Guide:Ultimate Ironman Walkthrough Guide To Prifddinas (1)
This page is a supplemental guide.

This guide provides a complete step-by-step walkthrough for Ultimate Ironmen to complete the Song of the Elves quest, starting from account creation. Completing this quest allows access to the city of Prifddinas which has many extremely useful features such as The Gauntlet, carnivorous chinchompas, a sawmill, shops, Zalcano, soft clay rocks, a house portal with respawn location nearby, and more. These benefits, along with the high skill requirements of the quest, make completion of Song of the Elves a significant milestone for any Ultimate Ironman account and will leave the player with a solid foundation moving forward.

Some general notes on the guide

This walkthrough serves as a guiding light for new ultimate ironman players. It will show you a quest and skilling order that minimizes wasted time and backtracking. For any new UIM player, following this guide will save you countless hours by avoiding mistakes the author learned the hard way. However, it is not without limitations. As you begin your journey, you should know that the best route for any given UIM account is unique. Each player will have different skills, experience, time, playstyle, resources (such as alts), and very importantly, goals. Throughout the guide there are many instances in which alternative options are presented, and there are countless more options that are not presented. As you go through these steps, remember that this is your account and you are welcome to deviate as you would like. The most important thing is to enjoy your account and your own journey!

With that in mind, here are some of the constraints that the guide works under, as well as some resources that might be helpful.

  • This guide avoids the use of strategies that require alternate accounts.
  • This guide avoids the use of tick manipulation strategies.
  • The main route avoids long grinds and quests not required for Song of the Elves. Many of these are presented as alternatives, such as Fishing and Runecraft early. If you are interested in potentially maxing, see What if I want to Max?
  • The guide aims to keep a clean inventory and bag so that you reach the end with the majority of your space still open for whatever you want to do next.
  • Some additional resources, such as method videos, are provided in the talk page.
  • More help can be found from the nice UIM Discord community: Ultimate Ironman Discord

NOTE: This guide will not be updated to include any methods or routing using Varlamore until the region has been fully released.

Getting started[edit | edit source]

Starting an Ultimate Ironman can be overwhelming. This section provides a detailed step-by-step path for beginning your journey.

By the end you will have many important starter quests complete, and will save many hours compared to completing them one at a time.

At the end of this section there is an overview that covers everything that was completed. This can be helpful if you are not starting the guide from the very beginning.

This section is by-far the most impactful for a new UIM player, and if you are starting out it is highly recommended to at least follow through to the end of Getting Started.

After this section, you can choose to continue following the guide or branch out as you see fit!

Finishing up Agility questing[edit | edit source]

  • Head west to the jail east of Draynor Village.
  • Pull up a timer. Set it for 60 minutes.
  • Attack a guard. Do not kill him. Lure him a short distance away from the jail and let him kill you. You can pick some nettles to die quicker. (You are "death piling" for Recruitment Drive.)
    • The death pile allows your items to remain on the ground for up to 60 minutes before despawning (Without other players being able to loot it). Use your timer to keep track of how long you have left. You should have plenty of time. The timer only runs when you are logged in.
  • After dying, return to your deathpile and pick up your last house tablet.
  • Use the teleport to house tab.
  • Go to Falador Castle and speak to Sir Amike Varze to finish Black Knights' Fortress.
  • Speak with him again to start Recruitment Drive.
  • Drop the coins.
  • Go to Falador Park and complete Recruitment Drive, sell the Initiate Sallet next time you're near a General Store.
  • Head east from the park.
  • Head north-east to the Dwarven Mine.
  • In the mine, go north, west, south, then back up north to Nurmof's Pickaxe Shop.
  • Buy a steel pickaxe from Nurmof.
  • Mine 6 clay, 4 copper, and 2 iron ore. Rocks of each type can be found south-east of the shop.
  • Exit the Dwarven Mine and north-west of Falador.
  • Speak with Doric and complete Doric's Quest.
  • Head west and die to a druid to get back to Lumbridge.
    • If at any point during this guide you think you may have wasted money on something not specifically mentioned, you should probably just walk back to your death pile and keep the coins reward. The guide is extremely tight on money, and it is very easy to run out if any extra money was spent somewhere.
  • Pick up the knife in the kitchen.
  • Collect your items from the death pile.
  • Restock on wines if you are low on food. Leave 8 slots open.
  • Buy a new Chronicle and a few charges. 3 should be fine.
  • Head east to Lumbridge Castle.
  • Cut trees and fletch the logs into 900 arrow shafts.
  • Drop the knife and steel axe.
  • Head east into Al-Kharid, then south to Shantay Pass.
  • Buy 900 feathers from Shantay.
  • Fletch 900 headless arrows to reach level 10 Fletching. Drop them afterwards.
  • Complete The Tourist Trap. Buy the required items from Shantay.
    • You should be able to tank and kill the captain with wines, but there is a safe spot if you are concerned. His max hit is 5.
    • Put both skill rewards into Agility.
  • Chronicle teleport.
  • Head north to the Grand Exchange.
  • Take the spirit tree in the north-east corner to the Gnome Stronghold.
  • Head north and speak to King Narnode. Continue and complete The Grand Tree. Use a chronicle teleport to Varrock, then use the Grand Exchange Spirit tree again to get back from Karamja.
  • Clean up your inventory:
  • Getting Started Section final status check.
    • If you did not start the guide from the beginning, this will let you know what is expected to have been completed.

Agility[edit | edit source]

Phew, that was a lot of early quests knocked out. You now have your feet on the ground and are ready to start playing the game! Which of course means running around in circles mindlessly watching numbers go up for hours.

This grind is long, but will provide cash to get your account going. This is a great option for money since you want these Agility levels for Song of the Elves anyway.

If you want a break from this grind at any point, there are several good afk options. Fishing is an easy and low effort way to progress, look at the Notable Alternatives section on maxing for more information.

If you don't want to do Tempoross, then just 2–3 trips to the Lava Maze for Steel platebodies will fund many hours of fly fishing (don't forget a Looting bag).

Another option is to progress using Guardians of the Rift. This is covered in the section in Notable Alternatives.

Though keep in mind that even if you do fish or runecraft, you will still want to get the Graceful outfit before moving on from Agility and still need level 70 Agility eventually.

  • Do Varrock Rooftop Course course until 40 Agility.
  • Buy a mithril sword from the Varrock Swordshop.
  • Home teleport
  • Get a bronze pickaxe from the tower
  • Head to Draynor Village and buy some wine, 10 should be enough.
  • Buy 5 more charges for your Chronicle from Diango.
  • Chronicle teleport.
  • Complete Priest in Peril. Mine your own rune essence,
    • Just do 3 trips for the essence.
    • Don't forget to grab a bucket during the quest.
  • Drop your fire staff, mithril sword, and extra food for weight.
  • Head into Canifis and do the Canifis Rooftop Course until 50 Agility.
    • Do not stay at the Canifis course past level 50, it isn't worth the slower xp.
    • You can wield the Wolfbane dagger to prevent yourself from attacking someone and making them a werewolf.
  • Minigame teleport to Burthorpe Games Room and buy the some of the graceful outfit from Grace in the Rogues' Den.
  • Head over to Falador and do the Falador Rooftop Course until 60 Agility.
  • Minigame teleport to Burthorpe Games Room and buy some of the graceful outfit from Grace in the Rogues' Den.
  • Head over to Seers' Village and do the Seers' Village Rooftop Course until you have 260 marks of grace (including those you have already spent on pieces).
  • Minigame teleport to Burthorpe Games Room and buy the full graceful outfit from Grace in the Rogues' Den.
  • Clean up your inventory. Drop your runes and anything else you are holding on to in your inventory other than coins.
  • Home teleport to Lumbridge and head to Shantay Pass.
  • Buy waterskins(4) and a shantay pass. Leave 8 slots open for wine.
  • Head into the desert, take the carpet to Pollnivneach, then fill your inventory with wine from the guy in the pub.
  • Take the carpet to Nardah and head west to the Agility Pyramid.
  • Do Agility Pyramid until you reach 70 Agility.
    • When you need supplies walk to Nardah, take the carpet to Pollnivneach, buy waterskins from the general store, and wines in the bar. Adjust your waterskin/wine ratio as you level up. You can fill the waterskins to 4 at the fountain in the middle of town.
      • Another option is simply buying choc-ice from Rokuh in Nardah, which weigh almost nothing and serve as both food and water.

After getting to 70 Agility you should end up with at least 1.5m. This will last a while, but you will need to make more later from Thieving. You have 2 main options for that, and which you want to do impacts your choices now.

  • If you don't mind Blackjacking, then just move on with your 1.5m. This should last until you get Rogue equipment and you can blackjack for all the extra money you need.
  • If you want to do Ardougne knights, then staying at the pyramid a bit longer until you have 2,000,000 coins makes it much more likely you will last until you can complete the Ardougne Medium diary.

If you do happen to run out of money before you unlock the thieving method you prefer, just come back to the pyramid for a bit. It doesn't take too long to get there, and you don't need a completely clean inventory.

Magic[edit | edit source]

Now it is time to work on Magic. The goal is to unlock teleports around the world so that you don't have to walk everywhere.

First you need to unlock Ali's Discount Wares. You could buy your runes at the deep wilderness rune shop for less money, but it is a risk going there. Also you want to unlock Ali for later anyways.

  • Clean out the waterskins and wines from your inventory. You should just have coins now, wearing your graceful.
  • Home Teleport. Walk to Port Sarim. Take the boat to Kourend by speaking to Veos.
  • Go to Hosidius.
  • Thieve fruit stalls until 30 Thieving. Save any strange fruit you get and use them as you go for energy.
    • Optionally go to 43 Thieving instead so you don't have to come back later. The Feud should push you to 45 so you can blackjack once you get rogues.
  • Chronicle teleport to Varrock and buy a fire staff, 200 mind and 400 air runes.
  • Home teleport.
  • Complete The Feud. Both fights can be safespotted. Buy wine for food from the bar. Look in the Discussion tab of this page if you don't know how to safespot the fights.
  • Complete the rune section of Rogue Trader.
    • Use the Runedoku plugin on Runelite for the puzzle (Plugin hub).
  • Drop your mind runes for some space.
  • Buy runes from Ali. You can open large caskets from Ali using the Runeduku plugin to get cosmic runes faster. Buy all cosmic, law, and nature runes from the chests as they cost less this way.
    • 400 law runes.
    • 1,200 Nature runes.
    • 500 Cosmic runes.
    • 500 air runes.
    • 500 Earth Runes.
    • 500 Water Runes.
  • Do Mage Training Arena for Bones to Peaches. Leave yourself 1 extra telekinetic, 1 alchemist, 1 Graveyard, and 15 Enchantment points. (You will want a mud rune later).
    • Do the enchantment room with ruby enchant when you get the level for it.
    • When you need to do the alchemist room, clan wars teleport and put your money in the bag there, then home teleport back to Mage Training Arena. Pick up your cash again once done with the room. Use low level alchemy, it is still great xp and gives the same points.
    • 201 Telekinetic points
    • 301 Alchemist points
    • 201 Graveyard points
    • 2,015 Enchantment points

This should cost around 500k, and should get you 55 Magic. If you don't get there then buy some law runes and do the telekinetic room until you get 55 Magic.

If you run out of runes for some reason, just buy more. Keep any extra law and nature runes, use up any extra cosmics.

Rune Pouch[edit | edit source]

You should obtain a rune pouch as soon as you get the required 750 total level. You do not need to go out of your way to get totals levels though as the guide will get 750 total eventually.

Not having the rune pouch may cause a few minor inconveniences since the guide steps were written before this level requirement was added. If you run into any significant space issues, please provide a short comment in the talk page, or edit the steps yourself to fix the issue.

