"Gus looks so much like a ghost child that he's often mistaken for one. Perhaps fittingly, he's an enthusiast of all things Supernatural, since he's too innocent to be scared."
Gus is a Super Rare Brawler who has moderately low health and moderate damage, but has unique healing capabilities. He attacks by throwing a balloon at enemies. Gus charges up a bar by hitting enemy Brawlers, and charging it makes his next attack spawn a spirit that heals him or allies that pick it up. His Super grants him or a teammate a shield that absorbs damage and decays over time, pushing all nearby enemies back. His first Gadget, Kooky Popper, instantly explodes all active spirits. His second Gadget, Soul Switcher, instantly charges his bar in exchange for some of his current health. Gus' first Star Power, Health Bonanza, doubles the healing from his spirits, and his second Star Power, Spirit Animal, momentarily increases the damage of whoever receives Gus' Super.
Attack: Loony Balloons
"Gus shoots balloons at enemies. After several hits, a spirit will drop. Collected spirits will restore some health to Gus or his teammates."
Gus fires a balloon in a straight line. Each attack that hits an enemy Brawler fills a bar by one third. After the bar is filled, the next attack that hits an enemy Brawler empties the bar and spawns a spirit at the enemy location. Spirits can be collected by Gus or his allies, healing them, but the healing doesn't scale with Power Cubes or outside buffs. Up to 10 spirits will remain in place indefinitely until collected. Spawning more spirits causes the others to disappear (in the same order they appeared). The attack takes 0.75 seconds to complete.
Super: Spooky Boy
"Gus uses Spooky (a balloon creation and also his best friend), to create a shield around himself or one of his teammates and pushes nearby enemies back."
Gus shoots out a balloon dog that can pass through walls and grants himself or allies a consumable shield that blocks an amount of damage and decays for 5% health every 0.5 seconds, similar to Edgar's Hardcore Gadget, and knocks nearby enemies back. The player can give teammates the shield by aiming the Super or give it to Gus by auto-aiming it. If an attack deals more damage than the shield's current health, the shield disappears and the Brawler with the shield is damaged by the remaining damage. Colette's attack and Super will deal damage based on the Brawler's max health when this shield is active. Enemies damaging those with the shield on can still charge their Supers.
Gadgets
Kooky Popper
"Explode all uncollected spirits, dealing 2240 damage to nearby enemies."
When activated, all spirits on the map explode, dealing 2240 damage to enemies. The amount of damage dealt can stack with other spirits. This Gadget can only be activated if there is at least 1 spirit on the battlefield.
Soul Switcher
"Gus loses 5% health but gains 100% spirit instantly."
When activated, Gus instantly loses 5% of his current health but will instantly charge his bar. At any level, 5% of Gus' health is 60% of the heal from his spirits (30% with his Health Bonanza Star Power).
Star Powers
Health Bonanza
"Health gained from spirits are increased by 100%."
This Star Power doubles the healing from picking up a spirit.
Spirit Animal
"Spooky increases the damage of a teammate by 25% for 5 seconds."
Gus or allies affected by his Super will also deal 25% more damage for 5 seconds after gaining the shield.
Tips
Game Modes and Maps
- Gus' Super can be used to protect the teammate who has the most Gems or Bounty Stars so they do not die and lose their Gems/Stars. It can also be used to protect whoever is holding the Ball in Brawl Ball.
- Gus is better used defensively and for supporting teammates. Because of this, he is more useful in 3v3 modes or Duo Showdown, where he can take more advantages of his abilities.
- Gus shouldn't be underrated when going offensive, either. With his Spirit Animal Star Power, Super, and Kooky Popper Gadget, he can deal high total damage combo, and his own survivability is ensured with his Super.
Recommended Build
- Gus' spirits can be very useful for area control if he's using his Kooky Popper Gadget, since he can hit enemies when they're close to the Gem Spawn in Gem Grab and put spirits in said area. Then, when enemies get close to the spawn to grab Gems, he can use the Gadget to pop the spirits and deal damage to the enemies.
Strategies
- Gus' Super is used best on assassins with lower health and can quickly approach enemies such as Crow and Edgar, as they can get close to the enemies with less risk of dying quickly, and are able to wipe out the entire team.
- This could be a very effective strategy in game modes such as Brawl Ball, and gives your team enough time to easily score the ball.
- In game modes like Gem Grab or Bounty, this can be used to turn the tables on the enemy as Gus' team will get a lot of Gems/Stars.
Other
- Gus' Super has to be used immediately, either offensively or defensively, after activating it, since its health decays very rapidly. After a couple seconds, it won't be useful anymore.
- It is better to pair Gus with melee Brawlers, since his spirits are usually positioned in the enemies' side, where the close-ranged teammates could get close and receive the heal from the spirits.
- He is surprisingly able to do lots of damage at close-range and survive because he can use his shield for instant health, not to mention his ghosts that give him health. By rushing on enemies who cannot burst, he is more likely to win.
