Google Pay reportedly landed in Samsung’s home ground, South Korea. ETNews just revealed that some offline merchants in South Korea started using Google Pay to collect no-contact payments through the NFC (near field communication) method.
Earlier,it was confirmed that the Korean region blocking (van) was lifted in the “Google Wallet” app update that implements Google Pay. As a result, it is possible to access the service with a Korean user account, and it’s possible to register a credit card or debit card that supports Google Pay as well as a Korean menu service.

Google Pay app does not appear in the Google Play Store accessed from the Korean region, but it can be used by sideloading the app using the APK file. With the release of the van this time, offline payments in Korea have become possible, which was deactivated in previous versions.
Notably, Google Pay is offering a simple payment experience, which is easier than Samsung Pay and Apple Pay. You just need to unlock your Android device and bring it to the payment terminal without the process of running the app, no separate biometric authentication or password input process is needed.
Samsung Pay has to compete in the Android ecosystem. The share of the Samsung Galaxy series is overwhelming in the Korean Android smartphone market, but there is not much incentive for users to abandon the familiar Samsung Pay and switch to Google Pay.
An expert in the payment industry said, “In order for Google Pay and Samsung Pay to work on the same smartphone, the user must set the NFC payment priority, but Samsung Pay is set as the default for the Galaxy series.” Partnerships can also change.”