  • Clan wars teleport and do Last Man Standing until you can purchase a rune pouch. Given the current state of Last Man Standing (Bots everywhere) you should go into each game and try to win the first fight. If you win, hide/run until there are 9 people remaining then suicide. This gives 2 points per fight you win. It is not worth trying to win the match as you will eventually run into an overpowered bot almost every game. If at any point you fight a bot, just let it kill you and report it, it isn't worth the time to fight it.
    • Even if you hate PvP, the rune pouch is an extremely important item for Ultimate Ironman that you will need eventually. The only other option for it is Slayer points boosting, which would be difficult this early in your account (You can't use the high level Slayer masters for points).
  • (Optional but recommended): Now that you have 55 Magic, you can do also do Last Man Standing for rune arrows to high level alchemy as you quest. This guide involves a lot of time walking, so this gives you something to do. How efficient doing this is depends on how many points you can get per hour. If you can get at least 15 points an hour, then this is a great way to make some extra cash and work on Magic xp (you need level 82 eventually). The guide will not be reminding you to do this, so it is on you.

Questing for Farming[edit | edit source]

The skilling break is over and it is time to head back to questing! The focus for now will be to grow your Farming level to complete Enlightened Journey, without actually having to farm anything. Additionally you will be completing a variety of basic quests to bump up your skills. Now that you have teleports and graceful, you should be much more able to handle things on your own. As such, the guide will no longer be outlining every step in explicit detail. Instead the guide will just outline how to get the items, then you can complete the quest with the help of any other guides you wish. The Quest Helper plugin on Runelite is great for this as well as the quick guides on the wiki. You will also be more responsible for keeping a clean inventory by dropping old quest items. It is best practice to not drop them until you actually need the space though, as some items are reused from previous quests.

Always check that you have all the required items for a quest before trying to complete it. Keep in mind that items that can be obtained during a quest often are not listed in the guide. If you do not have the required items/stats for a quest when the guide asks you to do it please provide feedback in Discussion at the top left of this page!

Fairy rings and more Farming[edit | edit source]

  • Teleport to Varrock, sell your staff to Zaff, then purchase 500 fire runes from Aubury.
  • Teleport home and complete Lost City.
    • If you are not 36 Woodcutting already buy a steel axe from bob and woodcut until you have it.

    • You may also need to buy some more air/law runes so pay attention to that.
  • Teleport to Ardougne and buy/steal from the baker until you have 10 cakes.
  • Drop the knife and axe from Lost City, keep the dramen staff.
  • Teleport to Lumbridge then run to Draynor Village and start Fairytale I - Growing Pains.
    • Teleport to Falador and talk to the farmer in the park. Then run south and talk to the farmer near Sarah's Farming shop. Then purchase 1 compost pack and a set of basic farming tools from Sarah along with an additional secateurs and spade. (If you have room, buy some plant cure.)
    • Run south and talk to the farmer above Port Sarim's pub. Store the basic set and cure at the leprechaun but keep a secateurs and a spade. Then head east and buy ~10 barley seeds from the stall.
    • Teleport to Camelot and run north west to the hops farming patch. Plant your barley and pay the farmer 3 compost to watch over them. Do the same in the Lumbridge hops patch (north east of Lumbridge castle). Remember to talk to the farmers to continue the quest.
    • Continue the quest guide.
    • This quest's difficulty is very random depending on the items you have to collect. Some items are easy to collect while others are harder to obtain, such as a nature talisman.
      • If you do happen to get tasked to collect a nature talisman, the most viable option is to do Enter the Abyss and kill the abyssal leechs or complete Temple of the Eye too and do Guardians of the Rift until you acquire 50 abyssal pearls from the rewards. There is a safespot for them at a specific part of the Abyss. Killing them is extremely difficult though as getting into the safespot is very hard with our current stats, and if you die there it will be difficult to get your items back. It is worthwhile to simply go off the guide path and get 43 Prayer now. Safespot blue dragons with fire strike then use the bones on the wilderness altar. Death pile your items to be safe when using the bones. This is a slow, but vastly better than wiping in the abyss. Note that you can also change your respawn location to Falador. You will also need to get some sort of prayer restoration since the Abyss drains your prayer. Starting Zogre Flesh Eaters is potential way to get this. Or just don't be unlucky next time.
    • Flinch the boss. The best spot is the small hallway before the fork to the final room. Be patient.
  • Start Fairytale II - Cure a Queen.
  • While you wait for the 5 minutes start collecting items.
    • Teleport to varrock and telegrab a gold bar from the varrock west bank.
    • Teleport to Lumbridge, grab some logs from the spawn on the roof.
    • Store your magic secateurs at the tree patch west of Lumbridge castle.
    • Make several pie dishes with dough from the Recipe for Disaster chest supplies.
    • Grab a pickaxe from the spawn in the tower.
    • Buy a tinderbox at the general store.
    • Buy 4 sapphires (cut) from the gem shop in Al-Kharid.
    • Use one of the sapphires to make a games necklace. Drop your ghostspeak amulet.
      • The guide will now assume you have a games necklace on.
    • Mine an iron ore from the mine to the north. Superheat it into a bar.
    • Mine 1 coal.
  • Head back to Martin and progress through Fairytale II - Curing a Queen until you unlock fairy rings.
    • While in the area, buy redberries from the shop in Port Sarim and cook a redberry pie.
  • Take the fairy ring to DKS.
  • Complete The Giant Dwarf.
    • Buy the ore needed from the blast furnace.
    • Remember your house is in Rimmington for teleports.
  • (OPTIONAL) With the release of The Garden of Death it is now possible to skip completing both Forgettable Tale and Garden of Tranquillity and instead complete The Garden of Death and go straight to Enlightened Journey.
  • Teleport to Camelot and harvest 2 barley from the patch. If it died, go to Lumbridge. If both of them died, replant and woodcut while watching it grow.
  • Teleport to Lumbridge, cook the barley into barley malt on the range.
  • Grab the pot off of the table and then go to the basem*nt to buy 2 buckets from the Recipe for Disaster chest. Fill the buckets with water.
  • Minigame teleport to the Blast Furnace and complete the Forgettable Tale. While waiting for the things to grow:
    • Start some supercompost by buying pineapples from the Catherby charters and composting them to the north.
    • Buy an axe and tinderbox in Lumbridge.
    • Go to Port Sarim fish store and buy/cook sardines until 22 cooking.
      • Store the farming tools for some extra space but make sure to get them back out after.
      • Use the axe and tinderbox to make a fire right outside the shop to cook on.

    • Buy a filled plant pot from the farming shop.
    • Buy some compost (If you bought the compost pack ignore)
    • Mine a pure essence.
    • Buy a pestle and mortar from the Taverley Herblore store.
    • Buy a hammer from Varrock.
    • If you are not 36 Crafting, buy, cut, and resell some sapphires and emeralds in Al-Kharid until you get 36 Crafting (You should be at it or very close already).
    • If you still have some extra time chop wood.
  • Once Forgettable Tale is complete, drop the beer, glass, stouts, and pot.
  • Complete Garden of Tranquillity.
    • Collect your supercompost from Catherby and use it to give your plants a better chance to live.
    • You can use the fairy ring code ALQ to teleport south of the Morytania's farming patch and run north.
    • Get the tools from your Leprechaun.
    • This quest is tight on inventory space. Drop the onion/cabbage/marigold seeds after you plant them, secateurs after you get the white tree, the vials, hammer, and pestle and mortar after done with the plant cure.
      • If you do not have a rune pouch yet, then you may need to plant some of your seeds earlier or juggle supplies a bit for space.
    • Before going to harvest your crops:
      • Plant all the seeds you have gotten so far in the garden.
      • Buy a candle from Catherby.
      • Get ball of wool and 3 papyrus from the Ardougne general store.
      • Get a bowl from Lumbridge kitchen.
      • Empty sacks (noted) from the farming shop south of Falador.
      • 2 Onions from Rimington, 3 redberries Port Sarim food shop.
        • have Aggie make you a yellow and red dye.
    • That should be enough time for them to grow, but if you are speedy about this, then you may have to alch for a bit at the patches.
    • While the last plants are growing, steal 10 silk from Ardougne and unnote 1 empty sack (use it on a banker).
      • After that alch any rune arrows you have left, then probably just take a break for like 10 minutes... If you really want you can chop wood, but your inventory is very full right now for the next quest.
  • Destroy the ring of charos(a). Do this AFTER you finish the quest, otherwise you'll have to pickpocket Dr Fenkenstrain for another one.
  • Drop your fire staff and buy some fire runes.
  • Drop your dramen staff.
  • Head to Entrana and complete Enlightened Journey until you need the willow branches.
    • Fill the sack with potatoes in his house.
    • You will have to leave and come back to unnote some sacks to fill with sand at the sand pit on Entrana.
      • Give him your silk before you leave though.
  • Get another dramen branch while on Entrana. You can safespot the zombies on a mushroom way to the south.
    • Get a few extra Dramen branches. 2 should be fine.
  • Teleport to Varrock fletch your dramen staff with a knife from upstairs in the general store.
  • Buy your fire staff back and drop the fire runes (Or just keep the fire runes and wear the dramen staff, but you will have to manual cast fire strike when needed).
  • Plant your willow sapling. Protect it with the apples. It is smart to plant it at Taverley for future willow log supply.
  • Clean out your inventory if you have anything. It should just be runes, coins, and the dramen staff.
  • The guide will move forward from here as the tree grows. When it does grow, complete Enlightened Journey. When you do complete the quest, also chop 10 willow logs and unlock the Balloon Transport System route to the lumberyard (Varrock).
    • If you are not 40 Firemaking, chop and burn the teak tree south of Castle Wars until you get level 40.

Kourend, upgrading the memoirs[edit | edit source]

  • Buy an adamant pickaxe in the Dwarven Mines and mine until 42 Mining.
    • You can do your preferred method of mining, Motherlode Mine is right there. Keep the pickaxe afterwards.
  • Buy a normal bow and some bronze arrows from the range shop in Varrock.
  • Get a rope from Ned in Draynor Village.
  • Head to Port Sarim, then go to Veos and complete Client of Kourend. Wear the Kharedst's memoirs and drop the chronicle.
    • While in Shayzien buy a stew from the pub.
    • Use the lamps on Hunter.
  • Complete the Queen of Thieves.
    • After doing Queen of Thieves you have a good teleport back to Kourend using the memoirs. Teleport to Ardougne and get some cakes for the upcoming fights.
  • Complete Depths of Despair.
  • Complete Ascent of Arceuus.
  • Complete Tale of the Righteous.
    • You might want to get a Superantipoison from north of Castle wars for this quest.
    • Talk to the mountain guide while you are at Mount Quidamortem to unlock the travel option back up there
  • Complete The Forsaken Tower.
    • Buy a bronze axe from Shazien General Store.
    • Buy some food from Shazien bar.
    • Use a fairy ring to get to Konar (CIR) and buy yourself a facemask.
  • Add all the pages to the Kharedst's memoirs so the book has extra charges.
  • Fletch a dramen branch if you don't have a staff already.
  • Get some cakes for food. 10 cakes should be enough.
  • Go to fairy ring code BKQ and safespot tree spirits for an adamant axe (1/16).
    • If you get a mithril axe you could use that instead (1/6.4).
    • If you get a lucky rune axe (1/32) you can save it and use it when you get the level. It probably isn't worth grinding out after getting an adamant axe though.
    • Make sure you have finished Enlightened Journey and unlocked the Varrock flight path before getting an axe.
  • Move your house to Taverley.

Construction[edit | edit source]

Now that Enlightened Journey has been completed, and you have a consistent teleport to Hosidius, it is time for Construction. You should have 690-700 total level if you strictly followed the guide. You will be doing Mahogany Homes using Oak planks.

