Discord is one of the largest social apps that's entirely community-driven. Moderating growing community Discord servers can be a daunting task. Still, it's necessary to improve the quality of our social spaces on our favorite Android phones, which is why we call on the aid of handy Discord bots. Adding bots to your Discord servers reels in some fantastic benefits; these include comfier security, additional server features, and free entertainment.
And fortunately, these Discord bots require very little hands-on moderating power and don't breach Discord's terms of service. All that's needed is to correctly host and set up these Discord bots to become fully commissioned and serviced like a well-oiled machine. So we at Android Police will guide you through adding and hosting Discord bots on any server.
What is a Discord bot?
A bot is a program that simulates human activity while carrying out a specific set of commands, typically with little to no user input. In other words, they're machines designed and coded to automate a task. Most Discord developers deploy bots to fill out repetitive tasks, delegate administrative duties, or add games to increase activity within servers. These bots can keep running indefinitely until commanded to stop or get shut down. Sometimes, the presence of a Discord bot can be the difference maker from a dead server to one that's booming (with activity).
Why host a Discord bot on a server?
Discord bots appear on your Members list like other humans and become an addition to any Discord community. Discord server owners use popular websites to find Discord bots, like Top.gg or Discord Bot List, or by visiting the Discord bot's website or the developer's GitHub. Procuring these bots has many uses; these include monitoring Discord servers for bad actors, while others are for entertainment, like listening to music with a music bot in a voice channel, trading memes and anime cards or catching virtual Pokémon with Mewbot and PokéTwo.

How to enable bots on Discord servers
Your Discord server won't accept bot requests from other members unless they have Administrative or Manage Server permissions. However, say you just created a new server, you should be able to add bots already because you have Administrative privileges. If that's the case, you can skip the instructions below and move on to the next part about inviting bots. Of course, if you're looking to let other members freely add bots to your Discord server, you can check out the following steps:
- Open the Discord mobile app, then tap the Meatball menu on the left.
- Tap on Settings.
- Scroll down to the User Management section and tap Roles.
- Navigate to @everyone to continue. Note: If you only want certain users to have the power to add bots, you'll need to create your own custom role by tapping Create Role.
- Scroll down, and tap the Manage Server to toggle it on (enables). Note: When making a custom role, enable the Manage Server option before you continue. Then you can assign the new role to your selected users afterward.
- After turning on the toggle, tap Save.
How to invite bots to Discord servers
With the Manage Server setting enabled for your other members, you'll now need a way to find bots and bring them over to your server. If you're ready to invite your first bot to your Discord server, you can do the following:
- Visit the Top.gg official website, which is one of the best places to find Discord bots online.
- Scroll through or search until you find a bot you'd like to add to your server. Note: To narrow your choices and make things easier, you can search by category type and filter by selecting Discord bots.
- Open the bot's main page, then tap the Invite button.
- To add the bot, find and select your Discord server.
- After you've chosen a Discord server, tap Continue.
- Tap Authorize > Continue.
- If you've successfully added the Discord bot, an authorize message will pop up; congrats, you've added a Discord bot to your server!
How to access bots on Discord servers
Now that you've invited a bot to your Discord server, you'll need to know where to find it so you can interact with it. To access any bot you've added to your Discord server, you can check out the following steps:
- Open the Discord mobile app to your main channel.
- Tap the bot's profile icon (under the member's listing).
- Review the About Me section on the bot’s discord account to see the commands/inputs to start the bot.
- For chat commands, enter the specific command while you're in a channel. If you cannot find the list of commands, you'll have to visit the official dashboard or homepage for your bot.
How to remove bots on Discord servers
Sometimes you might want to remove a bot because you don't need it anymore, or it's not quite what you expected it to be. Regardless of why you want to get rid of a bot, it may not be entirely clear how you can go about doing this. In short, a bot is treated just like a regular user as they also appear on your Members list. To easily remove a bot from your Discord server, you can do the following:
- Open the Discord mobile app to your main channel.
- Tap the bot's profile icon (under the member's listing).
- Scroll down and tap Kick.
- Leave the reasoning blank, and tap Kick again to confirm.
- Now the bot is removed from the server, and if you change your mind later, you can always re-add the bot again later.
Experiment with Discord bots
Visiting the Top.gg website shows plenty of popular Discord bots created on this social platform for gamers. Bots help monitor Discord and add new features, whether to issue server mutes and bans or find additional avenues to lighten up the server's mood. Discord has put effort into integrating bots natively, so you don't have to learn how to configure custom commands for every new bot on Discord. Take advantage of inviting a bot to Discord; it may make your experience less cumbersome.
