According to Germany's Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur), the country's renewable energy capacity increased by 12% (17 GW)to just under of 170GW in 2023. Solar and wind energy sources are the main contributors to this development with 14.1GW (twice the capacity addition of 2022)and 3.2 GW, respectively (2.9GW of onshore and 0.3GW of offshore), while biomass doubled its 2022 installed capacity to 120 MW. According to the announcement, the Bundesnetzagentur estimates that it will need to install approximately 19GW of new solar capacity and 7.7GW of onshore wind capacity annually to achieve its targets for 2030 (215GW and 115 GW, respectively).
According to the projections of BNetzA released in May 2022, total power generation capacity is expected to increase to 627GW in 2037 (+6.4% year), with up to 576GW of renewables (+9.3% year). In 2045, this capacity should reach up to 750GW (+5%/year), with up to 703GW of renewables (around x 5, i.e. 93-94% of total capacity), including 400 to 445GW of solar, 160 to 180GW of onshore wind, and 180GW of offshore wind.