If you do not have the 750 total just yet, then skip ahead and get 45 Thieving at fruit stalls, then 50 Thieving at blackjacking. Also, you can cut and burn logs until 50 Firemaking now rather than after construction. If you are still short, then you could buy a pickaxe and start mining. Really any kind of skilling you want to do works, just get 750 total and a rune pouch.

You will have to do a few contracts with normal planks to get 20 Construction.

Notes

Your Hosidius teleport is the memoirs. Refill it with runes from the Arceuus general store when it is getting low. Take the boat by Veos to Land's End.

If you mess up and run out of charges, use the Tithe Farm minigame teleport to get back to the area. (You need to have entered the minigame once to use the teleport, which requires 34 farming)

You can get 4 steel bars if you find that your minigame teleport isn't up in time.

If you need you can get to the Blast Furnace by taking the minecart at the Grand Exchange.

Do not get a plank sack as by the time you have the points you will be close to being done anyways. Save the points for later.

  • Do Mahogany homes until 50 Construction.
  • Teleport to Lumbridge and get a knife and a bucket from the Recipe for Disaster chest.
  • Teleport to Camelot. Use your knife on an evergreen tree to the east.
  • Chop an oak log.
  • Chop a maple log by Seers bank.
  • Get pestle and mortar from the herblore shop in Taverley.
  • Go to Mage Training Arena and buy a mud rune with your extra points.
  • Take the glider to the Grand Tree and complete The Eyes of Glouphrie. Nightmare zone teleport to Hazelmere.
  • Make the crystal saw and drop your other saw.

Renovating your home[edit | edit source]

It is time to build out your house, this will provide you with a number of useful teleports, a way to store your graceful, easy prayer restore, and an easy way to get all basic tools.

Ava's and Ranged Training[edit | edit source]

The next goal will be to unlock the Ava's accumulator and get your Ranged level up. This will allow you to effectively train Prayer, and combat in general.

Also by this point in the guide you have already obtained most basic tools many times, so the guide will just say to "Get a hammer" rather than exactly where to get it.

Also remember your house has most basic tools (no pestle and mortar though).

Initial Ranged levels and Rogue Outfit[edit | edit source]

  • Get 60 Woodcutting so you can buy a mithril axe later, as well as take advantage of having a higher level axe on you. Use a method you prefer, but 2-ticking teaks would be the fastest.
    • Also get 50 Firemaking from burning logs.
    • If you would like to keep doing Construction for this xp you can. If you need more money go a bit further in the guide and get the Rogue outfit and blackjack for it. If you don't want to blackjack, then just hold off on the Construction until later and do teaks. Going back to Agility pyramid is an option, but is technically less efficient.
      • Keep in mind the reason the guide doesn't just rush 70 Construction is so that you can farm during the grind later on. If you do it now you will miss out on a lot of easy herb runs.
    • You could also just skip this and get a mithril axe from tree spirits later. This is a bit less efficient, but isn't a huge deal if you want to keep moving.
  • Do fruit stalls until 45 Thieving, then blackjack to 50.
    • You could also quest for some xp, but it isn't as important by this point.
    • If you don't want to blackjack, you can do whatever other methods you want.
  • Move your house to Taverley, if you didn't move it for construction earlier.
  • Get a dwarven rock cake.
  • Do the Rogues' Den minigame for the full Rogue outfit. Steps are below.
    • Since you can't bring anything into the minigame, death pile in Lumbridge (or falador if your respawn is there. You can die to the white nights there), then Burthorpe minigame teleport to the area.
    • Do the Rogues' Den minigame until you get close to your one-hour timer, then reset the death pile. If you get a rogue piece, walk to your house in Taverley and store it.
  • Move your house to Yanille when you have the full set.
  • If for any reason you run out of gold during the guide, blackjack or thieve knights for the money you need.
  • Get a kitten from Gertrude and grow it as you move forward. Once it grows put it in your house until needed.
  • Get a tinderbox.
  • Buy 300 mind runes, 600 air runes, and 200 fire runes.
  • Teleport to Ardougne and steal from the bakery stall until you get a bread and 10 cakes. Do not eat the bread for food, it is a quest item.
  • Complete Merlin's Crystal.
    • Pest Control minigame teleport gets you to the Port Sarim area.
  • Complete Holy Grail.
    • Drop the Excalibur and get it again.
    • Drop your adamant axe. If you have a mithril axe, put it on a table and get it again.
      • You can death pile in Lumbridge basem*nt if you want to play this safe instead of putting the items on the table. Don't forget to put your kitten/cat on your POH before you do this.
    • Get a dramen branch as you leave Entrana and turn it into a staff with a knife.
  • Get a bucket of water.
  • Collect 10 bones from killing anything. Killing chickens in Lumbridge is pretty fast.
  • Complete Demon Slayer.
    • You will have to make a second trip for bones.
    • Remember you can now fairy ring teleport to the Wizards' Tower (DIS) and if Temple of the Eye is completed, you can also Guardians of the Rift minigame teleport there as well.
    • Take the Salve Graveyard teleport in your house to get to a fairy ring.
  • Get:
  • Complete The Golem.
  • Get:
  • Complete Shadow of the Storm.
    • Flinch the boss with the rune longsword, but deal the final blow with Darklight (you must stand next to him as you kill him).
    • Use the experience reward on Ranged.
  • Clean out your inventory of the quest items. Alch/sell the rune longsword.
  • Complete Recipe for Disaster/Freeing Evil Dave. If your cat is not grown, do this when it does grow.
    • You can complete Ratcatchers for a wily cat, if you would like a higher success rate whilst catching rats.
  • Go to Varrock.
  • Minigame teleport to Fishing Trawler.
  • Get some swamp tar from Lumbridge swamp.
  • Smelt your bucket of sand and soda ash into a molten glass. Drop the bucket.
  • Complete the Alfred Grimhand's Barcrawl miniquest.
  • Fill your inventory with cakes.
  • Complete Horror from the Deep (fairy ring ALP to lighthouse).
    • The first dagannoth can be safespotted in the north east corner on the small spike.
    • Teleport out after you finish off the first dagannoth and fill your inventory with cakes if needed.
    • Hide from the Dagannoth mother behind a spike to the north east. As she changes colours use your blast spells on her 1 time then run back behind the spike. Heal to full with cakes if she hits you, then repeat.

Ava's and Fossil Island[edit | edit source]

Ammonite Crabs[edit | edit source]

It is time to train ranged at ammonite crabs. If you already have Protect from Melee then it would technically be more optimal to skip this combat and prayer training to just continue questing.

You would then come back for 60 Ranged after you have stockpiled seeds from Master Farmers, which would let you do herb runs during this grind.

  • Put your graceful outfit in your costume room.
  • Buy a studded body and studded chaps from Horvik.
  • Buy a coif, green d'hide chaps, and green d'hide vambs from the Champions' Guild shop.
  • Get an Ava's Attractor from Ava if you don't still have it.
  • Buy a Dorgeshuun crossbow and 5,000 bone bolts to start out. Get more later if needed, but that will likely be enough.
    • (Optional) If you are good at Last Man Standing (~20+ points an hour) then you can save a bit of time by buying adamant arrows and using a maple shortbow.
  • Buy a lot of hops seeds from Olivia in Draynor Village. You could also thieve them from Master farmers if you want to go out of your way for that. Keep in mind you don't want to clog up your inventory with seeds until after prayer, so don't go too crazy at master farmers yet.
    • How many you get will depend on how actively you think you will do birdhouse runs.
  • Get a hammer and chisel.
  • Buy 4 iron ore and 8 coal at the Blast Furnace, then smith 4 steel bars.
  • Make 4 clockwork in your house.
    • If you didn't make a crafting bench earlier, make one now.
  • Buy an axe or get one from tree spirits.
  • Chop some logs and oak logs for birdhouses.
  • Go to Fossil Island and kill ammonite crabs for range xp. Your range gear is basic, but since the crabs have no defence it doesn't really matter.
    • Do birdhouse runs whenever you can. You will have to manage getting higher level logs as needed (You will need to teleport out and come back).
      • When you need higher crafting you can make molten glass in Port Phasmatys. You can death storage at Volcanic mine once you have some numulite. 61 Crafting is a good goal for Lunar Diplomacy later on.
      • You can make some digsite pendants if you want. Rubies can be bought in Ardougne.
      • You can farm any seeds you want as you get them. You will have to balance what seeds you keep vs how many spaces you leave open.
        • If you don't want to drop some higher level seeds, then you could do Tithe Farm now so you can use them. Also it is notable to keep in mind that you will be doing more birdhouses a bit later when you train melee at ammonite crabs. This may influence how much farming you want to do right now.
    • If you want to put in extra effort, you can actually alch while killing the crabs for very efficient magic xp.
    • At level 40 wear your green dhide chaps and vambs.
    • At level 50 go upgrade your Avas to an Ava's accumulator.
    • Setup Runelite to notify you on any fossil drops. When you fill up on fossils put them in the fossil storage on the north side of the island. Also pick up enough calcite and pyrophosphate for any fossils you want to use for prayer.
  • Do this until level 60 Ranged as that is required for quests later.
    • If you would like, you are more than welcome to continue training here longer. Going until 70 range would be a good goal. The extra fossil drops will help you with early herblore and prayer experience, as well as provide more time to do birdhouse runs.

It is not worth doing Slayer with range right now as the experience will just not be fast enough to warrant it over doing melee Slayer later.

Getting 60 range gives you good damage against the green dragons, but you don't want to get much higher than this because you can train better using Carnivorous chinchompas later.

Prayer[edit | edit source]

It is time to train Prayer finally! You will be killing green dragons and using the bones on the wilderness Chaos altar.

If you decided to get 43 prayer at the start of your account then you could optionally skip this section. Just make sure to have 45 prayer by the end of the guide for the Fragment of Seren fight (You want to have Mystic Might).

Clean up your inventory. Drop your water runes, book, dramen staff, games necklace, and ring of dueling. Also drop your birdhouse supplies and any seeds you are not keeping.

  • Get a dwarven rock cake and cool it.
  • Buy 500 fire runes, then drop the fire staff (Not technically needed, but makes things a bit simpler).
  • Do Last Man Standing until you have a stockpile of points. 20 points should be fine for now and you can do more as needed.
  • Store all but 200,000 coins in the coffer by Last Man Standing. This prevents you from losing all your money to a disconnection. Get more money out as needed.

Your inventory should look like this with nothing equipped.

Guide:Ultimate Ironman Walkthrough Guide To Prifddinas (134)Guide:Ultimate Ironman Walkthrough Guide To Prifddinas (135)Guide:Ultimate Ironman Walkthrough Guide To Prifddinas (136)Guide:Ultimate Ironman Walkthrough Guide To Prifddinas (137)
Guide:Ultimate Ironman Walkthrough Guide To Prifddinas (138)Guide:Ultimate Ironman Walkthrough Guide To Prifddinas (139)Guide:Ultimate Ironman Walkthrough Guide To Prifddinas (140)

The full method is on the Ultimate Ironman Guide/Prayer. It is the one about killing green dragons without the wilderness diary and involves using range with a maple shortbow.

  • Do this method until at least 45 Prayer, but you could go higher.
    • If you would like, you could also do the blue dragons method mentioned on the page, but the rune cost is rather significant for this stage in your account, and is slower Prayer experience (unless you die a lot at green dragons).
    • This method does not require that many Last Man Standing points, but if you really really don't want to do Last Man Standing then you could use a Dorgeshuun crossbow instead. This guide will not outline an exact method for this, but trust that it is a lot more clunky to setup than using the adamant arrow method (You need a light source, and buying bolts requires you to have your cash stack). Also, the maple shortbow with adamant arrows does more dps against the green dragons anyways.
    • This guide intentially avoids completing Dragon Slayer I so that you cannot get dragon tasks later. Do not start or complete it to use the green dhide body, it is only a minor upgrade.
    • It is a good idea to get some blighted manta rays from the Last Man Standing Shop. Dying at the altar with your bones really sets you back, and the looting bag gives you plenty of space.
    • You only need 45 Prayer since killing the dragons is rather slow with only 60 Ranged. You can come back later with a higher range level, or just use other methods.
    • Do not forget your fossils from before. You should turn them in for Herblore experience lamps, but if you happen to have extras then you can use them for Prayer experience.

