Get a verification code and sign in with two-factor authentication - Apple Support (CA)? ›

On your iPhone go to Settings > [your name] > Sign-In & Security. Tap Turn On Two-Factor Authentication, then tap Continue. Enter a trusted phone number (the number you'll use to receive verification codes), then tap Next. A verification code is sent to your trusted phone number.

If you're trying to sign in and don't have a trusted device with you that can display verification codes, you can tap Didn't Get a Code on the sign-in screen and choose to send a code to one of your trusted phone numbers.

If you can't sign in, reset your password, or receive verification codes, you can request account recovery to regain access to your account. Account recovery might take a few days or longer, depending on the specific account information you can provide to verify your identity.

In the Security section, Click Edit. Click Turn Off two-step verification. Create new security questions and verify your date of birth. You'll get an email confirming that two-step verification for your Apple ID is off.

Obtain the verification at a trusted phone number: If a trusted device isn't available, tap “Didn't get a verification code?” then choose a phone number.

Websites usually give a recovery code to you when you enable 2FA on your account. Use your recovery code to get access to your account. If you don't have a recovery code go to the site's support and ask them to disable two factor authentication on your account for you.

Select Didn't Get a Code? on the sign-in screen. Choose to get the code sent to your trusted phone number. You'll receive a text message or phone call from Apple with your verification code. This text message might include an additional domain validation line.

To resend the verification email, sign in to your Apple ID account page. Click Resend next to the email address that you want to verify, and we'll send an email to that address.

If you didn't save your backup codes, and you've lost the phone that you use for 2-factor authentication – try calling your phone network to transfer your old number over to a new phone. You'll need a new SIM card for that, and it could take a day or two for it to activate.

What if I don't have access to my two-factor authentication? ›

If you lose access to your two-factor authentication credentials, you can use your recovery codes, or another recovery option, to regain access to your account.

Use a recovery key

If you don't have access to a trusted device or you're locked out of your Apple ID, you need to provide your recovery key to reset your password and regain access to your account.

If you can't access any trusted devices when setting up a new device for two-factor authentication, tap “Didn't get a verification code?” on the new device, then choose one of your trusted phone numbers to receive the verification code.

To fix the "Verification Required" issue, you can update or change your payment method. But sometimes, you might be unable to change your payment method. In this, you can redeem a gift card and use the balance to pay for any unpaid orders.

If you forgot your backup code and can't log in with your other two-step verification methods: You'll need to recover your account. You can do this by selecting “Recover my account with a photo ID” on the Two-Step Verification page.

If this doesn't come automatically to your Mac, make sure you're updated to El Capitan or later. You can request the verification code from Apple menu () > System Preferences > Apple ID > Password & Security > Get verification Code.
