMP, HEMP, CME, Solar Flare, and static shock
  • Blocks Carrier, hardware, and OS agnostics

Great question! Smartphones are never really "off" because you cannot remove the power source. In many cases, phones may still be active even though they appear to be turned off. We view this more as "dormant" state, it may still be able to harvest your data or report your location.

Slipping your phone into a Faraday bag creates an electromagnetic barrier between the phone and the Cellular, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, RFID networks. You're completely off the grid anywhere anytime!

Quite the contrary, everyone and everything is following you and tracking your location. If you want to be able to go from point A to point B with no one the wiser (gov, corp, person) then utilizing a Faraday bag is the perfect solution.

It can in some cases, but it is not effective enough to call a solution. It will fail in most environments from blocking wireless signals. Plus it looks like tinfoil and your $1000 smartphone deserves a little bit more style with a refined SLNT® product. Leave the tinfoil for the kitchen!

Yes, Faraday bags can block electromagnetic radiation (EMR), including EMF radiation. The Multishield® shielding material used in our bags disrupt the electromagnetic waves, preventing them from passing through to your head or body.

We utilize Multishield® material as the Faraday shielding material in our products. Multishield® is a durable, corrosion resistant and highly effective wireless shielding material that is MIL‐STD‐188‐125‐2 compliant, and exceeds IEEE 299-2006 (1 - 40GHz) standards. (100,000:1 reduction, see testing page here)

We test all of our Faraday bags through third-party facilities and contractors, in house with our quality control process and in real world environments. Multishield is MIL‐STD‐188‐125‐2 compliant and exceeds IEEE 299-2006 (1 - 40GHz) standards for a 100,000:1 reduction. We take the functionality of our products as the top priority for the SLNT brand. If you would like to read more on the technical aspects of our testing please see below.

Not anymore! When we had flip phones operating on analog yes, your phone would constantly search for service draining your battery. But now your smart phone goes into hibernation since it is not being pinged by any signals. In fact, leaving your device inside for extended periods of time (ie. overnight or driving through variable signal environments) conserves battery life significantly.

Yes, your phone’s alarm will not be silenced and you'll still be able to use the functions of setting reminders on the internal time clock that is not reliant on cellular or wireless service.

No, SLNT® products do not damage wireless devices.

Your service is temporarily interrupted in a passive way, and resumed in 10-20 seconds when the phone is taken out from inside the enclosed Faraday cage.

Yes! You can download music from your preferred music platform. These songs will be accessible while your phone is inside your Faraday bag without needing data (Cellular and WiFi).

Unfortunately you will not be able to use a wall charger while your device is inside a Faraday bag due to the cord disrupting the seal of the closure.

You will be able to use a portable charger inside a Faraday bag as long as it fits with your device and the Faraday bag is properly sealed.

Yes you can. All the SLNT products scan just like any other textile going through the X-ray machine and will not be flagged. Free to roam securely.

Yes, we encourage this! Nighttime is a great time to disconnect from your phone, bluelight and the feeling of being responsive to a device. By placing your phone inside a Faraday bag at night, you can instantly block all harmful radiation to your body/head and not be distracted by notifications.

By implementing a Faraday bag into your nightly routine (unless you're on standby for children or need your phone) you can gain more restful sleep and still use your phones internal alarm if you choose.

When you remove your device from the Faraday bag and your phone regains service it will receive all missed data including texts, emails, voicemails, notifications, and alerts.

No, SLNT® products are legal and do not emit wireless signal to jam radios. This is a passive shielding technology that allows anyone to hide their devices from the digital world.