Herblore Quests[edit | edit source]

It is time to keep questing to get past the early Herblore levels without having to make potions.

Also by this point the guide is going to assume you can figure out how to get required quest items on your own. The process is the same as you have been doing this whole guide.

Herblore quests[edit | edit source]

  • Drop or table all your ranging gear.
  • Get a dramen staff again.
  • Get your graceful outfit, staff of fire, mind and water runes back.
  • Also make a new ring of dueling and games necklace. Ready to quest again!
  • You can go back to alchemzing if you want. Inventory is tight for Death Plateau though so maybe wait until after that.
  • The guide assumes you restore your prayer after every quest.
  • Get a fly fishing rod and some bait/feathers. Fly fish in Barbarian Village and cook the trout until you have 10 trout. Drop the rod and feathers. Alternatively, if you have access to Warriors' Guild, you can buy 10 cooked trouts there.
  • Get some iron ore from the Blast Furnace and make an iron bar. Superheat if you have nature runes.
  • Buy 10 bread from the baker in Ardougne.
  • Buy a Premade blurb' sp from the Gnome Stronghold.
  • Complete Death Plateau.
    • Drop your mind and water runes for a bit when you need the extra space.
  • Get a few cakes for food to be safe for the next quest.
  • Complete Troll Stronghold.
  • Get:
  • Take fairy ring BIP, then head to Morton and complete Shades of Mort'ton.
    • Remember you can get the tarromins at the start of the quest from searching the table.
    • Pray melee helps here, hope people on world 377 can help you with the temple.
  • Clean up your inventory again, get a few more cakes if needed.
  • Do Jungle Potion. (Fairy ring code CKR.)
    • Safespot a jogre while you are there for the diary.
  • Get a few more cakes if needed, then buy 100 chaos runes.
  • Complete Zogre Flesh Eaters. Crumble Undead the boss and enemy.
  • Complete the Karamja easy diary. Use the lamp on Herblore.
  • You should now have at least 30 Herblore without having to do any actual training. This is a big milestone, as you can now put a lot more choice rewards into it. If you have been very unlucky on random event experience rewards and are not 30 Herblore, then you may need to kill a few chaos druids, cave bugs, or other monsters to make potions. You can't be more than ~1,000 experience short though if you did all the right experience choice and quests.
  • Complete the Ardougne easy diary and use the lamp on Herblore.
  • Complete Shilo Village.
  • Complete One Small Favour (use both lamps on Herblore).
    • If you get a ranarr weed while getting the other herbs, keep it.
  • Complete Eadgar's Ruse.
  • Complete My Arm's Big Adventure.
  • (Optional) Get 61 Crafting. Use the crafting guide if you have not already. If your inventory is full, you can death storage at the Nightmare boss.
    • This is to set yourself up for Lunar Diplomacy, as well as get crafting for some useful unlocks later on. The guide assumes you do this, but it isn't strictly needed.
  • (Optional), If you want to thieve Ardougne knights rather than blackjack, you can go out of your way to complete the Ardougne medium diary now.

Song of the Elves skill requirements[edit | edit source]

You are now ready to get on the skilling grind! There are a few quests left before Song of the Elves itself, but all of them have reasons to wait until after the skilling grinds are done.

Song of the Elves Requires:

Herblore[edit | edit source]

Herblore is the slowest and most complicated skill as an Ultimate Ironman, and will be the primary barrier for completion of Song of the Elves.

The general idea for your herblore training will be to obtain a large number of herb seeds, which can then be farmed for herbs to make potions.

There are 3 main options to obtain the seeds and herbs needed. The first is to utilise Skilling methods with farming contracts and Master Farmers. The second is to utilize combat methods with Slayer and bossing.

The skilling methods are the most direct path to complete Song of the Elves and so will be the default method recommended by the guide.

Details about the Slayer route can be found in the Notable Alternatives section, which also goes over the pros and cons of each a bit more.

It should be noted that going for the Slayer route will be very slow herblore experience, but will train other skills on the way.

Additionally, if you go the skilling route, you do not have to do farming contracts. You could just camp master farmers longer instead for less effort but more overall time.

The final method is to simply gain most of your required experience from choice and quest rewards. There is a section on that as well with some ideas.

Skilling route, Getting set up:

  • Get 65/82/85 Farming at Tithe farm first.
  • Clean out your inventory to just your rune pouch (air, earth, law), staff of fire, water runes, and coins.
  • Get 1020 noted pineapples from Brimhaven.
    • Buy them at charters, note at the farming patch.
  • Buy a seed box from Tithe Farm.
  • Get a Kharedst's memoirs again and wear it if you don't have it. This will be your Hosidius teleport for Farming if you are blackjacking.
  • Get a rune pickaxe from a shop.
  • Mine 1,700 volcanic ash. Once done you can alch the pickaxe.
  • Go to each compost bin around the world you have access to and fill them with pineapples. When they are done you can come back to harvest them.
    • Use the volcanic ash on the bin before harvesting the compost.
    • You will want to get moving on this even though you don't have herb seeds yet so that you can clear up the 2 inventory slots for pineapples and volcanic ash.
    • Keep 15 inventory slots open until you are done making compost.
  • Put away your graceful, get out your rogues set.
  • Move your house to Pollnivneach if you plan to blackjack, otherwise put it in Hosidius.
  • Drop your water runes (They won't be needed since you have an Ardougne portal in your house).
  • Go to the Farming Guild.

Storing up herb seeds:

At this point you will be working to stock up on a large amount of herb seeds by completing medium level Farming contracts and thieving Master Farmers.

This section is going to assume you have a basic understanding of how contracts work, if you don't know how they work read the page on them or watch a guide.

This is an example inventory setup for medium contracts. This gives you every seed that the contract could assign except white lilies as well as all the other seeds you want to keep. If you do manage to get some white lilies from Hespori add them to your setup.

Seeds in the seed box: maple, yew, magic, potato cactus, cactus, poison ivy.

You are not keeping Guam, Marrentill, tarromin, dwarf weed or torstol seeds.

Pre-plant: watermelon, snape grass, cactus, whiteberries, maple tree, irit.

  • If you have white lillies pre-plant those, otherwise farm limpwurt roots with that patch.
  • If you get a white lilly contract, downgrade it to an easy one and do that instead. Most of the seeds for easy contracts can be obtained from master farmers fairly commonly.
  • You can do some birdhouse runs to get the basic tree seeds, or just downgrade them when you get them (until you get some seeds from contracts).
  • Any other seeds you wish to keep can be put in the looting bag to be used later.
  • Once you get a Hespori seed plant it but don't kill it unless you have another hespori seed to plant afterwards.

Thieving:

While your crops are growing, the most efficient thing you can do is Thieving. When you start out, it is only recommended to pickpocket master farmers the minimum amount required to maintain contracts.

Ultimate Ironman Guide/Thieving

  • Instead of doing master farmers right away, blackjack or thieve Ardougne knights until you have around 2,000,000 coins. That gives 500,000 for Smithing, 750,000 for Construction, then 750,000 for anything else like runes and death storage fees.
  • If you want to get no-fail master farmers, the thieving cape is easier to obtain than completing the Ardougne hard diary since it has high requirements. If you wish to avoid post-99 experience though you could go out of your way for the diary.
  • Once you reach your goal level (after acquiring ~2,000,000 coins or a specific level you want), you can start on master farmers.
    • Draynor Village is a good place to thieve master farmers as you can buy wines at the shop there. Your Draynor Manor teleport will get you close. There are plenty of other location options though.
  • Once you have all the herb seeds needed, clean up your inventory and move on to the other skills. Just keep your seed box on you with the seeds you are planning to farm, then bag the noted herbs.
  • Farm limpwurt roots and white berries to match your kwuarms and cadantines. Also get 20 extra limpwurt roots for Temple of Ikov.
  • At level 78 you unlock Dorgesh-Kaan Rich Chests. This is a very good alternative to blackjacking for fast experience after you get the money you need.
    • With more effort, you can alch and cut the loot from the chests for very efficient money and Magic/Crafting experience. While small, this would add up significantly if you are going to 99.

If you need to get something out of your looting bag, you can die to Hespori or deathpile.

70 Herblore requires ~740,000 total experience. Here are some rough experience estimates per seed, assuming 8 herbs per seed. This is not going to be perfect, but should get you in the ballpark.

Important: You will need a cadantine seed for Song of the Elves, so hold on to at least 1!

Using your herbs:

Rather than outline how to use all the herbs here, the Ultimate Ironman Guide/Herblore has a great list of options.

When you are done farming herbs, leave yourself with 2 grown guam patches, 1 marrentil patch, and 1 harrlander patch. This will make getting guthix rests for Seren easy later on.

Choice Experience and Quests:

One way to drastically speed up your herblore training is to complete the many quests and other sources of choice experience still available to you.

Completing all of these quests, plus some achievement diaries and fossils will greatly reduce the amount of traditional herblore training needed to reach level 70.

It should be noted that a huge chunk of this come from completing Legends' Quest, which requires Dragon Slayer I to be completed. This is notable because starting Dragon Slayer I will unlock the ability to get dragon slayer tasks.

Getting dragon slayer tasks is undesirable for early slayer, so it is recommended to get through early point boosting before completing Dragon Slayer I. Read about this more in the slayer section near the bottom of this page.

Farming[edit | edit source]

Farming is pretty straightforward.

  • Do Tithe Farm until level 65. Then medium contracts and birdhouses will get you to at least 70.
    • If you are not 34 Farming, buy some plants in Falador and use them in your house to knock out the last bit of xp to get 34.
    • Going all the way to 85 Farming at Tithe Farm is an option as it unlocks hard contracts at the Farming guild. This will also increase the loot from master farmers. You will also get a decent amount of herbs from boxes. This is a tradeoff option though as training farming later with tree seeds is much easier than Tithe Farm.
    • A compromise would be to get 82 farming, and use garden pies from the cooking guild to boost to do hard contracts. You will have to wear a chef's hat to get into the cooking guild. You can store a chef's hat in the STASH unit outside of the clothes store at Varrock center.

Smithing[edit | edit source]

Smithing is straightforward. Ultimate Ironman Guide/Smithing

  • Do the Giants' Foundry minigame until level 60. You will need to death storage somewhere.
  • At 60 Smithing, you can do Blast Furnace without the extra fee and make platebodies until 70 Smithing, or continue doing Giants' Foundry to 70.

If you did a lot of thieving (for example went to 99) and have extra money you could buy Gold ore and Superheat Item it with Goldsmith gauntlets. This method is very fast but extremely expensive.

You will need to knock out 50 mining first for Ice gloves.

Construction[edit | edit source]

Methods:

  • The default method for Construction is to just do Mahogany Homes oaks until 70 just like before. This is estimated to cost around 750,000 coins. It wouldn't be a bad idea to obtain a Ring of the elements from Guardians of the Rift before doing this as it allows you to teleport very close to the Lumber Yard which greatly increases your XP per hour.
  • The second method would be to do Tempoross for fishing XP, then use the noted planks at Mahogany Homes. This is basically the better version of doing Wintertodt as fishing is actually useful later on.
  • Finally you could do solo Wintertodt to 70. This isn't a bad idea if you already have seeds to farm during the grind.

