Here’s How I Got My First 1,000 Followers In Less Than 90 Days On Medium (2024)

Here’s How I Got My First 1,000 Followers In Less Than 90 Days On Medium (2)

The most difficult part is getting your first 1,000 followers.

But why specifically 1,000 followers? Why not 100 or 500 followers? Good question my, friend. The reason 1,000 followers matter is because it gives you credibility and authority.

No one cares about you if you have 100 or 500 followers. You’re not special.

But if you have 1,000 followers? Oh god damn. Suddenly you feel like an incredibly successful writer. You start to compare your 1,000 followers to a giant stadium filled with 1000s of people.

Something like this:

And this is why it matters, my friend.

But unfortunately, it’s hard to get your first 1,000 followers. It’s so much pain, frustration, and an unknown path that you never know when it’s going to end.

But NOT, when you know exactly how to get there. With some smart moves, strategies, and tactics, you can achieve your 1,000 followers in the shortest period of time — in less than 90 days.

This is exactly what I’m about to show you: how I got my 1,000 followers in less than 90 days. (75 days I guess!) You can follow the same footpath that I followed and you can manage to get the same results. Sounds fair?

Let’s dive in!

This is where a lot of newbie writers make the silliest mistake.

Some gurus tell them to write “anything and everything” to grow on Medium. So they can’t help but follow their advice assuming that what gurus told them will work. But reality hits hard and they don’t see any results.

Let me explain why.

When you write about multiple niches (Anything and everything) you attract different types of followers having different interests. I call this the Audience Differentiation.

So what happens is, it becomes so much hard for you to please your followers, and because of this, they don’t engage with every story you write. As a result, the Medium algorithm suppresses your growth.

I know it’s deep. But you can learn more about it in Chapters 6, 7, and 8 in my ebook Medium Masterclass. I briefly explain this concept in these chapters.

And this is the reason, you should avoid writing about multiple topics, especially in the beginning. But then you ask: So what’s the solution then?

Writing in one niche.

Write about one topic. This helps you get niche followers, which helps you to become relevant to your followers. Meaning every time you publish a new story, most of your followers will read it. As a result, growing on Medium becomes a lot easier.

But the sad news is: Most people do the opposite and wonder why they’re not growing on Medium.

I also teach you how to find your one niche using my 90-Day Straight Trilogy approach. So if you really, really want to dive deep into these concepts, I highly recommend you to please take a look at the ebook Medium Masterclass (20 chapters. 135 pages. 25,000+ words.)

This is the exact thing I did when I wanted to get my first 1,000 followers. I wrote in just one niche. And still, to date, I only write about one niche — Medium Growth Writing. And I can’t tell you enough how well it’s working!

Medium is a volume game.

If you think publishing once a week can get you 1,000 followers in 90 days, especially when you’re starting — you’re dead wrong, my friend. It’s not going to happen. Because if that were the case, everyone would have 1000s followers on Medium, but do they?

This is what you need to understand.

You need volume, an absurd amount of volume. Because the more you publish, the more views you get. In the beginning, it’s a hit-or-miss game.

Want proof? Let me show you my stats:

Here’s How I Got My First 1,000 Followers In Less Than 90 Days On Medium (4)

I started writing on Medium in March 2022. Do you know how many stories I used to publish per day? one, sometimes two. Yup. I was averaging 30–45 stories per month. And by the time I hit my 1,000 followers mark, I already had 100 stories published.

This is the reason, I did pretty well every month even when I was a beginner writer on Medium. Something like this:

  • First month: 108 followers
  • Second Month: 140 followers
  • Third Month: 689 followers

Now you may be wondering and saying: But Har, that’s not 1,000 followers in total. Let me tell you: So around that exact time, Medium removed a lot of bots from Medium, and my follower count went from 1000+ followers to 938 followers. But technically I had got 1,000 followers in less than 90 days.

And do you see the pattern?

The first two months were decent, but the third month? I blew up in that month. A few stories went mega-viral and almost got me 600+ followers in a single month.

This is what happens, my friend.

When you publish a lot, some stories always take off. I don’t know why. It just does. This has happened to me so many times and will happen to you if you do the same. I guarantee.

So publish a lot.

I no longer engage or network with anyone on Medium!

But that wasn’t always the case. I distinctly remember when I started writing on Medium, I used to network and engage a lot.

I had so many fellow creators — more than 10. We all would comment, like, and share each other stories on a daily and weekly basis. This not only made the writing journey fun but also helped all of us grow together.

And this is what you need to do. Find fellow creators who are in the same niche as you are and have similar follower counts as you do. Here I said two things:

  • Same niche.
  • The similar follower counts.

Remember. Do not try to become fellow writers with off-topic accounts. Also, don’t send networking proposals to big accounts, they won’t accept you. So important to keep in mind.

Precisely, find 5–10 Niche-similar fellow creators and grow together.

This is so important.

Most people underestimate their audience. They ignore the most important part of growing on Medium: Building relationships with their followers.

You should build relationships with your followers because they’re the ones who help you grow on Medium. Without them, you’re nothing. Seriously!

Here’s why:

If you don’t have an audience, the Medium algorithm helps you grow on Medium. But if you DO have an audience, your followers help you grow on Medium.

So don’t underestimate your audience.

As a Medium Growth Guy. I can tell you that, the initial engagement matters. The initial engagement helps you go viral on Medium. And because of that, the type of followers you have matters.

The more niche the followers, the more relevancy you have.

And the more niche the followers, the better relationship you can build with your audience. Why? Because you can only create stories that are relevant to your audience. And because of that, it becomes easier to solve their pain and problems. So they trust you. And as a result, the relationship you have with your audience automatically becomes strong.

The loop.

  • Show your personality
  • Be realistic and authentic
  • Engage with them in conversations.
  • Write stories that solve their pain and problems
  • Write stories that help them achieve an outcome
  • Reply to emails that you get from your followers
  • Reply to comments that you get from your followers

This is how you build a healthy strong relationship with your audience. This is how I gained my 1,000 followers, and this is how you can get yours.
