Hades: The Unfortunate God (2024)

The depiction of Hades is totally incorrect

Hades the God of the Underworld is the most dangerous Greek god according to modern pop culture and people. In this article I'll tell you how this is totally incorrect.

Hades: The Unfortunate God (4)

The biggest misconception people have is that hades is evil and scary because he is the god of death which is completely untrue. Hades is god of the underworld, the god of death is Thanatos.

One of the qualities of all 12 Olympians are that they are the epitome of human beauty. The ancient poets said that the beauty of the gods was so great that a mortal couldn't comprehend it. This applies to Hades too. He is unnaturally attractive and of relatively mild nature when we compare him to his brothers, Zeus and Poseidon. The abduction of Persephone was the only major bad deed the god has done and unlike others Persephone even forgave him.

Another popular belief is that he is violent. No, he isn't violent unless necessary and doesn't get angry as fast as his siblings and family members do. He mostly keeps to himself and the underworld. He was an unlucky god who got the underworld when the gods were dividing the world for each of them to rule. If Hades had become king of the gods instead of Zeus he would have done much better than Zeus himself. Hades isn't a person to be messed with either. Even Zeus fears venturing into the Underworld as he knows about the true power of Hades.

So as a conclusion I have to say that please stop picturing the poor god as a villain and give him some respect! The religion may not exist today but we have to respect the roots.