Keep in mind that getting 70 Construction allows you to build the stamina pool in your house, but you would have to Theatre of Blood boost to get them early.

You can farm while doing Construction as it only really costs 2 inventory slots (seed box, looting bag), which is not as big of a deal once you get a plank sack.

Mining[edit | edit source]

Mining is again pretty straightforward. You will buy a rune pickaxe from a shop and do your preferred Mining method to level 70.

Hunter[edit | edit source]

Hunter is again pretty straightforward.

Post 70 Hunter should be done at the red chins after you finish Song of the Elves and Monkey Madness II, when you are ready to use them to train ranged.

Do not plan to get a glory from Hunter, just do Crafting. This is just general advice really, but finding dragon implings is a long and tedious process that just isn't worth it.

Woodcutting[edit | edit source]

Woodcutting is yet again very straightforward. Just chop wood with your preferred method.

  • Buy a rune axe from the woodcutting guild when you get the level
  • It is recommended to actually get 75 woodcutting rather than 70. This will solve your magic log problem easily for Mourning's End Part I, and Desert Treasure I, as well as give access to magic logs forever on your account.

You could opt to do Wintertodt until 75 Firemaking as that is the highest quest requirement (after getting 70 Woodcutting for better log drops) and see if you get lucky with 13 magic logs, but it is unlikely in that short amount of time. Do not do Nature implings as it takes a long time with almost no xp gains.

Magic[edit | edit source]

The guide calls for 82 by the time you go for Song of the Elves. If you don't end up with 82 by the time you are done with the other skilling grinds here are some ideas. These are especially helpful for those that didn't alch rune arrows.

Keep in mind that Thieving or Guardians of the Rift are both great ways to get runes or money for the needed Magic level.

However, if you wish to take on the Fragment of Seren with a lower magic level, it is possible to do so if you utilize nightshade (the Farming variant, which is stackable) rather than cave nightshade (from the Skavid caves, which is unstackable), and execute the fight well.

  • A very fast method is to do the Alchemy room in Mage Training arena. When done properly you can get around 140,000 experience per hour there.
  • You can start on the Slayer section at the end of the guide to unlock dust devils then start bursting slayer tasks. This would be a good activity to do while farming herb seeds.
  • If you have a lot of extra money you could burst Skeleton monkeys.
  • If you have a lot of afk time you could do Nightmare Zone with Fire Strike. This is a slow but easy and cost effective method. Mage Void is a good choice for this.
  • You can alch Volcanic ash while going about your travels.
  • Just attempt the fight with Iban Blast or burst spells rather than blitz. The fight is doable with a lower magic level, but the margin for error is a lot lower. If you have another account available it would be a good idea to practice the fight first if doing this.
  • Guide for lower gear setup: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRZVxU-umX8
  • Arceuus Library is a free magic training method which can get you somewhere between 80,000 to 130,000 experience per hour depending on your magic level.

Finishing up[edit | edit source]

Once you have all your skills lined out, it is time to finish everything up. Now that you have a supply of Prayer potions and Super restores, these quests are much easier.

  • (Optional) Go out of your way a bit to complete all the Recipe for Disaster subquests except Sir Amik Varze and King Awowogei.
  • (Optional) Complete Monkey Madness I for a large amount of combat experience.
    • You could even go out of your way to get 70 cooking and do the monkey section of Recipe for Disaster right after Monkey Madness, as it is much easier to do them together. Additionally this makes getting a dragon scimitar much easier later on if you are not getting one now.
  • Complete Temple of Ikov.
  • Complete Desert Treasure I.
    • Chop the magic logs or get them from Wintertodt.
    • Do not buy an ancient staff.
    • You can use the diamonds on the pyramid as you get them, you don't have to get all 4 first.
  • Complete Underground Pass.
    • High alch Iban's staff for 25,500 coins.
    • Alternatively, spend 200,000 coins to upgrade the staff and complete the medium Ardougne task. If you destroy the staff, you will have to pay 200,000 coins to re-buy it and then another 200,000 coins to upgrade. The upgraded staff high-level alchemizes for 51,000 coins.
  • Complete Regicide.
  • Complete Watchtower.
  • Complete Roving Elves.
    • Make some rings of recoil and make an amulet of strength for the boss.
    • Also buy a Goblin paint cannon to make the fight easier.
    • Buy some Karambwans from Brimhaven for food.
    • Flinch the Moss Guardian if needed.
    • If you plan to use range for the combat sections in Song of the Elves then make sure to pick the bow. Also you will need to get 70 range at ammonite crabs to use it. Don't waste bow charges as it doesn't have that many, and the bow is very expensive to recharge.
    • If you have not finished other preparations for Song of the Elves and want to use the bow, keep in mind that once you get it you will have to hold on to it until you are finished preparing. It is untradeable as a bow so you can't bag it, and recharging it from a seed costs 750,000 coins. If you want to finish Mourning's End Part II early for the diary or Guardians of the Rift, consider just using the Dragon Scimitar for Song of the Elves instead of the bow.

Fragment of Seren[edit | edit source]

You are almost there, only the fight remains!

Fighting the Fragment of Seren boss is either a struggle, or fairly easy, depending on how prepared you are.

The recommended method is to use phoenix necklaces with cave nightshade. Together these can negate the damage from the bosses major attack that deals almost all of your health in damage.

With the recommended stats and setup, this should be very doable.

Iban Blast Setup overview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRZVxU-umX8

Getting set up.

This method is the standard way to get set up for the fight using Cave nightshade. If you are lower than the recommended stats (for example, do not have Ice Blitz and Blood Blitz), then you should consider using the stackable Nightshade rather than Cave nightshade. This will allow you to bring in more phoenix necklaces and more super restores. The most important aspect to completing the fight with lower stats is to ensure that you kill the healing beams as fast as possible or they can out heal most of your damage. You can obtain belladonna seeds from nature implings, Master Farmers, Farming contracts, or Slayer.

(Optional): You can deathpile before heading to the fight to save 2 inventory slots from the looting Bag and seed box. If you want to do this get an extra phoenix necklace to pair with your extra nightshade, and use an extra super restore. You will need to juggle super restores on a table before you death pile during the final steps here.

  • Buy a maple shortbow and some arrows in Varrock. You could use knives instead but the shorter range makes it more difficult.
  • Get your noted super restores out of your bag if you don't have them.
  • Bag anything that isn't needed for the fight.
  • wear a fire staff.
    • You could go for a water staff, but it doesn't really matter since it won't save an inventory slot.
  • Start out by making a Guthix rest with the herbs you left planted from farming. If you forgot to do this, then you could farm them now, or just use a karambwan/pineapple pizza.
  • Get a candle from Catherby and light it.
  • Buy a lockpick from Burthope.
  • Thieve Dorgesh Kaan rich chests until you get 9 uncut diamonds and a sapphire.
  • Make 9 phoenix necklaces.
  • Make an amulet of magic and equip it.
  • Get an empty god book from the lighthouse and equip it.
  • Put up your graceful outfit.
  • Get your Mage Arena cape out of your house and equip it.
  • If you have a stored mystic robes set in your house, get those or buy a full set at the Wizards' Guild.
    • You could optionally go buy rune gloves for a slight upgrade.
  • Buy 700 blood, death, and water runes. This is more than you should need, but it is best to be safe.
  • Clear out your rune pouch of other runes and put the deaths, bloods, and waters in it for space. If you have a lot of law runes, you can put most of them in your bag.
  • Collect 10 cave nightshade. You will need to reobtain the skavid map.
    • Practice eating a few nightshade to get used to it. Eating a nightshade is a right click option with a text box!
    • The extra nightshade is there in case you mess up and need 1 more.
  • Drop the candle.
  • Ring of dueling to the Emir's Arena, go south into the desert all the way to the ancients pyramid. You can take the boat to Tempoross to get there faster.
  • Change to the ancient spellbook.
  • You could buy an ancient staff from Elbis to replace your fire staff. Keep in mind though that the ancient staff can only be obtained once this way and you should be manual casting in the fight anyway to control which spell you use.
  • Ring of dueling to Clan Wars and restore your stats. Then head to Edgeville.
  • Unnote 3 super restores and bag any extra noted restores you have.
    • You will need to drop something on the ground and return for it after you bag them.
  • Minigame teleport to the Fishing Trawler. Take the charter ship to Port Tyras and walk to the boss room.

The fight

A video of this method can be found in the Discussions tab of the page.

At the start of the fight, let Seren take you down to ~30–40% of your HP. Activate Protect from Missiles after.

Try to stay at around 20% of your max HP + 10 HP during the fight. At 99 HP this would mean staying at around 30 HP. The phoenix necklace breaks if you drop down below 20% of your max HP, and a cave nightshade deals up to 15 damage when eaten.

Use Blood Blitz whenever you want your HP to go up, and the non-blood spell whenever you want it to go down. Manual cast the spells to avoid wasting DPS.

If you happen to have an alternate account with Song of the Elves completed, it is recommended to try this method on that account first as practice. The boss can be refought in Prifddinas.

Keep in mind prayer might be a bit limited, especially if you only got level 45. You might have to prayer flick to get through the whole fight.

More info about the Fragment of Seren's mechanics can be found here.

Notable Alternatives[edit | edit source]

What if I want to MAX?[edit | edit source]

By far the most popular question for this guide has been "What if I actually am interested in maxing, what should I change?".

This section will outline some variations you can make to the main guide path to make it a bit more macro efficient.

What is actually inefficient about the main guide?

Before getting too deep into the weeds, we should address what inefficient items are there to improve in the first place. This is easy to overlook as the main guide is actually very tight, so modifying it doesn't save as much as you would think. The majority of the guide is just doing quests to establish a baseline foundation for your account, and regardless of how many hours you spend fishing, woodcutting, or some other activity, those quests still take about the same amount of time. This is especially true if you are wishing to avoid lots of post-99 Thieving experience, as then you will be aiming to complete the Ardougne hard diary before stocking up on seeds at Master Farmers. That diary has many high requirements and one of them is completing Mourning's End Part II, a quest at the end of the main guide anyway. Even if you are ok with doing post-99 Thieving xp to skip the diary, then you would still want to get most of these quests done first anyway so that you have a cleaner inventory while questing.

So what CAN be improved?

  • Using Blackjacking for all of the main money making rather than getting 1.5m at Agility Pyramid. Thieving is technically a bit more macro efficient.
  • Utilizing Barbarian fishing for early Agility training rather than rooftop courses (also trains Strength).
  • Obtaining 50 Construction and flushed out Portal chambers earlier in the account for better teleports while early questing.
  • Slight route improvements could be made if the guide required players to get 43 Prayer at the start, but not by a whole lot.
  • Guardians of the Rift early is a good idea.

This list might look shorter than expected, but realistically there isn't much else that needs to be changed within the scope and restrictions of this guide. Notably Wintertodt early would only be recommended if you have an alt to dolo with, and this guide doesn't use any alting methods. This is discussed further in its own notable alternatives section. With this in mind, even if you are interested in maxing eventually you can follow most of the guide and be perfectly fine.

Getting started and Tempoross

This will outline what changes should be made to the original guide path that would improve some macro efficiency. This mostly centers around training Fishing early in the account. The main guide avoids training Fishing extensively because it isn't a required skill for Song of the Elves, however if you are ok with delaying completion of the quest then training Fishing has a lot of benefit

  • Start by getting 43 Prayer at the Boneyard when prompted at the start.

On the last trip you make to the Chaos Altar (where you will get 43 Prayer), bring an empty Looting bag with you and an Iron scimitar from the spawn at the south end of the Bone Yard. (wind strike rats outside Ferox Enclave, get runes from the mage tutor).

After you get 43 Prayer, head to the center of the Lava Maze and pick up a full inventory and looting bag of steel platebodies.

Be aware that the Lesser demon CAN roam next to the platebody spawn, so you may want to walk away from it a bit before hoping worlds. An alt could also be used to scout worlds ahead of time.

Protection from melee should get you through the maze. Don't forget you need points to get back out so don't waste them all.

Walk all the way back to the Ferox Enclave, restore your run, then walk to either Horvik in Varrock, or the Wilderness general store (Much faster than Horvik, but a bit more risky due to player-killing risk). If you went to Horvik you will have to make another trip to the wilderness to get the items from your looting bag (destroy the bag IN THE WILDERNESS).

Sell your steel platebodies, 2 per world. You can also use an alt to buy the platebodies as you sell them to prevent having to hop worlds.

Doing this should give you around an extra 65,000 coins at the start of your account, and doesn't cost much time since you are already in the area and have protection prayers to make getting through the maze easy.

  • Now that you have an extra bit of cash, you should home teleport and continue with the guide all the way through the Getting Started section (including Witch's House).
    • Don't blow this money on extra runes or something. The purpose of this cash is to fund feathers for Barbarian fishing down the line.
  • After you have finished the Getting Started section, rather than train Agility through rooftop courses, you are going to instead make a detour to train Fishing.
  • Start by training your Cooking to level 15 by buying raw sardines from Gerrant's Fishy Business and cooking them on the nearby range (or make a fire outside the store to cook on).
  • While there buy about 2,000 feathers and a fly fishing rod.
  • Head to Barbarian Village (Soul Wars minigame teleport) and train to level 35 Fishing via fly fishing.
    • Also cook the Raw trout you get, you need at least 25 Cooking before leaving, which should happen before 35 Fishing.
  • Head to Tempoross. You can store your cash stack at the coffer near Nightmare Zone to save space.
  • Train at Tempoross until level 58 Fishing. Use the points-focused methods (cooking) so that you will get better loot. Don't collect any rewards until the end.
  • Once you have 58 Fishing, you can collect all your rewards from the pool.

Tempoross Loot

This batch of loot will kickstart you with lots of raw fish, some planks, and hopefully some money from the Caskets. Here is how you will want to use the loot.

  • Drop the Spirit flakes, Seaweed, and Tackle box/Fish barrel if you got them.
  • If you got a Tome of water you can hold on to it and put your Soaked pages in it. If you did not get the Tome you could probably just drop the pages. Keep in mind that most of the use of the Tome is just as a water rune source, you won't really ever use charges from it.
    • You optionally could just not even keep the tome, it is a luxury item but having it would make getting to Entrana more difficult and will take up some space.
  • Open the Caskets and sell the loot to the general store in Pollnivneach.
  • Cook and drop all the raw fish.
  • Use the planks at your house in Rimmington. You can use them on Phials to unnote them. You will have a good amount of nails to get through the early levels as well.
    • Mahogany Homes isn't really viable yet because you can't teleport around. However, if you are willing to hold on to the planks or even unlock a death storage you could save them for later to get more xp out of them.
  • The feathers and bait will be used in the next section.

Barbarian Fishing

  • Complete the Barbarian Training miniquest to unlock barbarian fishing (you don't need to do all the training, just the first part until you can fish).
  • Do barbarian fishing for slow but efficient Agility and Strength training.
    • You need to get at least level 56 Agility, but going until level 60 would be better.
      • If you plan to do Hallowed Sepulchre and skip graceful you could go to 62 Agility to get the second floor.
    • Going all the way to 60 Agility will require about 45,000 feathers (also count your fishing bait from Tempoross).
    • If you are short on cash for the feathers, make an extra trip to the Lava Maze for an inventory and looting bag of steel platebodies. Don't get derailed going for another money making method when a quick 20 minute trip there can solve the issue. You will need to deathpile first in Lumbridge Castle's basem*nt.
  • This will leave your Fishing level in the mid 80s.

Guardians of the Rift

At this point you should be set up to complete the Guardians of The Rift Section, but instead of doing rooftops for agility you have done fishing.

This detour will set you up with a large amount of runes, and then magic levels. This will allow you to train construction using Mahogany Homes with the teleports this unlocks.

Set your house to Hosidious to get there.

  • Complete Sleeping Giants and make a few swords (buy platebodies in Varrock) to get 30 smithing.
  • Take a walk to the Keldagrim to unlock the Blast Furnace.
  • Load up the hopper with steel bars. You can take these out a few at a time later by only leaving a few inventory slots open when you remove bars.

Back to Tempoross

Back again! Now that you have finished up your Agility and Runecraft you are ready to return to Tempoross. This time you are here primarily for Construction experience.

This is pretty plain and simple, you will fight Tempoross until you are able to reach level 50 Construction with a combination of the passive experience and plank drops. Exactly how long you have to be here is a bit variable based on your plank drop RNG.

This time you will also be getting much higher level fish as rewards. You can cook whatever ones you would like for experience, and keep some of the higher level fish to use as food later. The fish you save can be stored in a looting bag for now.

During your construction training, build out your costume room. Most notably you need an armour case soon.

  • (Optional) If you decided to go for a ring of the elements you could use that for construction training rather than Tempoross.
  • Train at Tempoross until you can reach 50 Construction.
    • You can do points or xp focus. xp focus is more macro efficient, but is going to be a significantly longer grind to reach 50 construction.
    • It should also be noted that this guide assumes you are not planning to 3-tick barbarian fish. If you are willing to do that then Tempoross is not worth doing at this point. Just settle for your 60 Agility and go without 50 construction for awhile. You will have to walk more, but the extra time is not a huge deal compared to how much faster 3t barb fishing is.
  • Use up the extra loot you get as before.
    • Optionally save some higher level fish for food later.
  • Build an armour case in your house.

Getting back on Track!

At this point you are ready to start getting back on track with the main guide path. This long fishing detour has been a more macro efficient way to get through the early stages, but it is time to return.

  • Do Rooftop Agility at the Seers' Village Rooftop Course, and then at the Pollnivneach Rooftop Course until you have the 260 Marks of grace required for the Graceful outfit.
    • If you plan to do the Hallowed Sepulchre for agility training later, you could optionally just completely skip getting graceful entirely. Skipping Graceful is technically more efficient for solely maxing due to the slower xp rates, but the outfit is very useful to have.
  • Do your Magic training at the Mage Training Arena until 55 Magic as outlined in the main guide section (if you have not already). Also buy the teleport runes and such so now you can teleport around.
  • Renovate your house with the portal rooms outlined in the Renovating your home section of the guide. Most importantly you want the Arceuus teleports. You could even add some extra portal rooms if you want.
    • Having these teleports will help out during some of the early quests in the guide, especially those going to Morytania.
  • You are now set to return to the main guide path! Still do the section for Farming and and Kourend. You still need those things unlocked eventually, even if you already have construction. Follow all the steps and work towards Song of the Elves. Even if you are trying to max, finishing this quest is a huge milestone and should be a centerpiece of your earlygame goals.

What about Wintertodt?[edit | edit source]

Many players will be surprised by the lack of Wintertodt early on. Conventional wisdom says that rushing early Wintertodt is efficient, but in reality it isn't needed for most accounts.

There are a few factors that go into why skipping early Wintertodt is perfectly fine. This section will line out the reasoning behind this with a few points.

It should be noted that this assumes normal methods are used. If you are able to use methods involving alternate accounts such as Dolo (Duo solo) then early Wintertodt becomes a powerful option as the extra account can greatly increase xp rates.

If you would like to see an example of this, check out this video from he box jonge where he uses this. The Wintertodt section starts around 15 minutes in. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKo9y0HC1a8&t=781s

This video series does have a lot of other useful tips, but keep in mind that he is optimizing for in game time, and not all methods used are a great fit for the average player who isn't using this restriction.

0) Wintertodt early is easy, so you can still do it if you want to!

First there should be a preface here to say that early Wintertodt is definitely an easy option if you want a simple activity to sit at for a long time. If questing is too much effort for you, then chilling at Wintertodt for 60+ hours isn't so bad of an idea (see what I did there...). This can be great if you are making a UIM to play on the side or something similar. This section mostly focuses on why it is perfectly alright not to do it, but it is also perfectly fine to do it if it fits your playstyle.

1) Wintertodt early is only even a question if you are planning to MAX.

This first point is important to keep in mind. Firemaking as a skill is extremely lackluster, and serves almost no purpose for the majority of the game. There are only a handful of requirements higher than 50, and even fewer beyond level 75. The main section of this guide outlines very clearly how you can progress just fine without extensive Firemaking training, so the only real reason to make a detour for it would be to get the 99 locked in early.

2) If you are planning to MAX, there are better alternatives for an efficient earlygame.

Doing Wintertodt early allows you to train a skill that has low requirements while passively gaining experience in other skills, most notably Construction. However, there are other alternatives like Tempoross that accomplish this goal in a macro-efficient manner as well. Guardians of the Rift can also take you far. If you want it for money, then you would be better off just unlocking Blackjacking or Agility Pyramid as shown in the other sections of the guide. Realistically you are just looking for something to get you over the initial barrier of not having money for Magic training and teleports, and Wintertodt is not the only option for that. Even just collecting Steel platebodies from the Lava Maze would be a streamlined way to get through the early game cash hump in just a few hours.

3) You don't NEED to be low HP to do Wintertodt.

By far one of the biggest reasons to rush Wintertodt is to take advantage of being low hitpoints. However, this just isn't needed. Sure if you are low hitpoints you can do just fine with pineapples, but if you are farther along in your account you can just use Saradomin brews, which will be abundant late game. Remember that since Firemaking isn't really important, you can happily wait a very long time to do it. Even if you do it before you have brews, food like sharks or just Potato with cheese works fine.

4) You can't use the loot in the earlygame and you can't bank it like other irons.

This here is actually the crux of the issue. As bad as the loot from Wintertodt is, over the course of dozens of hours it does add up to something notable. If you choose to rush to Wintertodt you will be forced to either carry around a lot of loot that you can't use until later, or just drop most of the loot you get. This is where the penalty of being an Ultimate Ironman really shows. Normal iron accounts can just bank the random stuff to use later without wasting it. UIM has to go through hoops to use it or carry it. You are much better off just waiting to train firemaking until later in your account once you have an established baseline and will be able to use all of the loot right after finishing instead of carrying it around. Also keep in mind that the loot will be notably better with higher stats, most importantly farming for seeds as those are the most impactful thing you will receive. It is possible to store the loot and do alright, but you will be much more restricted in your early bag capacity.

When should you do Wintertodt then?

You should wait to start Wintertodt until you are able to effectively use the loot after you are done. You will want a decent Herblore (45+) and Farming level (65+) so that you can farm seeds and make potions right away as well as get more high level seeds/herbs as drops. The other loot like logs, ore, gems, and fish are not as important so don't stress about your levels for those resources. Additionally, it is strongly recommended to wait until you have a stockpile of herb seeds from something like Master Farmers so that you can farm as you go. Wintertodt would be an excellent activity to do while you farm herbs for the 70 Herblore requirement to Song of the Elves.

Boneyard Prayer[edit | edit source]

Players that are interested in an easier and safer early game can start their journey with a visit to the Bone Yard, where they will collect Big bones, then use them on the wilderness Chaos altar for 43 Prayer. This unlocks the Protect from Melee prayer right away.

Having protection from melee makes many quest bosses trivial, and heavily reduces the need for food. Additionally, gaining these total levels early will allow you to unlock a Rune pouch a bit sooner.

The downside to this method is that it is a somewhat tedious ~3 hour grind right at the start of your account and some players might wish to jump into more active progress.

Overall doing this method doesn't really gain or lose much time in the long run. The slow xp rates are offset by the extra time gained by being able to easily move through difficult sections without food and ends up about even.

If you are not comfortable navigating the early game safely (for example if this is your first ironman account) then doing this method is highly recommended as dying can cost a lot of time on an UIM.

If you do this method here are some steps.

Optional: You can bring some runes with you from the Magic combat tutor to kill Rats outside the Ferox Enclave with Wind Strike. This will give you a chance at a Looting bag, which can be filled with extra bones and destroyed by the altar.

  1. Drop all of your items except your shrimp and bread.
  2. Clan Wars minigame teleport.
  3. Exit the Ferox Enclave and head north east to the Bone Yard
  4. Pick up the Big bones spawn at the south west end. Avoid the skeletons, they will attack you.
  5. Hop worlds and pick up big bones until you have a full inventory.
  6. Head north then west to the Chaos altar.
  7. Use your big bones on the altar.
  8. Return to the boneyard for more bones. Repeat this until you have 43 Prayer.
NOTE: When your minigame teleport is available, you can kill yourself at the Chaos Altar by attempting to take the wine.
Then minigame teleport to clan wars and run to the Boneyard. This is faster than walking back and restores your run energy.
  9. On your last trip of bones, grab an Iron scimitar from the spawn next to the big bones. After getting 43 Prayer run to the Lava Maze and grab an inventory of Steel platebodies to sell to the general store (or Horvik) for some easy cash. Bring an empty looting bag with you so you can get a full bag of platebodies as well. Don't forget you need prayer points to exit the maze, so don't use them all up. Also be very careful to not die to the lesser demon in the area. You should walk west of the platebody spawn each time before changing worlds as the demon can wander next to the spawn and hit you when you log in.
  10. When finished, return to the Ferox Enclave, restore your run to full at the pool.
  11. Sell your loot at the wilderness general store or Horvik in Varrock. Doing this and selling two plates a world will give around 65,000 extra coins. This money isn't needed, but is nice to have for extra runes or bait if you want to do some barbarian fishing.

Early Blue Dragons[edit | edit source]

Killing Blue dragons with Water Strike is a viable alternative to the Bone Yard for obtaining Protect from Melee early on. This method is slower than the Boneyard, but is much less tedious and provides a solid head start to early Magic training.

This is a good option for those who prefer lower effort methods, even if they take longer. It should also be noted that this method involves more risk, as dying at the Chaos altar will cost a lot of time.

Starting fresh from tutorial island:

  • Head to Varrock and buy a staff of fire from zaff.
  • Head to Aubury and buy 300 mind runes, 700 air runes, 100 water runes, 150 earth runes.
  • Head to Taverly and complete Witch's house. Safespot all forms of the witch's experiment to avoid having to tank them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDB351j-qZI&t=180s
  • Minigame teleport to Clan Wars.
  • Walk outside and kill some rats with magic until you get a Looting Bag.
  • Head to the Bone Yard and pick up an iron scimitar from the spawn there.
  • Head into the Lava Maze and collect a full inventory and looting bag full of steel platebodys from the spawn there. Be careful not to die to the Lesser Demon.
  • Leave the Lava Maze and return to the Ferox Enclave. Make sure to remember your scimitar for the webs.
    • You should be able to make it through the maze without food with full run energy and the extra hp from witch's house. If you are worried, you can keep a few food.
  • Head to Varrock and sell the platebodies to Horvik. Sell 2 per world.
  • Head back to the wilderness, destroy the looting bag, and get your platebodies, and sell those to Horvik.
  • Head to Aubury and purchase runes until you have 4500 mind, and 9000 air runes.
    • Optionally, you could only buy about 1100 casts of fire strike at a time, then store the extra money at clan wars. Then buy a new set of runes after each inventory of bones. This mitigates the risk of dying at the altar, but does take longer to walk around.
  • Head to the Isle of Souls Dungeon and safespot blue dragons there. Make sure to have high run energy when you enter the dungeon so you can run past everything.
  • Once you have a full inventory of Dragon Bones, minigame teleport to clan wars.
  • Deposit all extra coins there. This is a reserve to replace the money used in the rest of the guide normally obtained from the stronghold of security.
  • Walk to the chaos altar and use the bones.
    • Dying here is very costly, so be careful and ready to log out at any sign of danger. If you want, you could bring some food to greatly increase the chance of surviving a pvp encounter. Some options include wine from draynor village, chocolate cake from Ardougne, or Karambwans from Brimhaven. If you bring 20 dragon bones per trip, you will reach 43 prayer in 5 trips on average. You may want to do 21or 22 though in case you have bad luck.
  • Return to the Isle of Souls dungeon (note that the Ferox enclave connects to Soul Wars), get more bones, and repeat.
  • 43 prayer should take around 4 inventories, depending on your luck. If you are a bit short, you can get bones from the Bone Yard to make up the difference. Also, some of the early quests in the guide have small prayer experience rewards.
  • If you do this method, then you will likely want to keep the law rune reward from Monk's Friend and get a few extra teleports early on.

Slayer[edit | edit source]

Slayer is a popular and viable alternative for mid game progression. While there are many benefits to training this skill, the most notable for the completion of Song of the Elves are the Herblore supplies gained along the way.

While thieving Master Farmers is a great way to get seeds, in order to make them the most macro-efficient players really should obtain 99 Thieving for the Thieving cape, or 94 Thieving and the Ardougne hard diary. This allows players to never fail when pickpocketing master farmers, dramatically increasing the speed at which herb seeds are acquired. Thieving Master Farmers with a lower level is still viable, just not as fast. However despite the benefits, obtaining either of these things requires a significant amount of time investment that not all players are interested in putting in. This is especially true for players that prefer low effort training methods as Thieving is a relatively high effort skill. This section provides a guide for players wishing to instead move on to training Slayer for their herblore supplies, or potentially for players who have acquired seeds already and need something to do while farming them.

Phase 1: Getting set up[edit | edit source]

Before jumping right into the mix, there is still a lot more work to do. This section is going to assume the player has followed the majority of the guide already.

Given that this is not part of the main guide there will be less detail and more just things to check off before you get going. Additionally it should be noted that most of the skill requirements, Construction, Hunter, Mining, Woodcutting, and Smithing, will not be addressed much here. This is because they really can be completed at any time you wish since you will be still be using the same methods as described in the main guide section.

Farming Contracts: Hespori Seed

One of the easy to overlook benefits of the original guide method is that it passively unlocks Hespori as a death storage location. This is the best location for death storage as it is relatively easy to get to and has the lowest reclaim fee. You want to get this done early because you still have a relatively clean inventory. If you get too deep into slayer and such then it will bog down your inventory and making getting the Hespori seed more difficult.

You should follow the original guide steps that start doing Farming contracts, including getting money, until you get a Hespori seed. You will need enough money to expand your house to include more portal rooms, train magic to level 72, buy combat gear such as the Dragon scimitar and other expenses. Additionally you will want to make sure you do enough Tithe Farm to unlock the Seed box and an Herb sack. Don't purchase the Herb sack yet though. You need level 58 Herblore to use the sack, and it cannot be stored. Make sure you also get 20 noted limpwurt roots for Temple of Ikov. You won't need to keep guam seeds or marrentill seeds as you won't be doing lunar herblore if you are going down the slayer route. Leave all of the normal plants you preplant there so you can start contracts more easily later. Plant some whiteberry seeds around the world too.

Magic:

After you have Hespori locked in you can clean up your inventory and work on getting 72 Magic. This allows you to use the Expert Reanimation spell, as well as on the way getting the level for NPC Contact.

Mage Training Arena is a great way to train magic quickly. The alchemy room is extremely fast experience but costs some money. The enchantment room is solid experience and about breaks even when using the lvl-4 enchant. You can use the points you gain to buy more cosmic runes.

Ancients:

You will want to complete Temple of Ikov and then Desert Treasure I. You should be able to make some prayer potions from the seeds you got going for a Hespori seed. If you didn't then just do this once you get some seeds.

Proselyte:

Whenever you would like go ahead and knock out the The Slug Menace quest and buy a set of Proselyte armour to put in your house.

House Portals:

Go ahead and build more portal rooms and create a portal for each teleport in the normal spellbook. This will be useful later as you will be doing slayer primarily on the Arceuus spellbook and using Teleport to house tabs to get around.

Also build the lunar portals once you can do so.

Fremnnik Trials and Lunars:

Knock out The Fremennik Trials and then Lunar Diplomacy. You will need to death pile for Fremennik Trials, and should be able to easily win the fight by flicking Protect from Melee.

Optionally complete The Fremennik Isles so you can use a Helm of neitiznot once you get 55 defence. You could wait to do this quest until after getting 75/85 combat though since the Berserker helm is just as good for training at crabs.

Fighter Torso:

You will need to knock out a Fighter torso at Barbarian Assault whenever you can. You will have to death pile because you can't bring certain items in.

Guardians of the Rift:

https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Ultimate_Ironman_Guide/Runecraft

Once Lunar Diplomacy and thus NPC Contact have been unlocked the Guardians of the Rift minigame now becomes an option. This definitely falls under optional but efficient grinds as it is a great way to obtain runes for slayer. In theory you could go all the way to 77 which would set you up for Blood rune crafting. If you plan to do zeah bloods after level 77 you could go all the way to level 95 to have wrath runes when you complete Dragon Slayer II. Make sure to complete Mourning's End Part II when you get the level for death runes.

Higher construction: Jewellery box and Tabs:

It would be a good idea to build a basic jewellery box. This will require 75 Construction to boost for. While you only need 70 for Song of the Elves, having the box is extremely helpful for slayer and just in general. Most notable it will let you easily get to the Ferox Enclave later once you have a Berserker ring as your main ring. This will require some extra money from Thieving but oak mahogany homes is still really inexpensive. If you are short on cash and don't want to grind for more you could also just wait until you get a Berserker ring and then get the jewellery box.

Additionally you will want to have the higher level lecterns (mahogany) so that you can make Teleport to house tabs and Bones to peaches tabs (if you are not using prayer).

Dragon Slayer:

Do not start Dragon Slayer I! If you don't start this quest you will not get any dragon tasks, which you don't want any of right now. This means you can't finish Barrows gloves yet, but that is ok.

75/85 combat:

You will need a combat level of at least 75 to start Slayer as you will want to use Konar quo Maten as your slayer master. The recommended method is to simply do Ammonite Crabs.

Also consider getting 70+ ranged with a bone crossbow. This will allow you to use a crystal bow when going for a Fire cape.

If you are willing to, going until 85 combat is actually a good option too so that you can complete Dream Mentor. This will give you the ability to use Humidify for making teleport tablets.

You will obtain the Dragon defender when you gain access to the Warriors' Guild. If you are not ready to start Slayer right away, just get a Rune defender, show it to the lady in the Warriors' Guild basem*nt, then drop it when you are done training.

Doing this will unlock the ability to get a Dragon defender later while also keeping a clean inventory.

This will be an example inventory setup for starting out on your grind. You will have body runes, nature runes, and Soul runes in your rune pouch. This combined with the blood runes will allow you to cast Adept Reanimation and Expert Reanimation. You will be on the Arceuus spellbook. This is done so that you can reanimate any ensouled heads you get right away for passive Prayer experience. This is extremely good because the majority of the tasks Konar can assign drop ensouled heads of some kind.

Tablet creation:

Creating tablets is relatively simple. Start by making a few house tabs by mining clay and using buckets of water on them. This lets you teleport around after switching to lunars. Then switch to the Lunar spellbook and get runes for Humidify as well as runes to create the tab you want. Set your house to Rimmington, walk outside and mine clay at the Rimmington mine. Then use a house tab to get to your house, make some tabs, exit your house and walk back to the mine.

This can take a bit of time to set up since you probably want to death storage first, so consider making a large stack of these tabs up front. An alternative (AFK and does not require death banking, but slower overall) method to obtaining the soft clay is by mining Shooting Stars and exchanging the stardust for soft clay packs at Dusuri's Star Shop.

NOTE: If you are planning to farm a lot of herbs during this grind, you could optionally skip doing ensouled heads entirely if you don't want to make a lot of tabs. This would leave a lot of Prayer experience on the ground though.

Other:

If you do not have 58 Herblore yet, do not purchase the herb sack yet.

Between tasks take your loot to the Rogues' Den and sell it to the general store there.

If you are using Protect from Melee on your tasks then use a Proselyte hauberk over the Fighter torso and definitely get a Helm of Neitiznot.

If you are not using prayer, then you could consider getting Obsidian platelegs once you have the extra money. This isn't a big deal though.

If you are using prayer replace the Bones to peaches tabs with prayer potions.

Buy some combat potions at the Warriors' Guild between tasks. If you have Irits and/or Kwuarms you can make some super attack/strength potions to use instead.

You can choose to attempt to complete Hard Clue Scrolls that you get, but doing so is not required as none of the drops are really that vital and many steps are difficult for UIM to complete, notably the many wilderness steps.

You can optionally choose to bring a few extra runes and use Thralls to increase your damage. This is rather expensive though so probably only worthwhile if you did a lot of Guardians of the Rift.

Point Boosting:

Once you finally have the gear setup above, all the prerequisites you would like, and at least 75 combat, you are are ready to actually start doing Slayer.

The first step in your journey though is actually to do Slayer point boosting to get yourself started with blocks, skips, and unlocks. This is done by completing 9 tasks in a row using Turael, then every 10th task completing at Konar quo Maten for the bonus points.

You want to do this until at least your 50th task, but going for 100 tasks would really set you up even better. Tasks from Turael are very fast so this isn't actually that unreasonable. Having the Jewellery box is really nice to get to Turael easily. Block black demons and hellhounds if you get them.

Phase 3: Konar Slayer[edit | edit source]

Now that you have points sorted out, you will be grinding Konar tasks. The benefit to using her is that without dragons her task list is actually relatively limited. Importantly, all of these tasks except Ankou drop ensouled heads, which will result in a good amount of passive prayer experience. Additionally the extra Brimstone key drops will provide extra loot which will add up nicely over time.

Outside of monsters that require a slayer level, these are the only tasks you can get from Konar:

  • Ankou
  • Black Demon (blocked)
  • Daggonoth
  • Fire Giants
  • Greater Demons
  • Hellhounds (blocked)
  • Kalphites
  • Trolls

If you have any of these tasks you particularly don't like, then you could use your extra block slots on them. The majority of the slayer monsters are solid tasks as they have good loot and the ability to spawn Superior slayer monsters.

At this point you are just cruising and building up seeds and other loot. You can farm seeds from your seed box if you want, or just stockpile them for later. Anything you get that you want to keep can be put in the Looting bag as you have lots of space. You will continue to do Konar slayer until you decide you want to switch to bursting. This could be at level 65 for dust devils or even later, keep in mind that you will no longer be able to gain passive prayer experience from the ensouled heads. It may be best to wait until after completing Song of the Elves, which will unlock Prifddinas teaks for construction training. Then that could be done until you have an Occult altar in your house for easily changing to the Ancient Spellbook. Do not finish Barrows gloves until you are ready to move on from melee Konar slayer.

  • Of course, once you get level 58 Slayer you should complete Cabin Fever and kill cave horrors off task until you get a Black mask.
  • Whenever you feel comfortable and have extra money for death runes you can kill Dagannoth Rex with Iban Blast for a berserker ring.
  • Once you have enough prayer potions you can obtain a Fire cape. The recommended method would be to use a Crystal bow, your other gear doesn't matter too much since the bow has great base stats. However this bow is a bit expensive so you could optionally wait until after completing Song of the Elves so that you can use crystal shards rather than coins to create the bow.
  • Once you get a full crystal key you can obtain an uncut dragonstone. At that point you can knock out 75+ Crafting at the charter ships using Superglass Make (with 77 Magic). Then you can create a glory to use or put in your house. You could theoretically go all the way to 85 crafting and get an amulet of fury as well if you wanted. This is rather expensive though and the glory is storable in the house while a fury is not.

Guardians of the Rift Early[edit | edit source]

Playing the Guardians of the Rift minigame is another viable alternative for early progression. This minigame has low requirements, and can provide a large supply of runes to save money purchasing them from stores. The main guide avoids this minigame because Runecraft is not a required skill for Song of the Elves, however it is still a good option for those willing to make a detour. Doing Guardians of the Rift early is slightly better because the Ring of the elements can speed up construction training early on.

Below are some steps to use this route. This assumes one has just completed the Getting Started section.

  • Do Varrock Rooftop Course course until 40 Agility.
  • Buy a mithril sword from the Varrock Swordshop.
  • Home teleport
  • Get a bronze pickaxe from the tower
  • Get a knife from the kitchen.
  • Head to Draynor Village
  • Buy a rope from Ned.
  • Complete A Porcine of Interest.
    • Use wine for the fight, bring a lot with you.
  • Buy some more wine, 10 should be enough.
  • Buy 5 more charges for your Chronicle from Diango.
  • Chronicle teleport.
  • Complete Priest in Peril. Mine your own rune essence,
    • Just do 3 trips for the essence.
    • Don't forget to grab a bucket during the quest.
  • Drop you fire staff, mithril sword, and extra food for weight.
  • Obtain 43 Prayer from the Bone Yard if you did not do it at the start.
    • Store your extra money at the coffers in the Ferox Enclave to rebuild after.
    • You are risking your Mark of Grace stack, but if you lose it that isn't a huge deal. You could death pile to protect them if you would like.
  • Get a Looting Bag and make a trip to the Lava Maze to collect an inventory and bag full of steel platebodies (if you don't already have 50k from something else). This will fund your rune pickaxe later.
    • Bring a bit of food and a slash weapon with you.
    • Optionally death pile to protect your mark of grace stack.
  • Sell them to Horvik, 2 per world.
  • Head into Canifis and do the Canifis Rooftop Course until around 56 Agility.
    • This is a requirement for the shortcut in Guardians of the Rift.
    • It is a good idea to round out the amount of mark of grace you have to be able to use them all after this grind. Purchase the cape and gloves first, as those are not part of the Raiments of the eye set. Do NOT purchase the body.
  • Start Enter the Abyss.
    • While in the area, pick up some monk robes from the monastery.
  • Complete Demon Slayer.
    • Visit the rune essence mine while at the Wizards Tower for Enter the Abyss, then walk to Ardougne and complete the next teleport before returning to Varrock.
    • While in the Lumbridge/Draynor area collect some items
      • A pickaxe (Spawn)
      • An Axe (Bob)
      • A Fly Fishing rod and some bait (Fishing Shop)
      • A rope (Ned)
  • Finish Enter the Abyss.
  • Head to the Dwarven Mines.
  • Purchase a steel, mithril, adamant, and rune pickaxe from Nurmof's Pickaxe Shop.
  • Train your Mining to at least level 41 (higher is an option too).
    • Power mining iron is a great way to go.
    • Optionally try to complete The Dig Site, but the quest is rather tedious with your current setup.
    • Keep the rune pickaxe.
  • Mine an inventory of pure essence.
  • Minigame teleport to castle wars, then head to the Ourania Altar and use most of your essence to get level 10 Runecraft.
    • Save 3 essence in your small pouch for later.
  • Obtain a bucket of water.
  • Complete the Varrock Easy Diary.
    • Use the lamp on Prayer.
    • Start Temple of the Eye and use the one time teleport to the abyss to craft the earth runes from the essence in your pouch.
  • Wear the varrock armour 1.
  • Finish Temple of the eye.
  • Take a charter ship to Port Phasmatys and train crafting there until level 31.
    • Questing for this xp is difficult because you have no teleports. Getting 31 this way doesn't take long.
    • Alternatively, you can get this crafting xp passively from making guardians at Guardians of the Rift. This will prevent you from stacking up as many cosmic runes for early magic xp though.
  • Home teleport.
  • Buy an axe from bob and get 36 woodcutting.
  • Death pile at the Draynor Jail Guards and complete Lost City
    • If you don't have some fire strike runes, buy some first. Make sure to include fire runes as you won't have the staff.
  • Start playing Guardians of the Rift. The first goal is to get to level 50 Runecraft.
  • Keep Cosmic, Chaos, and Nature runes.
    • Do not do any searches until at least level 50, so that you can get the large pouch. Your medium pouch will degrade, but that is alright.
  • Once you reach level 50 Runecraft, pull all your searches. You should get the Large Pouch, as well as a large amount of runes. You will also get pearls and potentially other items.
    • What you do with the pearls will depend on your future plans and how quickly you plan to return to the minigame. If you do not plan to return for a long time, it won't be worth keeping them as they use an inventory slot.
    • It is also a reasonable option to just stay here at Guardians of the Rift until around 65 Runecraft and aim to get the Ring of the Elements now. The down side to this is that you will be down 2 inventory spaces due to not having a Rune Pouch, but it isn't really a huge difference. If you choose to do this, charge the ring before you dispose of your Runes and Pouches!
  • Now that you have a stock of runes, buy a staff of fire and head to the Mage Training Arena to train Magic until hopefully level 51 for Ardougne Teleport.
    • Use the nature runes at the alchemy room.
    • Use the cosmic runes with a fire staff once you get 49 Magic in the enchantment room.
    • Use extra law runes at the telekinetic room, up to 201 telekinetic points. Don't use up all your law runes though.
    • If you do not end up with enough runes to reach level 51, then you can just do more Guardians of the Rift to make up the difference. Also, you could aim for level 55 instead of 51, which is likely require more runes unless you got lucky with your searches.
    • Any runes or items you don't plan to use can be put in a looting bag for now.
  • Once finished with this Magic training, retrieve any runes you need from the bag and set yourself up for some questing. You should have hopefully gotten a supply of law runes from the searches to teleport around. If you did not, then you can complete Death Plateau and Troll Stronghold then return to Guardians of the Rift until you can craft some law runes to use.
  • Start Questing and work towards 750 total level to get a rune pouch from Last Man Standing. You can follow the main guide path, or go a bit out of order for quests that give a lot of total levels. Additionally, you could just skill by training skills like Firemaking or Woodcutting.
    • Keep in mind that you still need 70 Agility, and getting the graceful outfit would be a good idea. Also, while the need for money has been greatly offset by getting runes from Guardians of the Rift, there are still other things the require money. You will probably have to do at least some laps at the Agility Pyramid or another money making method while going on this side quest for 750 total level, or just to continue moving forward in the guide.
    • A good idea would be to return to Agility, get the Graceful Outfit, do a bit of Agility Pyramid for cash, then follow the guide until you finish the 50 construction grind. This will allow you to store your graceful top so it doesn't conflict with the varrock armour as well as provide a lot of total levels along the way. Having the essence pouches in your inventory is a bit of a hassle, but is manageable. You could also just drop the pouches and reobtain them later.
  • When you are ready, return to Guardians of the Rift.
    • Consider waiting to return until you can use the NPC Contact spell to repair pouches. Otherwise, repair your pouches with pearls.
      • This is not a big deal until you have a Giant Pouch as the lower tier pouches do not degrade very quickly.
      • You can optionally not even worry about NPC contact, as using pearls to fix the pouches is also perfectly fine and sustainable.
    • Once you have the level for Law Runes, take a break and complete Death Plateau and Troll Stronghold. Or just do this before returning.
    • Once you have level 65, consider taking a break until you can complete Mourning's End Part II.
    • Once you have level 77, consider taking a break until you can complete Sins of the Father. You can also leave at this point and make blood runes on Zeah. This detours heavily from the main goal of this guide, but is a great source of cash.
    • You can consider buying the Ring of the Elements with your pearls to speed up the construction grind.
